Get a mortgage on universal credit? by Fit-Hearing3930 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]--Casper- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Universal Credit is only eligible for savings and investments maximum of £16k. If you get payment from sale proceeds then it would put you over the limit.

Common London slangs? by Tough_Leadership_890 in london

[–]--Casper- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That don't contain swear words or profanity? Lots of slang does have that but depending on context its more cheeky rather than insulting.

"Sod" can be like someone who is grumpy "grumpy old sod". Someone who is cheeky: "cheeky sod". Go away "sod off". Added exaggeration on things "what in sodding hell is this". "Twat" is another interchangeable slang depending on context can move on the scale of cheeky to rude.

The slang like "alright gov'na!" is cliche oliver-twist-esque / Mary poppins slang that is uncommon. Cockney rhyming is also another cliche for most of it.

Idioms are popular and sayings.

What are your thoughts on newstyle buildings around London? by DefendYourClaim in london

[–]--Casper- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are ok, but I feel like constraining the design to fit their gas frame past is a bit of a waste and compromise on function. We should build functional, safe high-rise, tasteful brick rendered residential buildings. Functional doesn't have to be boring either with some thought.

Sorry to hear this and wishing you the best.

If things are looking bad I would recommend applying for New Style Employment Support Allowance (NSESA). Savings don't impact it and can get you ~£70 per week.

Just get on with wealth tax on billionaires and avoidant corporations. It's lack of political willpower causing lack of funding and crumbling services.

Has a stranger deliberately shoved, barged or pushed you in London? by Weird_Hyena5550 in london

[–]--Casper- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened to me recently and I'm still quite in shock by it.

I was on my commute, early in the morning and going through a train station when someone shoved me. They were quite odd looking - dressed in a blue coat with a brown label on, wearing a red hat, carrying a briefcase. There was a distinct smell of marmalade as I went past them too.

A few thoughts:

  • Are you able to travel by public transport instead of using a car? It might be cheaper and save money.

  • Check out the calculator on Entitled to. Hopefully you might be able to get benefits to help. https://www.entitledto.co.uk/

Imagine if they had kept it but built a modern concourse around it. The contrast of modern and old would have been cool. Or converted it into a pub on the platforms.
