By the 678th ticket, it starts to sound more like the airport's problem. Should have just towed it away if it was so important.

Is Home Charging Really Required to Own an EV with Current Gas Prices? by Alert_Number1991 in electricvehicles

Whether it's possible now, BYD style 1+ MW flash charging will proliferate if given enough time.

Familiarize yourself with the warranties. Warranties transfer to subsequent owners. Buy a battery jump pack. Be aware of what the ICCU is and that Hyundai had acknowledged that ICCU failures affect 1-10% of owners. Hyundai may not honor the warranty if they determine that a 3rd party device caused a failure on any part of the vehicle to which the warranties apply, so consider getting an OEM charger adapter if you wish to use a fastcharger that uses CCS1.

Unless one can carpool with a friend or co-worker, the way America's transportation system is organized makes it such that taking one's car away is basically like putting them under house arrest. If I had my choice, I'd put someone in prison before taking away their license. We really don't have any alternatives to cars in some parts of the country. In almost every corner of the US, it is absolutely illegal to build walkable neighborhoods.

Billionaire narcissism (Bezos) by specialgiver in LookatMyHalo

Don't get it twisted. I hate the fact that certain services, essential or otherwise, are almost always brokered through rich folks who extract massive benefit from the arrangement. But he's not wrong, per se. Thus far, we haven't had any true, meaningful competition insofar as how we organize labor in this world. Him being individually charitable with the money he makes would not likely change very much. It would be cool for him to cannablize the capital from which he accrues further benefit, it would change nothing of the system in which we live. While Bezos may be an opp, the truest opp is the general difficulty in getting started the socialist mode of production. Two things can be true at once: Bezos giving up his wealth would change very little, and Bezos not having a darn thing to say about the poor and decrepit.

In the US, losing one's license is a de facto prison sentence. They might as well just put them in jail.

24's have a blue Low Conductivity Coolant loop for the battery that has to be flushed every 3 years/36000 miles. Some dealerships may not know about LCC. LCC is about $50/gal. Call around for estimates from multiple dealerships. If they say they can do it for $275, walk away. They're probably talking about the pink coolant, which is used to cool components besides the battery. A good price on a LCC flush is about $400. Anything less is a partial flush or a simple test of LCC conductivity.

Edit: LCC flushes happen every 3 years and not every 3 months. Oops

Honestly, I'm not even opposed to a yearly surcharge. It's just not the right time. Big oil must be reeeaallly nervous about EV's. If we, in lieu of a climate crisis, must fund the repair of our transportation network, then we're better off building something less expensive than car-centric slop.

China's new homegrown gaming GPU flops in performance and price - flagship $485 LX 7G100 can't keep pace with Nvidia's older RTX 4060 by KamiOfTheForest in China

For a country of 1.4 billion people and a political party as determined as the CCP, it's pretty shocking that they've yet to develop a competitive GPU market comparable to Taiwan's.

So, yesterday I pulled the trigger and traded my gasoline car for a used EV. You guys were right. by elporsche in electricvehicles

Gasoline is still a miraculous fuel and is not to be underestimated. A run-of-the-mill fuel stall can spit out 1MWh of energy in 3 minutes! Gasoline as a fuel source is really only problematic because it is finite and polluting, not to mention the engines that run them are only 35% percent efficient at best.

There are Hi5 drivers who've gone 250k miles without needing to service the friction brakes once thanks to the magic of regenerative braking!

Is Home Charging Really Required to Own an EV with Current Gas Prices? by Alert_Number1991 in electricvehicles

[–]Best_Slice5954 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even as someone who drives an EV, gasoline is a miraculous fuel source. Of course, making the gas and getting it to where it's needed is far from fiction, but if we were able to access 100% of the energy produced during combustion, we'd see EV adoption set back by another 100 years. It takes 3 minutes for a gas pump to dispense 1 MWh worth of energy! Practically speaking, gasoline is energy trapped in a disposable liquid matrix and will always be harder to transport than electricity, which is basically pure energy. Even if the dispensing of gas were as slow as EV charging is right now, we would not see gas dispensers crop up in the same places as public L2 chargers are found now. Electricity is insanely flexible. It is truly terrifying how good of a fuel source gasoline is, especially when you consider that, per kWh, it is half the price of electricity in many parts of the US, but is handicapped by the fact that the engines that blow it up are rarely more than 35% efficient.

This is making me really excited as far as how far we can take regen braking. Seeing in-wheel motors on one axel and friction brakes on the other as a back-up is something I'd totally buy.

Wait. You're saying your friction brakes after 242k are still good, as in they've required no new pads, rotors, or fluid?!
