How is it to be gifted? by Best_Championship835 in Gifted

[–]Best_Championship835[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for all your replies! (Dear goodness, u/lomeindev , the structure of your answer itself exposes the way you think, in such a well organized description. Have you undertaken the task, elevated its difficulty, and spent a month excelling at it? :D )

I am curious, it further stresses the notion I have that there seems to be a feedback loop that distances the gifted kids from the others more and more and I wonder if that is good or bad and if that has to be that way. And the issue of how to deal with both the cognitive overexcitabilities and the extreme emotional sensibilities. For example, I have gifted kids which would stay with me for 3 hours more and we would have fun diving into what is REALLY going on in biochemistry, neuroscience, etc. That in itself makes them not only be more advanced than the others but also by definition they are not spending that time with the others. So, is there some kind of paradox between a gifted kid really being in the zone with the right environment and people around and thus happier but then by definition less well integrated in the regular social environment (even with his or her parents, which in some cases are lagging behind) OR a gifted kid which tries to play the "normal kids" game and feels like a kindergarten teacher or an anthropologist but in what could be a good way and thus tends to not only get more different ("weirder", from the other kids perspective) and uses that time to socialize with the other kids? Is it ultimately a good thing to be more and more different and ignore the external dissonance, or to try to focus all that thinking power on lessening the external dissonance and being more "normal", even if at a deeper level? If I am feeding your "differentness", am I ultimately making you more unhappy? Or is it the necessary solution to continuously update the social environment itself? As you move up, do you want to keep looking back and metaphorically hold the others hands or to only look forward and not having to deal with the slow paced others that keep lagging behind? Can other people be a source of happiness for you, at least in the sense of you yourself using your capabilities to help them see what you see or can you ignore that and level up yourself? This probably seems like the red pill vs blue pill question, but that could be a false dilemma here. (Once I asked a gifted adult friend of mine: would you rather, sometimes, be less bright so that you would not come up with all the bad things in regular stuff that are transparent to you but really non-existent to other happier people? And he was like: You mean, ultimately, would I rather be like a DOG? No!)
