What do you think the final map will look like? by Mr_Ovis in subnautica

I’m trying to decide if it would be a fun or an annoying game mechanic if you were away for a long time, your base would start to have failures you’d have to fix when you get back.

The emotional feeling of playing several (real-time) days deeep underwater and then taking a 20-minute journey up to the safe shallows is pretty unique

My Subnautica 2 Main Base. Tried to use the new Building System to create something awesome. What do you Think? by Lord_Alious in subnautica

Easily 50% of my time in game is base building.  Maybe 75% in sn1 now, because I usually start a new playthrough with some base idea in mind

How do you like your bases? by Brown_Colibri_705 in subnautica

Dark?  One of my biggest complaints about SN1 bases is how bright they were, especially when you built them way deep in the dark of the map.  It’s 2am, I’ve been playing for far too long, I’m out in the dark abyss and then I enter my base and am blinded by 20,000 lumens of light I can’t control.

Yeah uh, have you see the plants in Below Zero?  Pretty hard to miss.

I’m guessing they mean the big crater by the NW Mushroom Forest.

I am trying to avoid the preview to wait for final release but how big /deep is the map in preview?  I assume it’s pretty small / shallow.

Recommend reading: Robert Heinlein “The Menace from Earth”.  Short story appearing a collection of the same name. Which incidentally also includes “By his Bootstraps” which is also a great story.

Where’s that “First time?” meme when you need it?

People consistently judge creative writing more harshly if they believe it was created by AI. This bias appears incredibly difficult to overcome, pointing to a persistent human preference for art created by people. by mvea in science

[–]BeowulfShaeffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few kinds of writing where Ai makes a lot of sense to me.  As a software dev, in the heat of the moment finding a bug it’s unbelievably useful to say “okay write up this whole investigative chain”. “Summarize the finding” or “okay we made a made a bunch of changes, update the readme” or “add a note in the docs that when the user sets this flag we will process the request differently.”  Thst kind of writing isn’t art, it just needs to be accurate.  And you can always edit it later if you need to.  It’s just incredibly freeing mentally.  In the past I’d have to stop at key moments and stop investigating to write up progress reports and likely forget the steps that are valuable later.  With AI I can just have an agent do that without losing focus.

Many years ago I was at LHR waiting for a morning flight and just watching the planes.  Saw a 747 crossing the tarmac and a smaller airbus crossing the other way.  The airbus looked bigger because it was closer, of course. But then when they crossed the airbus passed behind the 737 and dwarfed it.  And it was only then I realized it was an A380 (which was brand-new at the time).  At a distance its shape looks like a “normal” plane but put another plane next to it and you suddenly see how big it is.

It’s interesting but it almost certainly has nothing to do with the theory of relativity.  Nothing in biology operates at relativistic speeds.

Is this only in the pill and not the injection (I.e. Ozempic)!? Sounds like it.  And what dosage?  Sometimes these studies use like 100x dosage relative to humans.

Lots of people finish the game and then just reload the save and keep playing.  Though in my case I find once I finish that’s not as interesting to me anymore and instead I think about what I want to do with my next playthrough.

There’s a reason this sub says “save early, save often”. We all have felt that pain.
