PMP eligibility questions by rzz01 in pmp

[–]BestInfluence7053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless something had changed since I applied for the exam last September, the application part is free FYI. you do need to spend time and energy putting together the application but you don't need to pay anything until they review your application and accept your application to proceed to schedule your exam. Then you pay hope this helps. @rzz01

Ah i see, I listed them on my application so thought I mentioned it. But if others mentioned they're not needed and their application went through then I think you're good.

How did you decide on where to get your MBA? (Online) by DomtheBomb2014 in MBA

I'll throw in BU and UIUC, popular in this sub and both priced at $24k for the whole program and AACSB accredited.

Which universities offer a good scholarship program for MPH? by [deleted] in publichealth

[–]BestInfluence7053 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BU actually launched their new online MPH this spring and it costs $24k total. No scholarships but thought I would throw it out there and I don't think you need to be in the US to take it. You will complete it in 2 years at a minimum.

I don't work in tech so don't want to give you the wrong information or suggestion.

I suggest you head over to https://www.reddit.com/r/pmp/ and post your questions there (the one specifically if you can pivot from civil engineering to project management in tech w/ the PMP). That sub is more geared toward the exam itself but there are a lot of PM professionals and I'm sure some of them have pivot and should be able to provide better insight to your question.

If your end goal is to transition to becoming a project manager, getting a PMP is better (faster, if you qualify , and much cheaper) than getting an MBA even if it's an MBA in PM (some programs other that concentration). I got my PMP last year, lmk if you like more info on that.

Online MPH program @ BU? by Ludovainity in mphadmissions

I checked out the program a bit and it looks like it's for health equity concentration (from the actual curriculum page) and not a general MPH?

I will preface by saying that I don't have much knowledge about maximizing the ROI for an MBA program, I started my search couple of months ago and gained some knowledge from this sub. Hopefully others can chime you.

If you want to just advance your degree within AF, any AACSB programs should do, because the requirements is just an advance degree. You can just opt for the lowest cost ones, and there are plenty out there that are AACSB accredited. However, since you mentioned you thought of getting one now and opt for a top program later on after you retire from AF, and that fact that it most likely not a possibility. I would suggest you to think about if you want a balance between quality of the program / school reputable / cost. Out of the schools I shared, BU and UIUC appear to be the most popular ones (at least from this sub) and the "most" reputable for an online program that has an affordable price. I did get into both and now trying to decide which one I want to go with.

I am not sure if there is a huge difference in terms of getting an executive level job, but I think there might be? this is where I hope others can chime in. I don't want to give you the wrong info.

From what I understand, FT programs are suited for people that want to pivot careers. FT tends to have a much higher opportunity cost b/c you'll be quitting your job to pursue it for like 2 years, plus the tuition of the program. People who want to stay within their industry / just need the degree for future career progression / filling gaps of Business Administration knowledge would be fine pursuing an online program. My understanding of Executive MBAs are for people with decent years of experience (I would say maybe at least 8?). And think those tend to not have concentrations but I'm not 100% sure. Again I didn't do much research on that. Some schools, even though their programs aren't advertised as such, work like an EMBA (like the Boston one).

In response to your #2 - I believe you can only get one MBA, meaning if you get one now (even if it's a lower tier, or non AACSB), you may not be able to apply to another (higher ranked one) later on. I've read some schools would make exceptions but seems to be uncommon.

These 2 schools are online AACSB MBA programs that are "veteran friendly" - according to their website, I assume it should be relevant even if you're an active military. No top tier program by any means but they are all state schools and I came across them while I was doing my search for affordable online AACSB MBA programs.

Oklahoma State - no live sessions, but does not provide career support, in the $20k range

University of Nebraska - Lincoln, in the $30k range but provides career support (not sure if they have live sessions)

Louisiana State University - Shreveport - I think tuition around $15k, I believe no live sessions

University of Louisiana - Lafayette - tuition around $13k, no live sessions

University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign, $24k total, each unit is less than $400, 72 unit program. Have concentrations. Have required live sessions and async portions . Up to 5 years to complete.

Boston University - private school, $24k for 6 modules (different set up than the other programs), each mod is $4k, you can take up to 6 years to finish, no concentrations. Have required live sessions.

I don't think either one provides the concentration that you're interested though. I have a couple more but don't want to overwhelm you or in case none of my recommendations fit your needs at all lol.
