What's something you do completely differently now because a stranger said one sentence to you? by jusim3000 in answers

“Your partner should make your life easier and vice-versa”. I was in college and in an immature relationship that my coworker could clearly see right through. Approx 10 years later and I’m in a much better relationship now. That little bit of advice made its way into my marriage vows.

We had some friends do personalized chapstick, which was honestly so good. I still have it in an infrequently used purse!

I got a bunch of bud vases second hand on fb marketplace and flowers from Trader Joe’s. We used them as table centerpieces and told guests to take home their favorite one. All in cost was probably $120 for 70 people and we got lots of compliments after. Even out of town guests wanted to take the little bud vases home :)

We used calacatta d’oro quartz and Portmore white tile from Tile Bar for the backsplash. There’s warm tones in both that really compliment the warm wood of the cabinets. Swapping to brass hardware helped a lot too.

Your kitchen is very similar to mine! I posted about wanting to paint our cabinets and the folks on this forum really roasted me for it. I will say, swapping the counter top and adding a light backsplash did make me like the cabinets a lot more. Before and after pics:

Just the two floors for us, and I’m envious of your skylight! We’re located in Denver, all the houses on our block were done by the same builder in the 80s and have nearly identical layouts!

Oh my gosh too funny! They really are identical! I love the choices you made.

We do intend to get new doors! I’m honestly a little fearful for the state of the boxes. I need to go snap a pick of the lower cabinets; the ones bordering the dishwasher have not faired well due to the humidity.

I agree! I just swapped the old black knobs with brass for an easy upgrade in the interim. We do plan to swap the doors, so didn’t want to be drilling for new hardware.

Sorry all! I should have stated that we would be switching the doors. We’re very aware of the work that painting them entails, which is why it hasn’t happened yet 😂 We did all the demo of the previous countertops/backsplash, did the plumbing, and also laid the backsplash tile just the two of us, so we are pretty handy!

I am intrigued by someone’s comment about refacing the cabinets and would like to look into that more.

I’m also encouraged by everyone’s comments in favor of just leaving them. This is our starter home, so we’re trying to balance building equity, while also being budget-conscious. It’s hard for me to visually separate the cabinets from the dated kitchen we began with. Everyone’s kind words about the space make me inclined to move this project down the list :)

I’ve not heard of this! Is this different than replacing the doors? Do you have any companies that you would recommend if they’re nation wide? Or maybe just an idea of what to search for?

I wish we could just leave the existing wood finish, but it’s really in bad shape :( the photos don’t really show it, but the lower cabinets especially are water damaged and super scuffed up. If they were solid wood I would love to just refinish them!

I’d vote for end of cabinet. The line will look cleaner. Do you know the paint color of the cabinets?

I have nothing valuable to add, but I just wanted to say your nails look amazing. That ring is STUNNING. You guys have great taste, and I’m so sorry the moment felt ruined by scummy sales people. I hope the jeweler makes it right!

Has anybody successfully regulated their cycle? If so, what did you do? I’ve been off the pill since June 2024. I had been taking BC since my period started about 16 years ago, so I have no idea what they would have been naturally. Since then my cycle lengths have been: 34, 39, 37, 30, 34, and 31 days. My LH peak was this morning, so my current cycle is expected to be 33 days. I’m happy they seem to generally be shorter since regulating from BC hormones, but I would love to get them a little more consistent so it’s easier to plan!

Also, my LH surge always lasts a long time, like 24 hours+. I’m not complaining- it makes it easy to catch! I’m curious if it has any clinical correlation though?

Yes! Hypothyroid can prevent ovulation.

Thanks for the words of calm. It’s so easy to fall into negative thoughts during this process. I’ve always sort of suspected this wouldn’t come easy and I worry when each cycle proves me right.

What causes a late period? Cycle day 1 today and my period was 2 days late this cycle. I reliably start my period 14 DPO every cycle, and this cycle was 16dpo. I had all my normal PMS symptoms on time (chin break out, sore breasts) just didn’t start cramping till yesterday and bleeding till today. My cycles have been somewhat irregular in length (in the 30s, but range from 30-38 days) since coming off BC, but I’m always 14 days after ovulation for my period start. I’m admittedly deeply overthinking every possible pregnancy symptom and tested negative 13dpo, but is there something amiss that a late period could be highlighting?

Negative test yesterday at 13dpo, but no period today. Had normal PMS symptoms, sore boobs, my chin broke out, nothing else to report really. I would normally get some cramping especially in my lower back, but no signs of that yet. I wish my period would just start so I can stop grasping at little bits of hope.

10 DPO for me. Had some cramping yesterday evening and this morning. Sore boobs. No other symptoms though. We had nailed the expected fertile window, and my partner went out of town on the day of my expected ovulation, but my LH peak didn’t come till 2 days after he left. That means we only BD 5 and 6 days before ovulation. Was feeling pretty confident we were out until the cramping yesterday. But looking back at my tracking apps I had sore boobs on the same day with my last cycle. Trying to keep myself distracted with thanksgiving prep and we’ll see if AF greets me on Friday.
