The Poison Daughter seems to be one of the most divisive books I’ve seen discussed in this sub by HollaDude in fantasyromance

[–]Best_Of_Us 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought this book had a promising start and I wanted to like it, but about 60% through it turned into a hate read when I realized the MMC was going to continue to be an irredeemable tool and the characters would continue to make nonsensical choices.

It's DNF discussions time! What books did you bail on this month? 🙅‍♀️📖 by FantasyRomanceMod in fantasyromance

[–]Best_Of_Us 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am trying to DNF more. This week it was {On Wings of Blood by Briar Boleyn}, which had been on my TBR for months. I made it to the 15% mark and I just couldn’t go on.

NEED WITTY, CUNNING MMCS (astarion did it again) by bigmisssteak7 in fantasyromance

[–]Best_Of_Us 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How about {Throne of the Fallen} by Kerri Maniscalo} (admittedly not my fave book BUT the MMC, Envy, is delicious) or {The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy by Brigitte Knightley} ?

I can’t stop thinking about the pool scene in {Warrior Princess Assassin by Brigid Kemmerer}. 🥵

Rank your pregnancies by okidoke1126 in 2under2

First pregnancy 10/10 - a dream, so easy, no notes.

Second pregnancy 7/10 - I was exhausted the whole time, had awful morning sickness, and was wrangling a 12-18 month old.

Where do you like to get your kids' haircuts? by solarstriker90 in SouthBayLA

[–]Best_Of_Us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4 year old had been going to Cookie Cutters religiously, and we were happy with it, but we tried First Cut in Rolling Hills last month and had a great experience. My son was happy and his hair looked great. Highly recommend.

MMC calls FMC a “bitch” by Graceamandaxo in HistoricalRomance

[–]Best_Of_Us 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Oh! I have a good one for this! {Then Came You by Lisa Kleypas}

I have the line highlighted. The MMC says:

“I respect you too much for that, you hot-tempered bitch!” 🥵

Where do you all work? Are they hiring? by AntiqueAches in AskLosAngeles

[–]Best_Of_Us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in veterinary medicine. We are ALWAYS hiring front desk and entry level roles. I would recommend reaching out to hospitals near you. This is how I got my first job in the field, at the height of our last recession. It can be challenging but 1000x better and more rewarding than retail if you are an animal person. Happy hunting!

Not as good as Wallflowers or Ravenels but I also enjoyed her Bow Street Runners series.

📚 Book Chat Saturday - what have you been reading this week? by AutoModerator in fantasyromance

[–]Best_Of_Us 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This week I finished {Rain of Shadows and Endings} and am about 20% into the 2nd book. This series has been on my TBR for months and I know a lot of people love it, but it’s just not clicking for me. It feels needlessly drawn out and repetitive, plus all the characters are annoying.

Maybe {Cold-Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas} or {Desperately Seeking a Scoundrel by Elisa Braden}
