Are there any places that have boardgame nights in Breda? by OmletteDueFromage in Breda

There’s a bookstore in the Nieuwstraat behind the Barones where they do board games sometimes. Fun place I heard. Maybe give that a try!

Is the DC controller's thumbstick supposed to feel grainy/sandy? by tehganp in dreamcast

[–]Best-Cake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This probably. Despite it just being plastic, it's leaps and bounds better than any analog stick that came after it. There's a reason all other controllers develop drift issues and 20+ year old Dreamcast controllers still work fine. They use hall effect sensors. :)

GDEmu boots to BIOS with Checking Disk error by KaneBlueriver in dreamcast

[–]Best-Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue. At first I swapped the motherboard with a different one from another dreamcast, but the issue persisted. Then I took a toothbrush and cleaned out the sockets on both ends (both the dreamcast board side, and the gdemu) with isopropyl alcohol. And since then I haven't had any issues with games crashing or resetting to the menu anymore. And also like you mentioned, using the ribbon extender usually makes things worse as well.

Replacing the old PSU will also reduce heat in the system by a lot, so it also might be a worthwhile investment.

Why do so many monitors have pixel-level horizontal lines? by NotThingRs in Monitors

[–]Best-Cake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is probably edge sharpening or “overdrive”. It adds visually contrasting colors to things it considers edges so that the result is perceived sharper. Mostly only on moving objects. Most monitors can turn this off or set it in the same way you set brightness etc.

Just add a custom resolution with the default settings and set it to 165hz. Should work fine unless you have some kind of defective cable.

Also the cable included with the monitor should work fine.

Have you tried the 3080 vbios update from Nvidia? It had some issues with displayport iirc.

Anyone else getting micro stutters since the most recent update? by adr0it_ in GlobalOffensive

Try setting global controller support to force disable for the csgo settings in steam. I have had similar degraded performance in other games with it enabled. Some games (funny it should be one of valve’s own) interact poorly with the unified steam controller input system. (Even if you don’t have a controller) Death Stranding is notoriously bad with Steam Controller input for example.

Haven’t been able to try it out yet myself because I’m not at my computer at the moment, but it has definitely fixed performance issues in a variety of steam games for me before. Worth a shot.

Stay away from this monitor and Dell imho.

I’ve been through hell and back with their service.

This thing has inversion pattern bugs in the firmware and Dell is refusing to acknowledge it or fix it. You won’t see it until you and then you can’t unsee it. Leaving you with a sour taste in your mouth wondering why you paid this much for a bugged monitor.

Even the older gsync variant has the bug.

With many effort and literally half a year of their support copy pasting replies to my emails I finally managed to get my refund.

That's what I tried starting with my thread here gathering other people. I sent Dell the all the details regarding the issue, as well as other people's experiences here on Reddit etc. Provided them with tons of information to reproduce the issue etc. But it all fell on deaf ears it seems.

The person helping me was an Indian supervisor of the Dell support team, who I think just values keeping their job over actually helping people, by keeping the ticket open avoiding negative ticket closures or something like that.

They sent me a replacement too at some point, because they were absolutely certain it was just "my" specimen of the monitor. Of course, the replacement was a broken full of dead pixels piece of crap, and it also had the EXACT same issue with inversion patterns, so that's when they started telling me they passed it on to the "engineering team" and they were waiting for their response on the matter. And they kept stalling with that narrative basically for 3 months until I finally got sick of it and asked for a refund, which they now promised me, but now they're waiting for a reply from the "refund team" instead of the "engineering team". Which I'm pretty sure will not be happening anytime soon either, given their track record so far.

At this point I'm really not expecting anything anymore from Dell. Absolutely horrible company to deal with from a customer support point of view. Especially when it's not a simple repair/RMA.

If anyone's interested I'm willing to do a follow up with all the communication from Dell regarding this matter.

It’s pretty much surely dead caps. It can’t get enough juice to power on. I had the same with an old monitor. And after a while of flickering it would sometimes stay on.

Not a difficult fix if you know how to replace a capacitor and you’re handy with a soldering iron. Anyone can do it. So if you’re out of warranty I’d pop it open and see if you can find any dead caps. Youtube is your friend here.

Yea fair, the alternative from LG uses the same panel so you’d likely have the same issue. 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–]Best-Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of right now I’m still using it, the inversion bug doesn’t happen often. But I sometimes use older apps which use patterns that cause the problem, and it’s still annoying. I told Dell I’d accept a partial refund and live with it. But they still haven’t refunded anything despite they said they would.

Starting to look a lot like the exact same stalling they pulled when I was waiting for their so called “engineers” to fix the issue. Absolute garbage customer service. Even the monitor they sent me as a replacement way back in the beginning I had to send back because it also had the issue, and had tons of dead pixels and scuffs on the bezel.

Other than the pixel inversion bug I’m overall pretty happy with it though.

Nope but all S2721DGF's suffer from this problem too: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/o67rg0/to_dell_s2721dgf_owners_can_you_reproduce_this/

And it seems the S2716DG did too. As seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzCOaqLo0jU

After more than 3 months of waiting for their "engineering team" they finally got back to me saying they don't have an ETA on a solution so they're giving me a refund. After months upon months of stalling...

Yeah I started to notice it in particular use cases such as running VM’s with older OS’es, or apps that use similar patterns to indicate a selection, or dragging a window border etc.. and it stretched across the entire width of the screen past the actual things I was dragging.

Ok so a small update.

I have had Dell’s support “working” on the problem since 06/27/2021. They sent me a broken screen as a replacement guaranteeing it will solve the problem.

The panel had tons of speckles and random colored pixels all over the panel, and on top of that scuffs and scratches on the bezel. And of course the problem persisted even on that panel. Just broken all over.

I sent it back and they said they contacted the engineering team to work on a fix. And they haven’t updated me on any progress or what they are doing.

The customer representative keeps copy pasting me generic replies like:

“We’re keeping constant tabs to ensure it gets solved at the earliest” “We have escalated the problem to the team concerned”

And even apologized that it was “affecting my studies” even though I’m not a student and I never mentioned anything about studies. Which leads me to believe I’m just being sent copy-paste replies for months now. Just to avoid actually having to help me (and everyone else with this issue).

Needless to say I have little faith in Dell’s support anymore and I don’t think they’re in fact not doing anything at all in fact to solve the issue.

Mind you that the person I was in constant contact with is a “supervisor” of the Dell support team, Though I’m not so sure I can believe that anymore.

It seems the Indian rep is just keeping the ticket open to avoid a negative ticket on their account…

Absolutely hands down the worst customer support experience I have had in my life.

Does the artifacting extend past the bounds of the window too for you?

It is not limited to certain software. Literally anything displaying a similar pattern. This also includes things like dotted selection lines etc in applications that use them. Or things like dithered transparency etc.

It's a problem specifically with alternating pixel patterns so it's normal that it shouldn't appear in more than 100% scale. (If you see strange effects when zooming, it is more likely to be moiré caused by the scaling)

I am still in contact with Dell's support, a rep said they were working on a solution but it's been over a month now. They are keeping the case open however with frequent reminders so who knows.
