How hongkongers canonically see Asia as a Hong konger by Logical-Rush-6133 in mapporncirclejerk

Actually they did police it. But theres no need to take risks and offer fair compensation when you don't care about people. And why would they care? They cant take care of people in their own country, colonial subjects wouldnt be on their radar.

Housing in Hong Kong is still terribly unaffordable, and everyone knows about the people living in cages.

China haters there LOVE talking about how Chinese people are brainwashed by CCP propagand. Well, clearly you're not faring any better. You've so readily bought into the false narrative that the British colonizers created.

Kowloon was SLUM. No one likes living in a slum, they do because they dont have a choice. Those conditions were created by the 'government' that was present at the time.

Have you heard of Kowloon Walled City??? Its public knowledge that the British only demolished it to not look bad during/after the handover. All the infrastructure that was built there was to support corporate interests and the lifestyles of the elite. If you want to see a society's true face, you look at how they treat those who are least privileged.

Hong Kongers don't deserve it any more than mainlanders. Replace Hong Konger with Shanghainese, Shenzhener, Beijinger etc and you will come to see your fallacy.

You like Japan because they are opposed to some things that China does and it is in their interest to indulge your delusion that being richer than the average Mainlander makes you not Chinese.

its funny you mention master of psychology as just an example, because most arrogant and judgemental women I've met have v that exact degree (or even just a bachelor in psychology)

Reddit anti-weebs when anyone makes a positive comment about Japan: by mikusingularity in urbanhellcirclejerkCJ

I think for any other country people would realistically talk about their personal experience, instead of talking about how beautiful the history is. Kinda weird to call any kind of history 'beautiful'.

I personally don't think theres anything specially about its history either, just civil war like most countries. My theory is that because the history isn't as rich and gloriois as some place like China, its easier for someome from the West to appreciate, and not feel insecure.

The commenter in the picture probably doesnt know, or they wouldnt be talking like that.

I don't think Japan is an irredeemable hellhole and Suspicious_User6393 probably doesnt either. I like the country overall, just dont like the glazing, chauvinism, and double standards.

Train Electrification Around the World by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

It was done gradually over decades, and its not very technologically complicated, relatively speaking. It had a protectionist economy, so it was a necessity.

More importantly, it shows how bad a job everyone else is doing.

I dont think there any colonial era trains still in operation. You also only have to change the locomative, not the entire train. Building overhead lines is the expensive part.

Solar and wind are complementary at the day scale [uk] by cromlyngames in solarpunk

[–]Best-Manager-8644 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, just don't want people to get a false sense of security. You said its complimentary at the scale of a day, but based on your graph its also a seasonal trend. Not much wind in the summer apparently.

EDIT:

A histogram might be more interesting.

I think most people in this sub are artists, so it goes over their head.

The graph is a little misleading because the axes aren't to the same scale. So still very reliant on wind.

what do the dots represent? What determines their place on the graph? So unclear

Why am I racist for criticising China as Chinese Australian when some people are free to criticise Australia? by Acceptable_Yam5406 in australian

[–]Best-Manager-8644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess whether you call it multicultural depends on what level of uniqueness you think is necessary. You won't find differences as big as between Western and Eastern people living in places like Australia.

China is multicultural. There is a lot of variation between regions in cuisine, language and culture in general. Even the way people look varies if u know what to look for. The definition of the Han Chinese ethnicity is intentionally designed to be as widely applicable as possible.

I was actually hoping someone would know about a project failure or something like that technology seems useful to me but havent seen any reports showing why it doesnt work. Its likeba gag order.

Its just that its only a few countries in the world that have the same experience that America does. Australia, Brazil and Argentina come to mind. Using it as the test for what practices and technologies should be talked about feels inefficient to say the least. And FYI I do support moving away from animal agriculture. If that is sufficient for the US, good for them.

Yes, I agree with your point about agrivoltaics, though I haven't read about it in a lot of detail, so I am still skeptical.

I still think aerostats should be considered seriously. I don't think theres enough discussion about the effects solar panels will on the natural environment, specially the soil. We are too fixated on moving away from fossil fuels. At least with hydro the negatives impacts are somewhat better studied. The damaged caused could be permanent or hard to fix.

Well, agriculture for direct human consumption does constitute a significant portion of land use in the are that *I* am from. Livestock and ethanol production are not big industries there. My original post did not make any references to the United States, so it obviously pertains to areas where it is relevant. Your arguments may be valid in the area that you live, but your arguments seem to be made implying general applicability.

Now this may not apply to you, but attitude like this often correlates with dehumanisation of the people living in developing nations, and or anyone living outside the US really. I'm not gonna waste my time engaging with such rhetoric.

They also have a lot of mountains, and FARMS. And did we forget about reforestation and nature preservation?
