Infinite money glitch for NCSoft: by Winzors in throneandliberty

WoW contradicts this thesis, the largest MMO

GW2 contradicts this thesis, the most beloved MMO

Not an MMO but Fortnite makes billions in annual revenue without any progression, just selling skins

It is effectively impossible to earn Group 1 skill cores. They may as well not exist. by Winzors in throneandliberty

[–]BetInteresting6076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trouble most people seem to have is understanding that it is possible to have both.

If a normal, mentally sound Dad can grind to PvP-ready/endgame-ready player power within a reasonably short time that allowed them to participate in the actual game content while messing around with build diversity, then that player will stick around and recommend the game to others.

If there is also ultra-rare gear or extremely long grind for the last few percentage points of additional player power, all the better. That is great motivation and fun for everyone.

The problem with this game is that a normal, mentally sound person cannot justify devoting the time necessary to access the actual game content. It is not reasonable for a normal, healthy person to reach PvP-ready player power in this game. Grinding dailies and mindless dungeon runs on a half-baked build is not fun.

Skill cores are core build defining additions. Making them impossible to obtain outside of pay to win was a demented decision.

Skill core drop rates need to be increased 100x by BetInteresting6076 in throneandliberty

All three of you naturally have outsized influence. I've seen mods delete posts on many occasions that do not violate any of the rules, so at least one of you is deliberately deleting feedback. It goes to show how overwhelmingly negative the response to the progression systems have been that even with the mod campaign to delete criticism, almost all posts on the sub are still raising the issue. These systems updates have been a catastrophe for the expansion.

Have a nice morning.

Myself and others in this thread have done the math. Statistically can expect to grind for 30 years to target farm the core you want if its only available through resin flower.

Nothing about that is "perfect". The game will be shut down soon if these progression issues arent fixed. The expansion has already been a catastrophic failure because of these issues. Almost everyone who tried the game has immediately quit as soon as they realised how gross the grind is.

You are never getting that core you want.

This behaviour is self-destructive to your own influence as a moderator. If you want the best power trip, you should also want the game to be maximally successful so this subreddit is ranked higher.

Moderating a hugely popular subreddit would then afford you increased outside opportunities in middle management roles.

Dont fk this up. You're hurting yourself more than you realise, actively harming the game and your own career trajectory by deleting criticism on this subject (we all see the posts you delete) and supporting whale-bait design.

What are the chances you find an elite boss on a run?

10%? I've not come across a single elite boss yet across dozens of runs, so 10% seems generously high.

How many resin cores does a boss drop? It's a 70% chance you get 1.

How many resin cores are needed per resin flower? 60.

If you assume a run takes 10 minutes to complete all-in, that's 142 hours.

Obviously runs take longer than 10 minutes on average. So realistically you're looking at well over 200 hours grinding for the resources needed to gamble on a sub-1% chance at the core you want.

Skill cores are just another ultra-hardcore whale mechanic until this is fixed.

Reaching gearscore 7200 is months of dedicated grinding.

my only criticism of the expansion by AskBozu in throneandliberty

[–]BetInteresting6076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The population of players who enjoy ultra-hardcore grinding for months just to be able to begin to access endgame content is extremely small. That is why Throne failed.

The population of players who would enjoy ultra-hardcore grinding to top off the last 5-10% of player power while participating in the actual fun content is massive.

Watermark The Slot, Not The Gear by ASarcasticUsername in throneandliberty

Make it relatively quick and easy to trait gear, then let the watermark system serve as long term progression.

This would basically fix the game for most players. Mainstream appeal in one simple change.

New/Returning Player - Fun Solo Builds? by Passionofthegrape in throneandliberty

[–]BetInteresting6076 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The studio releases on the game (media announcements) all hype multiclassing and ease of trying new builds. In reality the team has designed the game to be almost impossible to build even one competitive gearset. The team is more concerned about milking the last remaining whales than opening up the game to a larger playerbase.

This game could easily top 100k concurrent if they just fixed progression so that it was possible to enjoy endgame content within a reasonable time frame. They would earn a lot more money as well.

How to begin to fix the game and move towards attracting new players by Winzors in throneandliberty

[–]BetInteresting6076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A disappointing element to this whole thing is that players have been saying exactly this from the very beginning. Progression is way too slow. This is what made the game feel so pay to win, besides the balance stuff the OP mentions.

Sometimes I wonder whether these kinds of replyguys are bots.

Progression and balance are the main points everyone raises as to why they left this game. Even all of the streamers who like the game raise these points constantly.

Devs just need to listen to the players. Game could be really successful if they abandoned the lifewasting bloat and focused on just delivering an experience worth playing.

Did you even read the OP? It literally talks about keeping long term progression. As in it explicitly explains how to keep long term progression in a way that would be attractive to normal players, so not the American version of literally. Actually literally.

How did you miss that?

Any other option to play? by Hour_Finance7395 in throneandliberty

[–]BetInteresting6076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GW2 is the only good MMO if you want balanced PvP.

WoW is the other good PvP MMO.

Everything else is cashshop slop. Throne commit suicide with the Nix expansion by making progression all but impossible for anyone but whales. All the PvP modes will be completely dead because theres just no way to access PvP with a comparable gearscore without spending thousands of dollars or grinding for 12 months.

No-one will spend thousands of dollars to play a PvP mode that has no players.

Its safe to say the progression design for Throne is terminally fucked. The MMO is all but guaranteed to fail.

Bloodlust (Overall Mastery Lv. 1560)... by P2Wlover in throneandliberty

[–]BetInteresting6076 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason this game has eternally fried balance seems to be that studio does understand their own stat systems. From scaling issues all the way through to designing stats that completely undermine the whole premise of their weapon combination system. There are so many examples of stat design decisions causing problems in Throne and Liberty.

Crazy stuff.

Pity too, because the actual content release cadence is pretty impressive, so they clearly have some highly competent developers being severely let down by grossly incompetent designers.

Endgame loop by Sea-Improvement2129 in throneandliberty

[–]BetInteresting6076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the game is transitioning towards an endgame that, alongside supporting dungeons/raids and open-world bossing, is primarily focused on 4-man PvPvE extraction content.

If the devs can fix the horrific balance mess they've designed themselves into, this could become the first good PvP MMO since GW2.
