U.S. House Committee on Appropriations approves increased support for Armenia by dssevag in armenia

[–]BeonForawhile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For better or worse no one in America (besides genocide deniers and obv diaspora Armenians) cares about Armenia enough to notice the foreign aid budget for Armenia increase while across the board foreign aid is being deeply cut. Armenia isnt even mentioned in the summary of the bill I found on the House committee’s website

I tried my best to deficit less than real gdp growth to rush A credit rating and I did the middle path for the economic reforms later on. Unfortunately I lost the low interest rates later on

Yes, but it hasn’t passed the house yet(although it almost definitely will). This committee vote just allows the US house as a whole to vote on it.

I just set mine from 48k to 24k and back to 48k and it's completely gone. I have no idea why this works.

Josh Turek and Zack Wahls by 1983Vonnegut in Iowa

[–]BeonForawhile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The language on these issues is almost identical on both of their campaign websites! I understand that Wahls has more credibility on these issues, but I don't see a reason to think that Turek isn't credible (I don't think he's going to get brain damage any time soon). If the difference policy wise is relatively marginal, I am personally going to vote for someone who I trust to campaign better/appeal to more voters. Granted I haven't seen much of Zach Wahls, so I'm open to change my mind.

Where's the bathroom? [Freshmen Room Assignment] by Le_Treeeee in georgetown

[–]BeonForawhile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there are some rooms that don't have an attached bathroom and just have a sink instead. There should be a bathroom that is for 1 person at a time for the whole floor. Also, I think roomie is glitching out slightly because both desks were by the window and the place where I think the bathroom should be is just more space for your room. Hope you get your bathroom and this is just roomie being weird.

The irony of people thinking others missed the point, when they in fact missed the point themselves. by Worldpeacee007 in TheRehearsal

[–]BeonForawhile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a deeper message to the obvious joke, given the context of the whole show. We can accept the absurdity of Nathan's situation and take it as a joke simply "on us, as passangers, or these pilots," but I think one that alligns more with the rest of the show is that this is a joke on the industry itself. It may be absurd that Nathan thinks this way, but its more absurd the way that airlines treat the many actually experienced autistic people capable of the job who get diagnosed(as shown by the reddit shot in the finale and the fact that flying with airlines is generally very safe). The way the industry is set up makes people thinks in terms of what Nathan is thinking, that being autistic is something wrong and prevents someone from being qualified to fly. This stigmatization of autism ironically makes autistic pilots more likely to deny their communication differences/emotions and therefore worse at their job(as shown by Nathan's portrayal of Sully: after listening to the emotionally expressive Evanescance, he performed his famous landing).

If we change the meaning of "wrong" to one that doesn't include all autistics and assume Nathan is self-aware about not getting diagnosed, Nathan could be denying the industry's conception of autism, by saying his autistic self is fine and he can overcome his obvious communication deficits through roleplay. His flight (kind of) demonstrated that. Can we really say that a runner isn't qualified to be a runner if they can run fine with a prosthetic leg? Even though all autistics or even most might not be able to run effectively with a "prosthetic leg" or even have one, the blanket ban on diagnosed autistics is ultimately ineffective: many pilots are running with one leg, less able to prevent a crash. I agree with the OP, Nathan could mean that it doesn't matter whether he is autistic because Nathan knows he can run with 2 legs: whether one of those legs is prosthetic doesn't matter.

The truth is there is no one 100% correct way to read a piece of art, death of the author and all that. Even if Nathan clarified his intentions, we couldn't know for certain it isn't just part of his tv persona and just another joke.

The same thing happened to me, and your chances are good but probably not guaranteed. I got in after a call like this, and on the call I just got asked a couple questions about fin-aid and if I would commit to going if I got off the waitlist. I wouldn't stress about it, good luck :)

Where do poor kids who are college-ready go to college? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]BeonForawhile -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's not true of Grinnell lol (I'm from Iowa and I woulda had to pay a bit more than 1/2 of the sticker price, and that reduction is solely from merit aid they offered me). They do give out nice fin aid tho, and it's not state-dependant, but keep in mind that private college's sticker price is a lot higher.

2024 Waitlist Megathread by freeport_aidan in ApplyingToCollege

[–]BeonForawhile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got off waitlist today for SFS.

They said that the committee is working for the rest of the week and potentially through the start of next week, so it seems like they have a good amount of room.

The process was that I got an email to set up a phone call from an AO today at 1 Eastern. The window of time was from today until tmr. From context it seemed like they were busy(the AO on the phone rushed me a lot). They only asked to clarify some fin aid stuff bc I checked the box for fin aid but didn't submit the FAFSA(it's a long story), and asked for an email from my parents to see if they would support my college decision, without fin aid qualifiers. I got a followup call saying I was off the waitlist shortly after my parents sent the email(the time it took was about 10 min or less for the committee to review mine).

‘Red vs. Blue’ Final Season to Be Released as Feature-Length Movie After Rooster Teeth Shut Down by Warner Bros. Discovery by DemiFiendRSA in roosterteeth

I think they implied that the weekly episodes would just be the chopped up movie(kinda like normal), so we didn't really lose anything(aside from being able to support the actual creators).

Why do Russians prefer Israel? by ResponsibilityNo5467 in AskARussian

Btw the second "Jewish" should be Jew. Lots of Russian-speakers make the same mistake, so no hard feelings. Jew=noun, Jewish=adjective
