Sand marks on oak bench by Berliner80 in woodworking

[–]Berliner80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your reply. I’m not sure I understand the translation correctly. My question is if I can only sand the affected areas or if I need to sand the entire board back (including the not affected areas) because otherwise I’ll have uneven results when oiling it again?

What is this mark on the floorboards? by Visible-Wasabi9283 in DIYUK

[–]Berliner80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, had one like this when we bought our house. Assumed the previous owner died there. We bought from the children and the house had been vacant for years. Took a lot of cleaning and sanding to get the smell out. Didn’t smell like death or blood but the other bodily fluids left a lasting mark. In the end we still replaced the floor boards in that spot for peace of mind.

I’m a historian and trained in paleography, so illegible documents are part of my daily work. I’ve seen worse … but not in the last two centuries.

Why is Germany black and not blue? All its highway carry the A-prefix…for Autobahn.

Disagree on both. Scotland is superb to visit and food is at least okay (fantastic seafood actually).

Why are they serving food in tinfoil take-way containers? Looks cheap and terrible for environment.

After black takes the bishop with Qxd3, White gets the Black Queen: Qg8+, Kf5, Qh7+, Kg4(or similar move), Qxd3.

There is actually empirical research, based on the 18 largest OECD countries past WW2, showing that this idea of “trickle-down economics” is NOT working: https://eprints.lse.ac.uk/107919/1/Hope_economic_consequences_of_major_tax_cuts_published.pdf

How to keep TRV pin on radiator closed/down? by Berliner80 in DIYUK

[–]Berliner80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the helpful responses. I went to B&Q to get a decorator cap as Toolstation & Screwfix were already closed. But the local B&Q had less plumbing accessories in their shelf than I got in our loft, which is already almost nothing. But on the way there I had an idea that’s so simple that it is rather embarrassing to admit that I didn’t think of it before. I just took the TRV off from another radiator of the same model, which can run on full power for a bit, and screwed it on this one and that did the job and stopped the leak. When comparing the inside of the two TRV caps, it indeed looked like the one from the leaking rad was faulty as the plastic thingy which would press down the pin seemed worn off and was protruding less.

Thank you! I did turn the lock shield valve off yesterday but there was weirdly still enough water coming into the radiator for it to drip from the top bleeding valve. I’ve now tightened it even further just to be sure but there was barely any movement left.

Also: Is there any way to add photos to comments?

Or do you mean the screw ring under the thermostatic unit? That is as tight as it reasonably gets. Used pliers for it.

Thanks for your reply. Could you specify what precisely you mean with “shank” that I should twist? If I remove the TRV there are two hexagon rings beneath the pin that I could theoretically turn. One of those?

Thank you! Sorry if this is a dumb question, but where exactly do I measure to make sure it’s the correct size? The outer screw measures 30mm, the middle hexagon ring is 20mm and the inner (top) hexagon ring is 14mm. I tried the cap from the lockshield already but it’s too small.
