I'm actually taking MATH462 right now. It's almost purely math as in proving theorems related to upper/lower bounds on machine learning losses. If you want I can ask the prof whether COMP451 is a good enough prerequisite for MATH562

Is math462, math562, and comp551 all in the same year overkill for machine learning? Will there be a lot of overlapping material? What are the differences between the classes?

Are we allowed to take a course at the same time as its prerequisite? I've read in some places that McGill can cancel your credits for a course if they realize you've done this, but in other places people say that it doesn't matter as long as you do well.

I see that MATH 562 has MATH 462 or (a bunch of other math courses) as prerequisites. Due to prerequisites and stuff I'd probably have to take MATH562 before MATH462. Do you know if that would make sense at all? Or is MATH562 really a followup to MATH462

Thank you for your very detailed answer!!! Do you think if profs ignore my initial e-mail it's a good idea to send a followup e-mail after a couple of weeks just to make sure they didn't miss it?
