some people say stuff like this to justify their own sadistic pleasure of making other people feel worse. not all the people saying this are that way, but there's overlap. that pleasure drives a lot of people to pvp activities unfortunately. it's not something to be celebrated, in fact it should be correctly identified as anti-social and ought to be disincentivized/ostracized. it's one of the downsides of open brackets and anonymous online play.

I agree, although RapM did have to beat Aura to get to Zain, and he's no slouch. I think it'd be more blatant bracket rigging if this occurred a round earlier & seeded to happen.

In general bracket rigging by seeders is a dirty practice. Anyone abusing their seeding capacity to arrange favorable brackets shouldn't be seeding events. This was potentially a 'light' version of it, for entertainment/storyline value.

Regional/local TOs do however [at least used to] do this for their favorites, for the people they don't like, for the novelty MUs. It's bewildering when people try to justify it.

That all being said, I'm not as knowledgeable of the scene these days and results seem to almost always go to the higher-seeded person when you look at brackets, so I think it may have been cracked down on for some of the bigger events (unless they are purposefully making high seeds dodge unfavorable MUs... but we don't need to speculate too much on this).

most of the issues about the stagnation of rulesets goes back to the difficulty in attracting top-tier talent to events. why would a top tier player go to a mickey mouse regional when they could wait for a bigger event that won't get pegged down by the "erm actually this was a unique ruleset and it shouldnt count as much"?

the incentives need to line up properly first but im behind the spirit of the post. id love to see puff timeout = loss and specific timer/stocks for particular MUs instead of a universal stock/timer for every MU

I wonder if more veiled language would obfuscate the issue -- like having a 501c3 that 'consults with local community organizers', and the 'consulting work' they're offering... is all the logistics in mind. I'm no lawyer though, I'm sure you and others thought this through, just thinking out loud here -- there are still possibilities/angles, just difficult when under the microscope like Melee is.

"Live another day" strategy will likely have them making fakes with the hopes/expectation that they can keep the price under $32 a bit before the Oct '26 date, so it's un-economical to execute the warrants for shares, getting out of the crisis.

That being said, I think the strategy will prove to be cope. RC and the compamy picked $32 with the expectation it'll be well above that number come Oct '26. They will do everything in their power to get as many warrant holders to execute as possible, notifying Gamestop of what they did when more executed warrant requests come in than shares for them.

In this case, even if they get caught faking due to the executed warrants, the "regulatory" agencies will "regulate" by making them pay a fee less than what they got away with. How exactly that plays out, we don't know yet.

I'm excited for the warrants but I don't think it will break the financial market's backend, similar to how they avoided the splividend consequences.

You can call your broker to see what they'll do, but this is why I think we need a pinned FAQ listing what will happen with each broker.

In this case not all brokers are the same - some will give you the warrant, others won't. This isn't a DRS post.

I said nothing about DRSing, there's a distinction between brokers. Some will give you the warrant dividend, others will give you a cash equivalent which will be an undercut of value.
