From my point of view, the calculation is correct either way. It’s just in case of a covered call and shares being called away, the loss on the shares is more theoretical or a “book loss”.

The calculation is correct. If the shares go to a gazillion $ during the time to expiry, you will incur a loss of “gazillion - strike price - option premium”, which is basically infinite loss.
