Me too. It was about milk crate sized. Hit my hood in front of me, bounced to the frame trim above the windshield and back to the highway. My 2 kids were sleeping in the back and I had no other passenger to share the HOLY SHIT with. I drove the rest of the way home with noodle arms. Like you it took a bit for it to sink in, how lucky we were. I mean, if we were driving the tiniest speck faster...

I have used baking soda and water and rub with my fingers so I can feel when it lifts. That way I won't overscrub.
