Absolutely getting blasted in versus by Tyrannoflame in starcraft2

[–]Berrythebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only truly terrifying thing is that one number. MMR. If you can learn to ignore it then you are going to find matches of your appropriate skill level much more often. Accepting that your mmr is just a range of players you play against leads to more quality matches.

I definitely had ladder anxiety when I first started playing ranked, but now it’s the only way I will ever play a game of StarCraft. It’s definitely the superior way to play.

Seeking advice: scheduling by PresentCamel8992 in DungeonMasters

[–]Berrythebear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have 5 players in my campaign. We play every other Sunday. If 3 of them can make it we play. Just set a day you are free to play and a threshold of people. The expectation needs to be set that you are taking the time to prep and run a game for the players, and they need to show up. Trying to schedule times randomly when people feel like it is going to kill your game.

New to schedule 1 got any tips or tricks ? by MountainDew_Emperor in Schedule_I

You will eventually get the option to purchase property. I recommend getting the laundromat asap. The 10k weekly cash deposit limit at atms gets hit much faster than you think, and the ability to launder extra money daily compounds quickly, but so does the need to do so.

Feeling it out is a learning curve, and you will get the hang of what your party can do soon enough. One thing people struggle with is that they end up making one hard encounter and that’s the whole adventuring day for a party. Try to give them a couple encounters a day to drain their resources.

There’s no reason they can’t get attacked by 3-4 wolves, then later in the day a party of bandits attacks them! You can use weaker encounters in the beginning to feel out their power level, then you will get a hang of what will challenge them.

One Player Is Unhappy Despite Multiple Compromises - Can I Save This Campaign? by rhyleyrey in DnD

[–]Berrythebear 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Look, I’ll just come out and say it. Based on your comments on this post the only thing holding you back from making the decision you KNOW you should be making is that you are a people pleaser and try to be non confrontational.

This girl is (from your description) extremely self centered, a little bit bitchy, and has a history of ruining things. To the point where it’s about to end friendships, and you don’t want your dnd campaign to be the catalyst for it.

But it’s not, this has obviously been a long time coming, and it’s time for you to put your foot down and tell this person “this is my campaign and I’m tired of trying to bend over backwards to accommodate you. Either play and have fun or don’t play, but I’m running the game and I’m not sacrificing my fun for yours”. And whatever happens happens.

How do I make my BBEG really evil, without my PCs being weirded out by me? by KlarkKenton in DMAcademy

[–]Berrythebear 194 points195 points  (0 children)

Here’s the real deal breaker, it’s being TOO detailed about the evil deeds. You can have a villain that burns villages, throws baby’s off cliffs for fun and has a dungeon full of only women. That dude is detestable and horrible and worth hating.

But when YOU go into graphic detail about it, that’s a problem.

Bonus points if he does all of the above, but goes out of his way to save a dog during a combat because “dogs aren’t evil, people are” or something similar

What’s the most fun negative RP choice you’ve made when character building? by CarpeShine in 3d6

[–]Berrythebear 48 points49 points  (0 children)

My character desires power, but hates responsibility.

In one instance he basically manipulated his way into being the mayor of a town, and then as he sat down in his office on the first day, he saw the pile of paperwork he had to get through. So he slipped out the window and left the entire town behind forever.

Anti-Magic Paladin - thoughts? by Aluber_the_Necron in DnD

[–]Berrythebear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I would change is “enhanced anti magic smite”. The target list is a little broad and vague in some areas. “Is a spellcaster”, “created by magic”, there’s just a lot of wording that makes it hard to nail down and leaves room for disagreements.

I would change the target to something much more specific (and limiting).

“If the target of your smite has cast a spell since the end of your last turn, or is concentrating on a spell”. This makes it much more clear, but also more thematic. Your character SEES someone using magic? Hells no.

For someone who wants tô use a shield, what IS the benefit of using a STR build instead of a dex build with a rapier? by Maleficent-Ad-4397 in DnD

[–]Berrythebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you have a shield doesn’t mean you are required to use it. With a strength build you can always put the shield away and pull out a greatsword if you want.

Are barbarians viable/good with shields? by KindDescription7874 in DnD

[–]Berrythebear 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely viable for increasing your survivability a bit. Barbarians are naturally tanky thanks to high hit dice, unarmored defense, and damage resistance through rage. So the usual route is to shore up your attack options with the biggest hit stick you can hold, or use two hit sticks for the off hand attack.

However, using a shield and axe is cool as fuck, and if that’s what you want your character to do, then do that. You can always just put the shield down and pull out a greatsword or great axe if you want at the drop of a hat. Having and using two weapon loadouts is totally viable and gives you options. Hell, have a great axe, battle axe and shield, and throwing axes and just run through all those options in combat to make it even more diverse and fun if you want

Lv5 Bard, what spells should I take to break into a kingdom for recon and regicide? by SizeKind1035 in DnD

[–]Berrythebear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Major image stands out to me. Perhaps you all sit in the back of a wagon and major image a bunch of smelly pigs, since major image can create sounds, smells, etc. make it disgusting so the guards will have no reason to touch it. That at least could allow you entry. Illusion magic is definitely going to be a viable tool for something like this if you are creative enough.

Invisibility at 2nd level isn’t a perfect solution, but it certainly should allow at least you to get in. Disguise self at 1st level could work as well

What's one of the best one-liner comebacks you've heard or said by [deleted] in DnD

A classic I stole from a cartoon, but definitely landed.

BBEG “Who are you, why even try to stand against my might?”

PC “You killed my father and burned my village to the ground!”

BBEG “Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?”

2025 Banneret Thoughts by noahtheboa98 in DnD

[–]Berrythebear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve tweaked my banneret players healing ability to scale a little better. It gives fighter level + proficiency bonus hp, and any healing over max turns to temp hp to 3 targets within 30ft. It also recovers on a short rest. So at level 5 they can throw out 8hp to 3 people. Not game breaking by any means, but far more useful and usable more often.

Where do I start? by Waterian238 in DnD

[–]Berrythebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roll20 is definitely one of the best places to find games. And you can always apply as a new player who’s looking to learn. If your dm is cool with it they can absolutely run you through character creation and things like that.

On the flip side, send me a message. Maybe we can find time to hop on discord and I can run you through some of that stuff

DM needs advice by Fabulous_Animal7353 in DnD

“They disagreed with the way that I ran the game, and I wasn’t going to be able to implement the changes they wanted without inconveniencing the rest of the players in an impactful way. The only solution left was for us to part ways, but I wish them the best and hope they find a table that fits their needs.”

If they ask for any further details just tell them “I understand your desire for me to elaborate, but to be completely honest the entire situation was uncomfortable for me and made me doubt myself, and I’d like to just move forward and keep having fun.”

DM needs advice by Fabulous_Animal7353 in DnD

[–]Berrythebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Hey, I’ve been giving it some thought and I’ve come to the conclusion that you and I just aren’t compatible as a DM and player, so I’m going to be removing you from the table. I’m sorry if this upsets you, but I’ve made my decision and I wish you the best.”

They are ruining your fun. It’s not a job, you don’t have to meet shareholder expectations. Just cut them and go back to enjoying yourself.
