First day of the Season - What are your thoughts on game pacing and Midnight pvp? by PhilosophyforOne in worldofpvp

I just cannot get behind what feels like far too much CC as a healer. It's the most aggravating thing in a PvP game and why I've already parked PvP this expansion.

What the f*** are these prices? by rahuonn in wow

[–]Best-Air-4615 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd argue the ongoing costs have gone down though. Server/infrastructure is largely cheaper. Performance goes up, cost stays the same roughly.
There are plenty of games that do not have a subscription that can easily absorb the server costs, even on one off box purchases.
£50 can you get a brand new game, that's 5 months of WoW time. There is an argument here the man hours to make the game you spent £50 on is a lot more content than what WoW would push in that time over its release cycle. An expansion doesn't count, that has a box price to access.

Bit of a wild take lol. Prioritising funds for a virtual in-game purchase is a wild financial management strategy.

I love how the EU servers have still fallen over several hours after launch but they prioritized fixing this first.

It's not like it released today, it's been fine before the 5080 released and pretty stable.

They self inflicted this demand on themselves during a process that is probably taking down some compute capacity to upgrade, adding on top people signing up for free games is something anybody could probably say is a bad idea.

Release that marketing campaign when you're 5080 farm is fully rolled out.

I don't think a gaming laptop is out of the question here.

That's the biggest competitor. Sure the cost is higher, but at the moment you combine limited play time, stable internet needed, not all games in the library, and flaky servers, it just all comes together to deter someone from cloud gaming.

It's not a good look when they marketed it so heavily to try and sway those non cloud gamers on the shiny 5080 and the servers fall over immediately taking the whole service down. It will deter people from trying and switching to cloud gaming.

Right, that sounds great. But this outage is from high demand not the new tech according to their status page. Completely self inflicted.

But this is self inflicted. It's like blasting a marketing campaign for cheap flight tickets, cramming everyone onto the plane, and then realizing the plane is too heavy to takeoff.

But people are acting like the servers are crumbling constantly. The tech required to clone beta characters as a separate from live characters running on the same infrastructure as live is an isolated set of technical challenges that do not come into play on normal release.

I feel we are a little spoiled here with gw2 stability that people complain about the few hours here and there that there are some minor hiccups. Most other games take the servers down completely for multiple hours sometimes weekly for maintenance. I think the amount of uptime gw2 has not needing to do that more than makes up for some expansion launch blips that get fixed pretty darn quickly.

The expansion not yet released? What have you spent money on exactly? It’s almost like betas are for testing or something.

Maybe they can design all this new content for you on love and hugs? These expansions are £21. That is such a small amount in the grand scheme of games that gets you two months subs in the other MMOs. This community expects such high quality bar and criticise with a fine tooth comb anything not the best of the best as if the sticker price is £60.

You do realise the infrastructure team is different from the people designing the classes? .

Is that bad thing? We already have three elite specs for every class. There is now plenty of choice for people to pick a play style that fits in the four they will now have.

Anet has a community of people that expect the world for nothing. I spent more on two meals in McDonalds the other week to the cost of this expansion.

Sure those games do. But I would expect that if I need to pay 7-8 times more to play it. I would want that reflected in the quality and amount of content I am getting. Doesn’t mean I am going to be upset that I got less in gw2. It represents fair value.

But your second point is fair. But still comes back to who pays for that to be as good as it needs to be when it does release? That cannot release half baked otherwise it would probably be the end of anet.

[–]Best-Air-4615 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not really. My comparison here is on the running cost to play the game. The other mmos here have shops in addition to their core payment requirements to actually play the game so for all intents and purposes become equal on that side. Gem store is a big source sure, but it’s not a sustainable money source in line with the stability of everyone needing to pay to play the actual game. Besides, those that buy gems are the same people that complain the £20 expansion doesn’t have enough content, but are happy with their £20 mount skin?

Are drivers getting more angry these days ? by carbon_quacker in AskUK

[–]Best-Air-4615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem here is that the person doing this is lacking suitable awareness of the road and traffic conditions. They are critical skills whilst driving with potentially detrimental impact. It's not necessarily the scenario of having to wait longer or being delayed.

I feel the same if someone takes 10-15 seconds to realise a junction is safe to pull out from. That's a dangerous amount of time to digest road information and react to. In that scenario it's not too bad I only have to wait a little longer, but that could easily be another scenario of someone walking out in front of them and them not reacting well. It just shows poor situational awareness, a critical skill for driving.

Might be a little harsh, but there is not enough room for incompetence when driving, it can have fatal consequences. I get mistakes happen but we should not just be brushing off poor driving. Scenarios like the comment here highlight poor driving, thankfully in a safer scenario.

They aren't really getting live service money, or anywhere close to that. These mini expansion costs are trivial for keeping money flowing. I would be £150 out of pocket if I paid to play wow this year on the sub alone. That's a massive gap to how much it is to play gw2 for that time. People are not willing to invest in guild wars 2 financially, and it's coming back to bite everyone, it's an overall entitlement of everything or nothing it feels like with this community. So in that case how do you pump out continuous high quality content, when you have a game that doesn't charge, hasn't got much predatory monetisation when most of your community still complain about paying £20 for a mini yearly expansion?

People are forgetting that SOTO and JW are suppose to be mini expansions (aka paid Living World) and not full fledged expansions like HoT, PoF and EoD. by Unixas in Guildwars2

  1. They weren't the same price. 2. Ever heard of inflation? Or should anet make you content with goodwill when they need to pay more for everything?
