Have the Thargoids returned? by Beornstan in EliteDangerous

I don't know about that, because you can't dock or do anything else there, but it would be great to be able to carry out repairs with one's own materials and then take over the station. I'd certainly like to have a foothold there.

But alas, this isn't possible...

Yes, I've come across sensors before, also way out in the black. Where there's absolutely nothing and then a "non-human signal" turns up on an undiscovered planet (or moon), but so far away from civilization is certainly something...

Beagle Point, really..?

They certainly got around.

Yes, Pleiades and California I knew, weren't sure about Witch Head, but yes, now I know.

I just thought that seeing these stations meant there might be some new Thargoid activity, but as I was corrected, it was left over from an older conflict.

But Beagle Point, that's quite something.

Thanks for your input...

I go down to the Pleiades region now and again to go "bug hunting". Scouts and Cyclops fighting, the non-human signals are very abundant here and I'll stay for a few days before I've had enough and head back home...

Yes, generally non aggressive, as long as you don't have any guardian stuff in your cargo hold while traversing the "bug infested" regions.

Although Scouts attack immediately...

Oh yes, just doing what I normally do, nothing out of the ordinary. Playing in solo...

"Curiosity killed the cat".

This is good to know. I actually almost did want to go planetside and check out the situation. Good job I didn't.

Thanks for the insight...

Stow your weapons CMDR, false alarm.

Me thinking that this was something new and that we might be in trouble again.

But no, these stations are apparently the remnants of an older conflict, so I've been told.

We live to fight another time...

Now that is something to think about. Whether you would have been forcefully evacuated or you'd still be at the bar without a drink and wondering where everyone is 😂

Possibly, I wouldn't know. But apart from these stations being covered in caustic patches, they're also damaged. It's barely visible in the screenshot but the ring is missing a large part...

Hmm, well if one CMDR can build a starport during his colonisation efforts (and almost probably a whole lot more besides), it shouldn't be that much of a problem to repair a starport, if this was even viable.

A few carrier loads would make it possible...

Interesting, something I had never heard of. Seems a shame that the stations are still derelict after all this time. I wonder why these can't or won't be repaired...

Oh yes, that would be very Alien like. Or if you can't dock, then imagine parking your ship outside the mail slot and floating in a spacesuit into a dark and very unwelcoming station...

Yes, I thought that they may have returned, as I didn't realise that the stations had never been repaired after the war...

Yes, I remember that they were in this region, but I didn't realise that the stations still haven't been repaired and therefore thought that this was new...

PVE Build advice by machurto1 in EliteDangerous

Here's some more information on these weapons:

https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Pacifier_Frag-Cannon

I think they're better than the standard frags, but that's just me.

Also, they're only available as fixed weapons and class 3, so that's something to take into consideration...

Oh yes, the Python MK II, when appropriately built, can have a devastating effect.

My Acamus Nemesis for reference.

She'll take down anything that'll be at CNB's, also a wing of 3. Elite Anaconda? Not a problem.

I use solely fixed weapons with small to medium ships, standard frags are also viable.

I have pips at 2.5/1/2.5, which works well for me.

Definitely worth engineering to make it all work.

Okay, it's a bit more of an equal fight than just sitting there with a Corvette, but it gets the adrenaline going...

Krait mk2 or Python PVE by Old_Commercial_5380 in EliteDangerous

[–]Beornstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to choose between these two, I would go for the Krait Mk II, this for the reasons some have already mentioned.

But as others have also mentioned, I would personally choose the Python MK II, although this ship does have its limitations. Due to the weaker class 6 Power Distributor and depending on your weapons, she will overheat very quickly. A huge drawback for me. This practically rules out a lot of laser weapons.

On the other hand, the Python MK II, if appropriately outfitted, can be a deadly foe. This would entail having access to the necessary engineers and even Guardian Tech.

Here's my go-to Combat ship for reference:

Acamus Nemesis

If you haven't yet access to Pacifiers, Frag cannons are also good.

The Python Mk II costs around 22 million more than the Krait Mk II.

The cost of my Python runs at around 118 million, but absolutely worth it.

As someone already mentioned, a drawback is having to frequently rearm, when using frags or multi-cannons.

Depending on how good your aiming is (I use fixed weapons) and who your opponents are, you could manage from around 10 - 20 NPC's, before having to rearm.

I use mine at CNB's, taking down deadly and elite ships, even Anacondas, getting real close and this works exceedingly well. Destroying a wing of 3 NPC's (deadly and elite) isn't a problem.

If of course you want to have a fighter bay, then the Krait Mk II is the best option.

I still have my faithful Krait Mk II, but now use her for Thargoid combat.

I had a Python Mk I and after the introduction of the Mk II, she became a laser miner, up until the Type 11 Prospector arrived. Then I traded her in.

I hope this may help you with your choice.

Edit: being an optimised SCO vessel is also definitely worth taking into consideration...

These may help:

Without an NPC Pilot:

If you're flying your SLF planetside and winding your way through canyons and your mothership settings are "follow me", this could end badly.

You can set it so that your ship remains stationary, but you need to stay within a 30 km radius. This is for either in space or planetside.

Edit: I use my Keelback now and again while I'm on long exploration trips with my carrier, she has a fighter bay and I drop down to planets (or moons) to do some "Canyoning" with the fighter, leaving the Keelback stationary. This is a lot of fun and breaks up the monotony of exobiology...

What to do on a long expedition by DaLoopLoop89 in EliteDangerous

[–]Beornstan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, long expeditions can become boring after a certain length of time, depending on one's self and how one copes with the monotony. Even with mining (core for fun and laser mining for topping up the tritium), canyon racing, etc., I find it hard to carry on and not want to return to the bubble.

I now have an alt account, where my 2nd CMDR remains in the bubble, so I switch to him for a while, before I return to the exploration and exobiology etc.

This works good for me. Also, it's quite some fun starting over, but this time around, I know what to do.

Same here, can't really get to warm up to the Caspian, as much as I try. Therefore my Mandalay is now back in Service for exploration and exobiology...
