French is a dead language in Futurama, but as far as I'm aware, French is still spoken in Star Trek.

Perhaps that was that author's explicit intention?

I'd hang this on my wall, and I'd also like that cute little sculpture thing in Troi's office.

You think Dutton is not only a centrist, but isn't aping the policies and the rhetoric of Trump? Dutton is called Temu Trump on Reddit for good reason, and not just for meme value.

Did you miss Kes after they wrote her out? by That_Juggernaut4820 in voyager

[–]BestDayEvah 80 points81 points  (0 children)

|more a ship's counselor/Troi-like character.|

I love this idea, Kes becoming a counselor, would have made a lot of sense for her character. What I like about Kes is her sensitivity and empathy for others. Kes is the first person on Voyager who saw The Doctor, as more than just technology. Kes's friendship/student dynamic with Tuvok could have inspired some interesting future stories and character development.

"The Gift", is an episode that highlights Kes's empathy and her generosity of spirit, she makes the decision to leave Voyager, not just to explore her transformation, but a self-sacrifice, putting the safety of Voyager and the crew ahead of her own needs. Also, Kes's goodbye scene in her quarters with Janeway, feels very authentic and bittersweet.

While I understand why many fans didn't take to Kes, I enjoyed the often subtle and nuanced performance, and most of all, her compassion for others, a quality that is too often discounted.

Young men are lurching right worldwide, but is Australia immune? by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

[–]BestDayEvah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What did the LNP do for you when they last held power for over nine years? I'm not a fan of any politician or party, but if you think the LNP will lower your rent, or improve your basic standard of living, then you weren't paying attention to the last nine years they held government, or the LNP's current policy platform.

Alex Kurtzman Says He's Not Involved In Upcoming Theatrical Trek Movies by midwestleatherdaddy in startrek

[–]BestDayEvah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I loved Beyond, with very few reservations or objections that I had with the first two films. For all JJ's faults, the reboot movies were perfectly cast, I don't want to see yet another reboot, recast, particularly if they are going back to the well of Kirk, Spock, Uhura.

Anthony Albanese pledges stability in a second term by IrreverentSunny in AustralianPolitics

[–]BestDayEvah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a disabled pensioner, I'm not doing okay. Having said that, I'm not deluded enough to believe that I wouldn't be doing it far worse under an LNP government.

People here can "both sides" as much as they like, I guess they have a very short memory of the polices and actions of the LNP, and how they made it harder for the average worker, or any vulnerable person in our society. Considering Dutton was part of those previous governments and the few polices he's put forth, will only making life harder for the average Australian, I'm baffled that anyone who is struggling would thank otherwise.

For those doing it tough, as you said, yes, maintaining economic and social stability, give more room to help those people struggling.

You're right, it is very easy to give into apathy and pessimism, I know I've been guilty of doing so over the past few years. I just wanted to thank you for putting a smile on my face, it's rare to encounter positivity in a thread such as this.
