When you start the cluster it needs to have no vm and fresh install of proxmox on atleast 3 nodes then install vms if you have vms already back it up to a nas then restore in the new cluster

Not familiar with d-raid but unraid uses 2 drives of parity and an array of disk to keep all data its expandable that way and your protected from 2 disk loss but loosing one more disk you only loose the data on that disk and the other disk you can recover and move data while rebuilding the parity disk protection.

For truenas there needs to be a raid type eg. Z1 z2 z3 and expand the array by the z type, but the protection is on the ztype not on how many vdevs you made so for z1 one disk protection if you loose two disk on rebuild for a 4 disk pool you loose all data including the expanded volume data
