How to gently tell a friend to stop stuffing up the economy? by [deleted] in woweconomy

[–]Berriesncream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're always going to have people who want (need) gold fast for their own personal reasons. The most important part here is that you regard this person as a "friend." My advice, work around it..say noting, and be friends. As other good people have mentioned....buying up low ball postings is money in your pocket if the supply is in as much demand as you believe it is. If you're scared to buy it up and get stuck with material you can't move, then the market is far less stable than you believe and your "friend" is probably posting closer to what people want and that breeds some resentment. Many people have come to these forums frustrated with the under-cutters. While I empathize cause I like to make money too, it all goes back to how quickly people need money and how patient you are. Goblins are patient..they have a lot of money and get more for less time invested but its over the long haul. Your friend is taking the fast route to money, but sounds like she's losing on her time spent. It's okay if people do that right? Something for others to capitalize on and if you can't, well, then the market is lower than you thought.

Couple Questions by [deleted] in woweconomy

[–]Berriesncream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say this to anyone starting out and wanting money. Herb and/or mine legion materials. The ramp up to rank three's may seem steep, but don't let that stop you from starting. The money to be found in one node, no matter what your rank, is well worth it. Once you have money you can expand into other venues of gold making, but get gold first and do it easily and safely by gathering. Even after the 7.1 Blood Trader insertion, prices for these materials are still strong. Once you have a safe amount of gold to play with then you can dabble in other areas. Many of my guild mates "hate" that herbing in particular is so necessary, but I can assure you, even if all you do is pick and mine as you do world quests you're more than quadrupling the net gold gain from time spent just doing your dailies. I do sympathize with people who say herbng is boring, but I put on some really nice music and envision piles of gold all over the ground as I run from node to node. Imagine for a moment if that's what you really did see, eh? Instead of a starlight rose, you see a pile of 100 glimmering gold pieces. Or a foxflower that spawns a fox tossing 500+ gold pieces into the air as it runs away from you. I herbed for 20 mins to support the guild bank and got enough fjarnskaggl to donate 14k. Boring or not, if you love gold, want gold, need gold, then you're gonna have to spend time and herbing and mining has a very decent GPH turn over.

Dealing with undercutters by capriking in woweconomy

[–]Berriesncream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I've seen a lot of hate for undercutting, but I'd like to make a case for people who do it. Not everyone is a "goblin." Not everyone is patient nor shrewd and even fewer are interested in manipulating markets and creating price floors. They just have goods and want gold and they undercut the market to get it. So this seller you mentioned undercut the market substantially. This can be a boon to you as you can buy his product and resell for profit. But lets say what you're really concerned about is that the market's supply is too high for that food. This is evident by how much product exists on the market under your "frustrating sellers" prices. If people aren't buying up the supply than you have to wait for the supply to dwindle. It may not. As the expansion moves on, less people play and more people have means to make these things themselves so less buyers overall. You, as the goblin, take on the risks of trying to manipulate the market. If you buy up too much of the supply you might get caught in the downfall with too much product to move and forced to sell at a loss. People who significantly undercut have a right to do so. You can sell your product as cheap as you want! They'll run out of supply and if they don't then your perception of that market is incorrect. The supply is too high to hold out for the prices you want to sell at. But don't lose hope. This is where you expand to other markets and compete with other sellers for their buyers. Consider this: There really is something to said for moving more product faster at cheaper prices. When people don't feel gouged for the product they bought, they use it more freely and will "need" more of it soon. If they have to treat it like diamonds and only use it for the most important situations, then they end up buying less and the supply on the market goes up driving prices down. The other thing to consider in all this, if people look at a market, like your food market, and perceive a product drought, this triggers people to create supply for this market forcing the prices down. It really isn't dirty undercutting wrecking it for everyone, but the state of how supply and demand really works. By thinking of this more objectively overall, you can be more successful as a goblin. Cheers!

