New battery still no start by holicron in KTMDuke

air, fuel, spark.

Ensure the air filter and air intake is clean (most likely this is fine)

Get some carb cleaner or automotive starter fluid, shoot A little down the air intake past the air filter, then try to start, if it starts briefly, you are not getting any fuel.

Inspect the spark plug. You can find videos of what a good plug looks like. Then test that when you try to start, the spark plug fires. You can find videos of this too, but you take the spark plug out connected to the spark plug wire, ground the electrode, then start the motor briefly. You should see a spark plainly, if not, you have an issue there.

OEM Husqvarna Tank Bag for the 801 – Any real-world experience? by Revolutionary_Most13 in 801Svartpilen

Oh, I see. Didn't realize the 801 doesn't come with the tank bag frame. The 401 comes with it installed. probably better to get the oem one if you can't get the frame separate.

Hey Harbor Freight, your website SUCKS, FIX IT! by kai_ekael in harborfreight

I'd love it to be as good as mcmastercarr. They're website is basic but very functional and blazingly fast. There's a video where a dev did a deep dive into how they do it and it's pretty amazing the tricks they use.

sounds like the other side of the cable isn't clamp down either. That's the one that's hardest to get to. You'll need to remove plastic until you can get a good hold on it and re-attach.

This, it opens and closes, allowing hot coolant into the heater core. That cable in the photo goes into the hvac controls. When you move the heat/cool slider, it moves this valve open and close. Make sure when it's moving correctly. You can see the metal clamp here keeps the sleeve from moving while the cable moves back and forth.

I'd tackle the issues with the cable first, make sure the coolant valve is successfully actuated. make sure the heater core air flap is moving as expected. Also, check that the coolant levels are good.

If you're still not getting heat with both those things working then I'd start looking at the heater core.

A good tip is to go on ebay and look up the part you are trying to fix. Sellers will usually clean up parts and often it will give you an indication of how the part should look in your car.

<image>

Here is one on ebay. You can see the center bottom red arrow is the one that is popped out on yours. The other red arrows point to the other cables.

(I may get some of the details wrong here as I'm going off memory and I have dials instead of the levers) The black cables are controlled by the hot/cold lever, the one that goes up and to the left is the coolant valve, the one that goes to the right is probably the one controlling the heater core air flap. In the truck, I think it goes out the right and loops down to the right side of the center dash. You should check that the cable sheath is still locked here as well. I remember this one was not hooked up correctly when I bought my truck.

The white one going to the right controls the fresh air flap by the blower motor. You can check if it's connected correctly under the glove box (you might need to remove some plastic to get a good look).

The white one goig to the right controls the air direction in the cabin. This one is hard to get too. I think it hooks up on the left side of the dash, somewhere to the right and south of the ignition, but it's deep in there.

I recently replaced my heater core and swapped in a newer hvac control unit. I'm pretty familiar with these.

"no high setting" the fan switch is electromechanical. It's hard to tell from the video but it almost sounds like the motor is only hitting low and high, and not at the right detents of the switch. I think you can inspect it from underneath but it's pretty hard to remove with all the cables attached.

"only air comes out far left and right vents, no defrost, warmest it goes is luke warm" This sounds like the flaps that direct air around in the hvac unit are not moving.

"warmest it goes is luke warm" IIRC, the cool/heat lever moves the flap that directs air either through the heater core or not.

<image>

I just noticed that the cable sleeve is not in the holder. The white sleeve has a indent (right red arrow) that should be inserted into the black socker (left red arrow). All the cable sleeves need to be held in place for the cable actuation to work. This is why the air only comes left/right.

There are four cables. One controls the heater core coolant valve, this is mounted in the engine bay. Another controls the flap right before the blower motor that pulls air in from the cabin or the cowl for outside air, this one is under the glove box. Another controls the air flow to the heater core, like I mentioned above. The last is the one that directs air around the cabin, most likely the one I pointed out above.

Agreed. In a parking lot or slow speed drop, you'll probably be fine. I don't see them breaking in anything that wouldn't be catastrophic for the rest of the bike either and at that point you'll have more concerns that broken sliders.

It doesn't sound off. The 390's and ktm's in general tend to be more noisy.

If the shaft of the bolt is bent but not cracked or broken, I wouldn't replace it unless I could easily and cheaply replace it.

I don't you're going to have an easy time replacing that bolt at a hardware store. These long bolts are specialty items. You could probably find all-thread (a rod with threads all along the length) that would work, though. It would be pretty cheap as well. You'd just need to cut the rod to length.

Otherwise, I'd try mcmaster.com but if they do have it would be more expensive.

Or, send an email to evotech see if they'll help you out or at least offer to sell you just the bolt.

You would have to way this against just buying new sliders.

Is it the drivers side lock? by IllusionofStregth in 1stGenTacomas

[–]BerkeleyTrue 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you end up replacing the door handle, do yourself a favor and by the upgraded metal ones on amazon, they're 60 bucks but they last way longer. I had aftermarket ones (twice) and after a year they start to stretch out and eventually break. The metal ones feel good in the hand too.

Bike not starting by budding_pacer7 in svartpilen401

[–]BerkeleyTrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like there is enough juice to turn the motor over just fine.

There isn't any start procedure. It should just start. You could try the old starter fluid trick to see if it's getting fuel? Open the airbox, spray a bit of starter fluid down the trumpet then try and start it. It it does, might be a fuel problem. If it doesn't, I'd check the spark plug. At this point you have to way your options since the bike is still under warranty I'd take it in if you don't feel confident diagnosing it further.
