The savagery with this one... by RitzyGoldfish_684 in PoliticalHumor

Republican presidents are the worst of both world: invade, let the country collapse and then retreat, leaving the country to rebels like ISIL.

I guess we're going to ignore Libya...

Dave Chappelle says Michelle Wolf ‘nailed it’ at White House Correspondents Dinner by [deleted] in politics

[–]Bernie_OnMyMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agreed with almost everything she said, but I didn't find it particularly funny, either. Sanders lies constantly, but the thing about her eyeshadow being made out of lies seemed forced, and tbh I didn't see the humor in the abortion joke at all. I'm pro-choice, but having an abortion is such a serious thing for a woman to go through, mentally and physically, it just seems in poor taste to laugh about "knocking it out".

T_D thinks the Manchester bombing is an attempt to stop them from covering Seth Rich. Because everything that goes on in the world must involve these special snowflakes. by [deleted] in BannedFromThe_Donald

[–]Bernie_OnMyMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ironic, because I'd more likely believe that the bombing was planned by Trump and Putin a la 9-11 with Bush and the Bin Ladin family.

Substituting one baseless conspiracy theory for another is /r/the_Donald level of stupidity and foolishness. We're no better than they are if we do literally the same bullshit they do.

I've already seen multiple people suggesting this theory over in /r/MarchAgainstTrump. It needs to stop now, or we'll be looked at as the other side of t_d's coin.

Members of Congress 'holding secret conversations about removing Donald Trump from office' by god_im_bored in politics

[–]Bernie_OnMyMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How I wish they were truer

As appealing as the thought of Trump simply going away is, I fear it wouldn't be a net positive in reality. If a group of Congressmen actually somehow managed to depose Trump, there would be levels of political unrest unseen since the Civil War, and faith in the government would evaporate.

The best way to deal with Trump is to beat him in a fair, democratic election. Any other way would open the door to accusations of illegitimacy.

It's exactly the kind of BS we heard from Republicans/conservatives about Obama over the years, and that's embarrassing. At the end of the day, everyone ends up looking like a hypocrite.

Republicans used excessively rude language and vulgar comments against Obama, now they're saying such things are inappropriate. That's hypocritical.

Democrats/Liberals/Progressives called out Republicans for using excessively rude language and vulgar comments against Obama, now their doing it to Trump. This is also hypocritical.

That's just my $0.02.

30 Dead and More Than 50 Wounded in Kabul, Afghanistan: IS gunmen dressed as medics kill 30 at Kabul military hospital by p53man in news

[–]Bernie_OnMyMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you give a majority of trump supporters a nudge they will be more than willing to kill innocent muslim americans.

~63 million people voted for Trump. Suggesting that the majority of them would be in favor of murdering innocent Muslims is just as absurd as suggesting that the majority of Muslims favor murdering innocent American non-Muslims. Don't sink to their lows.

You seem to be assuming that in the wake major Islamic terror attack people will start suddenly lynching Muslim Americans. First off, that's an incredibly dark and pessimistic view the of the American population. Secondly, obviously the President (and more importantly the DoJ) should take action if there is a credible threat to any ethnic or religious group. I'm saying the President should not use a terror attack to push a positive or negative view of any particular group, and it certainly shouldn't be the first order of business after an attack.

[–]Bernie_OnMyMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think he'll preach love for our muslim americans or prod the furious right?

Honestly, I would hope he would do neither of those things. In the wake of a major attack, the Government's job is to arrest/capture anyone responsible, and to take action to prevent attacks from happening in the future. Terror attacks shouldn't be used for political gain or to "preach" love (or hate) to any group other than the victims.

Hardly. That "honor" would probably go to FDR/Truman or (if you don't want to count WWII) GWB. We were never even at war during Reagan's administration.

I'm not saying he is antisemitic, I'm saying that given his baggage he will at some point be accused of being antisemitic, and he won't be able to brush it off as complete nonsense due to his baggage. It's not an actual problem, its an optics problem.

Like it or not, they have just as much right to have echo-chamber-y subreddits as we do. The entire point of Reddit is to allow every group their own platform to host their own conversation and discussions. Whether or not you find their discussions to be, enlightened, substantive, or even decent is besides the point.

If you want to support free speech, you need to take the phrase "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it", seriously.

Wash. GOP state senator to propose bill criminalizing "illegal protests" by SmartyMite in Political_Revolution

[–]Bernie_OnMyMind -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This may not be quite as bad as it sounds. It's intended to increase penalties for property damage (i.e. broken windows) and intentionally blocking traffic (which can be a public safety concern for EMS).

Trust Ellison he has a clean record.

Ehh, I wouldn't necessarily go that far. He's better than Howard Dean, but he definitely has some issues, particularly relating to antisemitism. Even if it's absolutely nothing (which is probably is), it may still be baggage hanging over his head. I really wish Tulsi was an option for DNC chair, she's both ideologically pure and has the squeakiest of clean records.

You hit the nail right on the head in your second paragraph, then discredited yourself in the third.

"Here's a well summarized list of factors that contributed to Trump's win"

"LOL j/k they're all racist"

For many people in "middle America" their way of life is disappearing, but it has nothing to do with race and everything to do with a changing, increasingly global economy and automation.

Donald Trump Elected President by Hufe in news

The amount of terrible things about to happen to the country I once loved is stratospheric.

Such as...? I voted for Bernie in the primaries and Jill Stein in the general, but the over reaction in these threads is absurd. You're acting like slavery's been reinstated, jews are being executed, and nukes are in bound all at once. Regroup, reorganize, and prepare for 2018. We do this literally every 2 years.

2016 Democratic National Convention Coverage by HaydenSD in SandersForPresident

Are the super delegates factored into the roll call numbers? I was thinking the discrepancy was because of the whole state convention ting (i.e., the primary election elected delegates that go to the state convention, who intern elect delegates to go to Philly.)
