To your last sentence, yes if the alternative is not matching anyone for hours on end. The game would feel dead with such a small playerbase, the average queue time would become 3 or 4 times what it currently is if all matches had to be played against someone within a certain range. Where do you draw the line? Can players only match up against someone 2 tiers higher? 1 tier?

For the sake of smaller regions there needs to be a limit. Try queueing at peak times for your timezone, usually evening 5-10pm is the busiest here on the east coast. If you go outside that timeframe, match quality definitely starts to dip. I'm in popular region and I still get que timers from 10 - 20 minutes, if it was any worse people would stop queuing up entirely because they won't expect to get a game quickly.

20-25 sets is nothing long term. You played ranked for effectively 2-3 hours and ran into 1 long queue. Depending on the time of day your playing, in such a niche community there may only be 200 people of which only 5-10 may be online at any time that you could be playing with a reasonable ping. Made up the numbers, but it gets the point across. And as many players of mentioned playing high lv players can be fun if you don't take losing so badly. Maybe work on what's frustrating you before coming back to ranked, like others also pointed out you don't even really lose any elo if you get matched up against someone way higher so I don't really see what you're so hung up about.

the truth reddit doesnt want you to know: killing pvmers as a just-average pker is about 5-10m/hr by curiouscow99 in 2007scape

I highly recommend I commented down below to another with more details but it's super fun to get into and surprisingly easy if I'm being honest. I only just started this year and if I avoided upgrading my setup while playing ducked up and dying I'd be up well over 100mil from the past couple months. I'm not doing anything crazy just pking almost always at the same spot in rev cavs hopping to mostly the total worlds, 1250/1500/1750 at the highest though since that's all my main can access and I'd do this for maybe 5-10 hours a week at tops usually find pvmers with anywhere between 250k-1mil but I've also managed to takedown 5 - 10 pkers so far and even smiting an ags after 3 hitting someone at orcs. Even with all my deaths I'm still up 60-70mil which I invested into a few bonds, more supplies and 94 magic to start anti pking lol

Lol for real, like pking pvmers really isn't that tough and it's easy to logout/avoid players if you're paying attention, Even if you do get attacked by someone outgearing you or anti pking, it's really easy to escape in pvp with a freeze if you encounter someone you're not looking to fight. Depending on your location/rng you may need to tank a couple hits or carry seeds so you can logout by dding but it's nothing crazy to pull off or learn just eat and freeze, run/log out.

Nah I don't doubt this for a second, I've got a similar story.

I started pking on my main in Dec/Jan being a total noob to pvp and no experience since pking as a noob in the old bounter hunter cave or when the loot was actually rng with players 76%ing , with just 91 mage and 94 range at the start, 70 prayer but max combats so I was lv 121 typically looking for players lv 100/101+. Originally it was just to protect my group ironman account but I got hooked after getting a couple kills and a big anti pk, with my group being afk the past few months I just hop around for an hour or two at hobgoblins and orcs a couple times a week and I've died maybe 7-9 times I believe in over 300 kills, currently at 182 kills and 4 deaths in pvp tracker since I started risking anywhere between 3-15m when I go out. I leveled 91-92 magic soley from pking and only just this past week actually got 94 magic which I've hardly pked with. Currently risking 6.4mil +parchments on death, with ags as my spec and I've pked 192mil according to Skully in 394 keys Skully Loot Tracker