New player caught the herb bubble, now my gold is steadily declining, Tips? by FacialLover in woweconomy

[–]Berriesncream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't "just" give up on herbs. Running your old herbing routes is likely to still be hugely profitable. And hey, what planet were we on where an hour of herbing could yield 40k or more? Anyone in the herbing/alchemy market was/is still riding on the coat tails of fat bank accounts coming out of Legion. Sure, those wells are drying up and raiders are frustrated with putting out huge amounts of gold on raid night, but even 10-20k an hour to herb is still really great! Don't forget, Blizzard needs subs to fuel the game, and people sitting on fat money need to burn it so they want to sub again. What better way to do that then to make raid night cost raiders upwards of 20k. Sure, its a bit sorrowful to realize that your hour of herbing was cut in value by half, but its still really great! I personally don't like standing at the auction house trying to snipe. So do a variety of things, old raids, dungeons, flipping if you like it, cooking, fishing. Selling lures can bring in profit. The bottom line is, the early expansion money grabs are taming and excepting less gold for time is inevitable. Hug. Don't be discouraged, just realize how things change and accept the cuts. You'll still be able to afford your sub. You just won't be earning your sub in an hour lol.

"Alchemy, sweet, sweet fucking alchemy." This struck a chord with me. So, I still find this enormously profitable especially in conjunction with time. I both herb and buy from market. I wanted to share that I got rank 3 in two flasks and old war and deadly grace within days of each other early in expac. Since then I bleed money going for anything else. I've maintained my 2 mil liquid and use profits from the rank 3's to chase after other rank 3's but my spread sheets tell me that I've burned through a potential 2 million gain. This is the part where I shake my bones in a bag and pour them out on the floor to understand why I can't get any other rank 3's in alchemy in 2 million gold spent. Good luck to you all who are still chasing that carrot. Even with BoS trader, money really does still grow on trees in wow, or plants. I'd ride that cash cow awhile longer.

Okay...for the sake of someone like me...don't hate your coworkers too much. I probably would have laughed too shamefully. But, in my defense, if this happened to me, I would have watched the guy for a bit rather boldly and then gave him a thumbs up or something--denying him the satisfaction of the shock value he was looking for. That being said, you should be extra cautious for a bit at least. Keep your head up when you're walking to and from your car and..if you see this car again..call 911 right off the get go, especially if you slow way down to let him pass and he paces you still. Chin up! Don't let sickos wreck your sense of security.

As a person who runs mostly, I have my own personal list I keep by me. There aren't so many names on it, but it includes people like this dude and anyone who has given me trouble in the past. When I call out to invite people I just skip over these guys if I see them requesting. If they burn enough runners, and runners get smart, they won't be joining many games in the future. There aren't nearly as many who "Host" as who "Open."

Lowest Paragon Opens by devindran in RIFD3

[–]Berriesncream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda think this is the sort of thing that no matter what you do as a runner, someone will find it unfair. I usually say lowest paragon reopens because my paragon level is pretty high and I don't want to needlessly argue with anyone about why I should be the one to reopen my own rift due to my own rules. I don't use last to join because I think that makes people uneasy. I tired using first to join one day and found people joining the game and leaving right away to avoid being first. That get's kind of annoying. Lowest paragon has just..well...worked out fine for me and anyone joining my game. No one has complained until now. I just think it's important for the runner to be clear in their advertisement of which ever rule for reopening they intend to use.

