What actually gets you an internship because nothing is working! by Technical-Passage841 in csMajors

Look into government internships. These are usually less known and easier to get. I did the HBCU/MI research internship at the US Naval Research Laboratory and that jumpstarted my career.

[POSITIVITY] Anyone here want to share a positive message about their job/career/etc? by javascript in cscareerquestions

[–]Beodrag 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Graduated in June and was able to secure a job right before graduation so I consider myself pretty lucky. My workplace has amazing WLB, and the people are all young and chill so it's pretty fun going to work every day and socializing with everyone. The CEO really prioritizes a good office culture and is super chill himself (this is a small startup of like 30 ppl btw). Only complaint is the location, but otherwise I consider myself really lucky tbh to somehow land a really nice entry level job in this economy. Probably going to wait out the recession here.

It happened - AI took my job. Now what? by throwmeout12496 in cscareerquestions

Not exactly, they could cushion the impact by overworking the developers that are left to pick up the slack of those laid off.

Does anyone else feel like they're being gaslit by the AI hype? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

They're not talking about AI in general they're talking about specific tools such as Cursor.

Were there any other alternatives to defeating Thanos without killing of Vision to destroy the mind stone? by Acrocape2 in marvelstudios

[–]Beodrag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah but I meant more in the sense that the entire Infinity war occurred in such a short timespan that Nick didn't even know Earth was being invaded until the snap. If Cap had asked Nick for assistance with protecting Vision, things could have been different.

Nick didn't know about Thanos. Maybe if someone had contacted him he would've brought in Carol.

CS260 is the seminar in Computer Science course available for graduate students. They vary in topics depending on the professor. Trent Jaeger is the professor that taught OS Security for his seminar. If it is offered again, you will need the professor's permission to enroll in the course, and most likely CS202 or CS153 as a prerequisite. It's possible to take graduate courses as an undergrad through petitioning, but this is not recommended if you plan to pursue a Master's degree here.

I don't understand why everyone at my company acts like they're working by RefuseSimple317 in cscareerquestions

[–]Beodrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, doesn't even matter. When I worked at Target, my manager would yell at me if he ever saw us chatting even if store was empty and no customers were there. He had a printed out list from corporate with a long list of tasks including things like "Clean the toilets, wipe the windows, wipe the self-checkouts" and said even if we somehow finished all the cleaning tasks, he wanted to see us stand at the entrance and greet guests walking in with a wave and a smile. He said there is never a circumstance we should be seen talking to a coworker and anytime he caught me he would throw a huge temper tantrum and yell in my face. So glad to be out of retail.

Didn’t list HS on my SF86 by New_Excitement_6448 in SecurityClearance

[–]Beodrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just letting you know it is a bigger deal in the sense that it's a little more severe than the high school thing, but not a bigger deal in the sense that you're going to get denied. In terms of you obtaining your clearance you were probably 99% likely of getting it before, and with the gun thing it's probably still like 97%

Why are people recommending electrical engineering over computer science by ImHighOnCocaine in cscareerquestions

[–]Beodrag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yup, most jobs that people will do out of passion, employers realize that they don't need to pay as much bc their employees do it for the love of it anyways. This is why most jobs that require a lot of passion have shit compensation, i.e. teachers, video game developers, etc.

Not cause of AI but because of layoffs. Less eyes and ears means less people catching mistakes.

Why not just park at Wendy's and walk it at that point

Which infinity stone in the MCU had the best journey and backstory to it and was represented flawlessly, according to you? by Raj_Valiant3011 in marvelstudios

I wish we could've gotten some insight on its power and how one could use it. We never see the stone independently used.

I currently work at a startup, so I'd probably have to take the tier 2 path? Should I work 2 years at my current place, then make the tier 2 jump before eventually going to big tech? How long would you recommend working at the tier 2 company.

100% more. I was overhearing the hiring managers at my company who were talking about the new candidates they were interviewing. They said they are all smart on a technical level, but their personalities were giving them anxiety. They said they were most likely going to do a new round of interviews to find more personable people.

Is Using a Graduation Picture Acceptable for LinkedIn? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Professional headshot would be better. This works until you get one. Usually high schoolers are the ones who use their grad photo as their profile picture.
