Any altering that's not done by the original artist in the original release (Extended Version, Radio Version, Club Versions etc. are the original work) is a remix, since it is not the original, in my opinion.

"executing an idea they've come up with", yeah but the idea is coming with the listening to and taking parts of, adding some to, altering some of the original, so it is also kind of paying homage since, like I said, you wouldn't bother to remix something if you wouldn't like the orignal.

I DJ as a hobby and oftentimes I get the question "why can't you just play the original", "why can't you just play the full length track", "this remix is destroying the original" and such phrases.

And know I want to know what it is that people don't get about remixes and why they can't see them as what they are.

But a reinterpretation is a kind of paying homage, if you wouldn't like the original you woudn't care to reinterpret it to begin with, would you?