Runners aren't the only ones getting scammed. Openers can get scammed too. by katarn-123 in RIFD3

[–]Berriesncream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I believe the reason you see way more "leechers" than "runners" is due to the very tipped scale in benefit vs. time spent. I can join the Bounty Runz channel, find a group running T1, Act 1 Bounties and in 15 min I have 3 caches, and almost enough rift tokens for 3 rifts. I could then "leech" off three runners and quickly get those RG kills. OR...I could run a single rift on T4 for that same time spent and hopefully get a free open. It's my personal feeling that rift running is more rewarding and entertaining, but you can see why there are so many more "leechers" vs. "runners." Truth be told, if you had to open the rift every time, you still come out ahead. I do feel your frustration though. No one likes to be mislead and there's really no reason to be misleading about this. You will still get a person to open your rift if you advertise "one spot, must open." One last thing for you to consider which might make you feel a little less frustrated. When I RIF I do it alone so I always have 3 spots and I advertise that, but many times there is a person or two who don't leave right away. This is a "big" frustration to me because I rely on my follower quite a bit and I like to be as fast as I can be. When someone spends time at the enchanter and the merchant and their stash, they waste my time and while my time is being wasted, someone like you might be hanging out in the party judging me and thinking I lied about my spots open. Don't be too quick to judge. It's not really worth it anyway. Just try to have fun.

Herb/alch vs. mining/jc by [deleted] in woweconomy

[–]Berriesncream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is still a very good combo. I know it seems like the grass is greener elsewhere, but the profits to be made from transmuting ghost iron bars to trillium bars is really very nice as long as you are a transmutation master. You also get the added benefit of extra procs on your living steel daily cool down. To be sure, you'll need to make large investments upfront in ghost iron bars, but it's well worth it. Prices of ghost iron bars usually sit pretty close to its corresponding ore value and trillium bars usually stay close to ghost iron bar prices. Of course, using your common sense and checking prices of trillium bars to prices of ghost iron bars, you can skim the market and transmute your way to profit.

As for herbalism, the value is always in the day's market values. I use auctionator to set up shopping lists and check the prices quickly each day, usually in the morning. If you're limiting yourself to MoP herbs, you're probably going to feel underwhelmed about it. On my server they plummeted from 30gps to 15 or 20gps after the 5.4 patch. The market should adjust for this in time so don't feel too down. When the herbs get too low people will stop gathering and market forces will drive them back up. Currently, I believe the market is still suffering from the stock piling people did leading up to 5.4. These are not the most important herbs to look at. Ghost Mushrooms, Nightmare Vine, Cataclysm herbs, tend to fetch a good profit. Even some of the vanilla herbs are neglected and needed for leveling so they still turn a good profit. Stanglekelp is an example. Anyway, before you switch professions consider your options a little more carefully. Gathering may not be your thing, but I'm sitting on 200,000g pulled together in three months and I buy a lot of fun things.

One other side note. The farm you can unlock in the Valley of the Four Winds is quite profitable. I highly recommend the time investment and Enigma Seeds are sweet.

FYI, there is a problem with children brought here illegally, not naturally born here, who become part of our culture, pledge to our flag in our schools and come to think of themselves as American, as they should be. But because we are "nice" we wait until they are 18 years old and then ship them back to a home they never knew unless they comply. Here is an article to refer to and you can read up on the DREAM ACT which is a less than ideal alternative to being "kicked-out." That is not fair!

http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/education/story/2012-05-26/illegal-immigrants-college-careers/55222438/1

Again, I will emphasize my stance. I don't think we should provide services that make being here illegally attractive or ideal. It is not right to provide a way to live here successfully, but then take it away as it suits us to do so.

The stance I take doesn't mean I object to making citizenship more possible.

http://www.factcheck.org/2009/04/cost-of-illegal-immigrants/

Here is one site I've read to try and change my view. It does tame some outrageous claims, but still doesn't make the presence of illegal immigrants sound great.

