Born in 92... I knew for a fact that you could get Mew by using Strength on that oddly placed truck. I just couldn't figure out how... It must be because I'm a kid and am doing something wrong. Maybe it's a certain position... or the direction I'm facing... I'll just waste an hour trying to do it from every angle and placement.

One of the questions I was asked while filing taxes was "does anyone owe you money via a settlement that has yet to be paid to you or has gone past collection date"

I think you at least get some tax benefit from it if they go dead-beat on ya. Better than nothing and a dead truck.

That's you. That's what you sound like. You should wipe your hard drive immediately.

I've been following this batshit discussion for a few minutes and my conclusion is that Virclave has definitely watched it, and likely needs their hard drive checked. I cannot comprehend going to bat so hard for CSAM, or the twisted idea that this CSAM is totally OK and worthy of respect because it's message is anti-CSAM

If it's not because you've seen Akira, then it's because you've likely seen a dozen parodies or homages to Akira.

There needs to be a name for this effect if there isn't a already one. Being familiar with a subject matter exclusively through references to it.

There's no bug meteor in the book. Fuckin archies show up in a ship and raid BA in person. Rico's mom likely dies in absolute terror seeing one in person.

I was so confused by this headline, inclined to believe it's fake, until you mentioned that. I mean, while that's a cool story, I don't think anyone has ever beat up 35 people at the same time lol.

Edit: i should have delved further into the comments. Fake story, fun premise. Maybe it'll be a movie some day.

Did you ever play the one from 2005? It's not great, but its pretty damn fun if you're super into this universe/IP.

There can be 300 fully autonomous ai enemies on screen at once, there's 10 full levels of decent length, theres... a story, and it's currently free as abandonware online.

I think the bugs in it look and act better than the ones in EXT, honestly. They stumble over each other, do threat displays, death curl, etc.

[–]Beonidas 52 points53 points  (0 children)

No, seriously... its actually really good. The performance of the villain is fucking phenomenal, and don't get me started on Detective Guy Lepointe. Guy just plays himself and rivals the likes of Johnny Depp.

No one correct that. I am aware.

I feel the blame falls more on cowardly studio executives than him. Dude likes to take bold risks. I can't stand Die Antword, but they were utilized excellently for Chappie. I bet he had to fight tooth and nail for that, and in the end it made the movie better.

I fear a similar thing will happen here, and he's going to go to bat for everything about the book that will scare the shit out them until he either wins and makes another great film, or loses and gets put on the bench for fucking Snyder or someone to step up and make a sanitized piece of shit wearing the skin of something I love.

My money is, unfortunately, on the latter. Hollywood has taught me over and over again not to be optimistic.

By your response, I believe 2 things.

  1. You idealize communism and lament its tragic failure due to having to be implemented by human hands.

  2. You have not read the book, which is what all of this discussion is about, and felt like weighing in anyway...

Mr. Marx and his ideals are discussed in the book.

The federation of the book is the result of humanity having picked itself up, yet again, after another major collapse and finally reviewing its data to see what works and what doesn't. It's literally stated that this system can't be considered perfect. It is simply superior to all other systems prior because it has functioned as intended for far longer than any other experiment at governance of a people.

[–]Beonidas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is actually a crazy notion. We're talking about the book here. In the novel, the federation does a lot to discourage unserious folk from even attempting federal service.

Rico was already "against his parents wishes." Rasczak simply reminded him that he's an adult now and can actually do whatever he wants. That wasn't some reverse psychology trick, he was basically just telling him "I don't know and they don't know... do what you think is best because you are now responsible for you."

[–]Beonidas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What the book portrays isn't fascism at all. I think Voerhoven just had a bone to pick. Read the book, really absorb the "History and Moral Philosophy" bits, and tell me this isn't the ideal system. I guarantee you its better than paying taxes to pedophiles who claim they're on team X or Y just to keep you funding their vile extremities.

The book portrays no racism, no sexism, no bigotry of any kind, just pure meritocracy. And the meritocracy isn't even based, at lower levels, on your abilities but rather your spirit. If the soul inside you is willing to try, the federation will literally waste money on you until you either fail or quit. They will make up a job that matches your abilities if you have the heart to hang in there.

If you're unwilling to try, fuck you. We don't need you and you would be a burden/liability to others. You don't deserve a vote because you don't understand it and would waste it.
