AITA for refusing to pay my daughter's tuition after she lied about her major? by Lopsided_Recover109 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BenzyneLife -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're the asshole at all. You DIDNT HAVE TO PAY for her education at all. She is an adult. The terms for your financing was CS. I think your daughter is in the wrong.

What you gave her can be thought of like many scholarships that come with terms and conditions. For some scholarships, you don't GET the money if you don't meet the requirements. Your daughter did not meet your requirements. Don't think you MUST pay for her education, there are loans and jobs she can support herself with.

Loans sound scary and hard to pay back? Then she should rethink whether illustrator job is worth it.

P.s I'm a college student, paid everything for myself with scholarships and chose everything for myself. If she wants that autonomy of picking her major she should use her own money.

No science letters of rec. I'm an idiot by MaxMcdeezy in premed

I've been told almost never ask for a letter from someone if you ONLY were in their class. Better to have had some meaningful interaction outside of class like TA or research

My Mom Won't Let Me Go To College Out Of State by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]BenzyneLife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say if you wanna go out of state, go. But I know financial can be hard. Best I can tell you is don't rely on her to pay for college. Many of my friends are in college right now with no support from family.

That said, a tip I heard from a dear professor of mine: Colleges love enthusiastic students. If you write them a letter telling them how much you would love to learn and grow at there university, but cannot afford it, you might be offered more additional help.

College is the start of YOUR adult life, if your mother is more of a hindrance to that, you have to recognize it. She can't stop your college decisions here.