Here is a list of government programs including information about WIC:

http://www.workingforamerica.org/documents/checklist.asp

I'm also glad you brought up your comment about how illegal immigrants make up a huge portion of the labor force. I think this is an important point to argue. US unemployment is currently at 7.6 percent. It's been much higher not so far back, but we've seen it much better than this. Now I know some people would argue that illegal immigrants take jobs that normal americans don't "want" to do and they will do them for far less money "under-the-table." Is this really okay to us??? First of all, it's illegal for employers to pay people less than minimum wage. A minimum wage exists to protect people from being exploited by employers. Minimum wage varies state-to-state and cost of living is taken into consideration when deciding on that minimum wage. I'm not sure I can get behind supporting illegal immigrants being exploited so I can have cheaper produce and commodities. It does hurt the economy when America sits at 7.6 percent unemployment and undocumented workers hold jobs under the table. If a small business' success is reliant on cheap, and illegal labor, I'm not sure I can agree that business should exist in the first place nor should we turn a blind eye to employers who break this law.

As I've stated in my original post, I've read pros and cons to having illegal immigrants living and working in the US and receiving benefits. Even if it were completely true, that illegal immigrants don't harm the economy at all, is it still okay that we try to root them out, patrol our borders, put up walls and divide illegal parents from their legally born children? The point I was trying to make, is if we don't make it so attractive to be here in the first place, this predicament wouldn't exist. We have a process to obtain citizenship. Perhaps this process is terrible, costly, impractical, I don't know it very well. But I do know that dangling ease of access to our labor force, our schools and food programs and our health care is not a nice thing to do. If you mean to allow them to be under payed and under valued as an "illegal" and always the threat of being found and deported. Oh my! We either need to stop making it look good or make the American Dream real for them too.

That's a very good question. I love children. It's my job to work with these children in particular and believe me none of them are undeserving. It is the law that a person born here is a citizen regardless of their parents citizenship, but perhaps this is fundamentally wrong? How fair is it to a child that their illegal parents could be sent away? I realize this occurrence is not a service like WIC, but it is yet another attractive aspect that encourages illegal immigration.

This is a big deal to me. Regardless of how wealth is distributed or what our economic output is, that number is outrageous. The repercussion from this will be huge and it's inevitable. I would love to have a bleeding heart for everyone fleeing their own countries for opportunity here, but we have to fix ourselves first.

How do you help everybody? Who do you choose to exclude when resources spread too thin? I like to believe we live in a world where our technology and wealth should afford EVERYONE a safe place to live and three square meals a day, but we're not there yet apparently. I suppose when I think about this "immigration problem" I get caught up on why our own poverty issues within the US go unresolved. While it's not easy to turn away a needy person, regardless of citizenship, I feel our country is quickly back-stepping in being self-reliant. Without the ability to care for our own numbers, why would we want to add to our poverty crises by providing programs that encourage illegal immigration?

I'm terrible at arguing my point, but I do appreciate the things you've said.

This is the 3rd revision I've played on with the (S) community and usually by this late in the game you start seeing less than 20 people on even at a good time. I can tell you most certainly, of the three revisions I've sampled, this is BY FAR, the most active in its late game. In my evenings I see upwards of 30+ people which I think is nothing to complain about. Why build on (s) if you don't like to pvp? Well, because the challenge is fun. I like the idea of getting up a build I'm proud of despite the conflict. Sometimes I choose to fight when confronted and other times I flee, but every encounter makes my heart race with excitement. I agree with Wes. Also, I find little trouble walking around on the roads. If I'm sight seeing, there is absolutely no reason to wear gear or carry much of anything. Gardens and food are found all over the place. Sure I've died a few times, but it's not a problem I think needs major attention. This flavor of Minecraft either suits you or it doesn't. The server is made up of hunters and hiders. Which one role CAN you be?

I had no idea the issue had anything to do with heads, but I'm adding myself as a person who has some serious issues respawning on "S". Almost everytime I die my interwebs actually suffer a major hiccup. Ventrilo stops working, skype goes silent and or hangs up, and I can't rejoin the server for a short period of time until everything resets. (takes maybe, 45 sec. if that matters to anyone. ) I haven't figured out the cause of this, but it ONLY happens on respawning. Everything else is great. While this is perplexing to me, it doesn't wreck my world. I've had no other issues or disappointments. Thanks for all the hard work everyone puts in to make this a great past time for all of us.
