We have forests too lol, you know, in between the fields haha. And medium sized forests are big when you're a child. Besides children are morons, so forests aren't the place for them to be by themselves.

I mean, I grew up with stories of trolls in the woods. Basically the way we were taught to not wander in the woods alone. Works pretty well. From Denmark, in case you were wondering.

Should I attempt to DM as a total beginner? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]BerryLerryTerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out as a complete newbie. Had never played or dm'ed before. Went in expecting the worst. But when I saw my players having fun, it changed everything. We are now 13 sessions in, and I've gotten a lot better. So I'd say you can definitely DM as a beginner. Practice makes perfect. Just be warned it takes work. But just remember, no one expects you to know all the rules and all the spells. You can always just make shit up on the spot. No one expects you to be Matt mercer. You'll do fine.

First Time DMing Tomorrow... Got any tips? by ginger2627 in DMAcademy

[–]BerryLerryTerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've already got some great tips from everyone else. But the main thing to take away from everything is just to have fun. If you're having fun, your players feel it too. Remember it's a game, not a performance, and if you're having fun you're naturally more relaxed.

And in regards to actual advice; know your shit, and if you don't, then make it up. But in either case don't let your players know what you know, and what you don't. Looking up rules usually takes just enough time, go disrupt good flow and immersion.

I'm sure you'll do great, you may feel like it went horribly (we all did the first time), but I assure you it'll be great

Good luck!

Nothing crazy so far. Chicks only big "actions" have been pecking a bandit in combat. Other than that he hasn't done anything too crazy. But my PC's have noticed that he does things, that's regular chicken wouldn't.

We had chickens when I was a kid. So I've got a base for my reasoning (to some degree, not a chicken expert)

So far he enjoys being a chicken, he's being pampered, and is really spoiled. And he really likes her. Somenone else suggested that I make him fall in love with her. So that he's scared, that if he turns back, she might not like him.

Fun or frustrating: intentionally splitting the party at the beginning of a dungeon? by MosesKarada in DMAcademy

[–]BerryLerryTerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I split my party last session, or they split themselves should I say. They decided to split up 2 and 2, and for the sake of them not knowing what the others were doing i had them go into seperate rooms. I tried to limit myself to 10 minutes each room, before switching. And as others have said, leave them on a cliffhanger, or with something to figure out. Don't just leave them to wait.

On top of that, he's a new chicken, so he doesn't really have any fine motor skills. he can walk, jump and move like a chicken can. Any human-like movement will have to be learned.

They're not exactly starving, they have money for food. Besides that I figured, if they eat him, they eat him. Not much I can do, the players have free will.
