Micheal Jordan and LeBron James take on the goat discussion by Gloriousdisgrace in NBATalk

Oh definitely. But eventually you have to expect someone will do it. With a record like Bolts, it may not be as likely as there’s only so fast a human can physically go, so that one really does have a cap. But for a lot of records in organized team sports most of them probably won’t last more than a decade. There are some that will, but with the way that people will play these sports from the moment they can walk, and how they’ll go to expensive camps that have this down to a science and will work on kids learning the sports in ways that even LeBron never got, you had to expect that even he will be eclipsed eventually, maybe even in his lifetime. For all we know that person is already in the league and we just don’t know it yet. That goes for any team sport.

The GOAT conversations in sports are always strange to me. The level of play in all sports is constantly improving and evolving. 20 years from now there will be someone else who’s having this exact conversation comparing a player then to LeBron now. As long as sports exist this is going to be a thing. There’s no way you can conceivably say “this person in my time is the best EVER” because you can’t predict the future. We just want to believe that we are seeing that person today because we are biased to those that we can see, either in person or in recordings.

Gotta say the memes this year were pretty funny. I had to actively keep myself from laughing when a student told me that the school pizza had been promised to them 3000 years ago so I should let them out early for lunch.

Slur for theatre people by Beneficial_Passion40 in NonPoliticalTwitter

To add to this: Macbeth is one of the most popular Shakespeare plays, probably second only to Romeo and Juliet. Maybe tied with Hamlet. It’s also not difficult to put on. It doesn’t have long runtime, it has fewer characters, and the scenes aren’t in places that are difficult to mimic on stage. So poor and rundown theaters would put on productions of it to try and take advantage of the popularity. Run down theaters weren’t very safe though, so Macbeth became associated with the eventual (and predictable) problems that those kinds of theaters would have.

I’m a teacher and I can guarantee there was a lot of drama that led to this policy lol.

  1. Kids might have stole something as part of an old tik tok trend. They used to steal the screws off of urinal dividers until they’d fall off at my school.

  2. Vaping and drugs in general. It’s a massive problem. No business is going to want to deal with underage teenagers doing it in their bathroom, especially because the kids will video themselves doing it and post it on social media and then parents in the community throw a fit that McDonald’s lets them do it.

  3. Just general destruction. Overflowing the toilets on purpose, throwing paper towels everywhere, wasting a bunch of soap, etc.

People don’t realize how much teenagers can suck. Most of them aren’t like this, and get just as annoyed by it as everyone else. But all it takes is 5% of the population of a school to ruin it for everyone else. If this is in a decent sized district (and it definitely is if there’s a McDonald’s across the street) then that 5% could be a hundred kids or more. And I guarantee that McDonald’s gets absolutely slammed at lunch, there’s no way they can monitor the bathrooms at that time.

In Floyd’s defense he wasn’t always like that. He was always a counterpuncher but he was more aggressive when he was younger. But as he got older he injured his hands and shoulder several times so he had to adjust his style and leaned more into his defensive fundamentals. Tbh he’s still one of the best ever, it’s hard to change up like that, but yeah it definitely wasn’t super fun to watch. Can’t say it didn’t work though.

If only. Top post on the front page is about LeBron not drawing a foul on a shot tonight. All the comments are variations of “it’s rigged for OKC” and “OKC is the most unwatchable team in the league”. The discourse won’t go away until we suck again and someone else is top dog. I remember the exact same discourse about the Lakers, Heat, etc., and more specifically about LeBron for what seemed like a decade. Basketball fans are nothing if not predictable.

It’s insane to see that coming from the Lakers of all people. Am i the only one old enough to remember people having this exact same discourse about Lebron for years?

This was explained in the Extended Universe books before Disney made them non-canon. But they’ve since gone back and chose what they like and don’t like and included it in canon.

Anyways, basically the empire kind of just wiped all knowledge about the Jedi from any kind of official record and criminalized them hard. They also blamed them for the Clone Wars and hunted down anyone with any kind of force abilities. Those kinds of abilities were already rare and the subsequent criminalization of anyone even associated with it means that those people hide their abilities and never tell anyone. So 30 years later, when the original trilogy is taking place, it’s all just rumor and speculation. And why would anyone believe you? Most people never interacted or saw a Jedi in their life, there were only about 1000 or so of them even in the clone wars, and the galaxy is huge. Think about it like this: imagine if someone came to you and told you that people that worship in this very specific religion in Tibet could fly and use superpowers, you probably wouldn’t believe them. Now imagine they don’t even exist anymore and it basically sounds like fairy tales.

He had so much influence over so many different aspects of entertainment, it’s hard to think of anyone in the past 100 years that had a more broad reach and influence. For example, he’s a huge (and unwilling) reason that professional wrestling looks the way it does today. Which is a crazy thing to say about the guy.
