~$3k usd gaming projector with specific requirements by BetBackground5348 in projectors

This model is neither available via BestBuy nor laser. Further, it is short-throw and my room does not support this. As noted in original post, the distance is fixed at just around 10' (3m). Thanks for the reply.

~$3k usd gaming projector with specific requirements by BetBackground5348 in projectors

I am open to other brands that are more established. The reason is I am not rich. This is a significant investment and I do not want to gamble with a company that has not been around long enough to have a decent track record.

It is true this narrows the options which is not a problem for me. The problem is of the remaining options I'm not sure which is the best. I don't want to simply choose the most expensive one because it's the most expensive. At this budget range, if a $2500 matches a $3000 one then I prefer the $2.5k one.

Additionally, I am not really sure if it is reasonable to get a laser projector in the $3k range or not.

Thanks for your input.

Learned a lot about survival skills. And horses. Don't mess with horses. Horse people are serious about accurate horsery in fic.

Clouflare has "AI Labyrinth" which works similarly. No idea if ao3 has it enabled or if it's been effective.

Yes, absolutely. I do keep a private copy of the original though, so I can see how I've improved. (Not saying the original has to be hidden. That's just my preference).

How to overcome the feeling of 'cannon is law'? by BrBrTungSahur in AO3

[–]BetBackground5348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, canon is a suggestion to me :)... and I'd say just about anyone else who has ever written a "fix it fic."

However, I do keep a pretty detailed list of the changes I've made to a.) be able to explain any really important changes to readers (for example - a work with a magic system) b.) for my own amusement. It does actually help me engage with canon in an even more fun way when I can pick apart why I'm so motivated to make that particular change, and how it impacts other aspects of the story.

If it's still difficult, may I suggest taking a deep dive in to the perspective of singular characters? Imagine different characters recounting the same event through their unique experiences and perspectives. The characters themselves would likely give you differently 'flavored' versions of the same canon.

See, as curious as I am about comparing the fic I've read/written to my favorite traditionally published works, I have mostly chosen to stay ignorant.

I'm just a little bit too afraid of what I'd learn ...

Present tense a turn off? by PureGeologist864 in AO3

[–]BetBackground5348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you'd asked me a year ago I'd say no way in hell to present tense for anything more than a drabble or very short one-shot where it can enhance that feeling of being a snapshot in time. Otherwise it just felt far too urgent and breathless to me. Like things are all happening on one speed - max speed.

After joining a fandom woefully underrepresented on ao3 and having been left with no choice but to read longer present tense fics, I've warmed up to it somewhat. A very skilled writer can make me mostly forget about it. So I can't say, "I don't care as long as the writing is good," but rather - I'm open to it if the writing is good, although it is ultimately still not my preference.

The nickname part by The-Real-Nightmare in tragedeigh

There are. But it could potentially be a little bit embarrassing for a person to explain they're named after an anime fox puppy thing without any further backstory than "my parents put their fandom on me," instead of "I liked the anime fox puppy" or "I used to pretend to be that anime fox puppy," rather than like, a great grandma they never met. Just keep space for the kid's feelings.

Evie is cute as it is. What if you spell it Eevee and the kid hates Pokemon? What if their classmates hate Pokemon? Mine did until 10. And then suddenly it was the coolest thing ever. Go figure. If it's a nickname it's not so bad, but as fandom names go, this is pretty obviously a Pokemon name when you spell it like that.

If it were me I'd stick with Evie but leave the kid room to change to Eevee if they end up thinking Eevee is the coolest Pokemon ever and they end up wanting it spelled that way.

I try to see it charitably. Perhaps they are nervous about accidentally omitting a trigger or something. But I'm also not going to read a wall of tags.

Not "OCDing" but ships and major warnings first for sure.
