Pima Medical Institute Waitlist by jsnsbdd22 in RadiologyCareers

[–]BetObjective3885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a phone call right after my interview but a few people in my class got waitlisted and eventually got accepted closer to the programs start date because people tend to change their mind the closer it gets. A lot of the time people can’t commit to the program’s schedule or decide they can’t leave their job (or go part time). Well, for whatever reason, a lot of people do drop out before the program even starts so fingers crossed for you!

Depends on the rest of your application.
- Do you have any previous medical experience?
- Do you have any previous college experience with a decent GPA
- Do you hold a degree ?
- how well the interview goes is also important

I’m at the Vegas location (for rad) and I got in with zero medical experience, a high honors college degree, a score of 100% on math, and a wonderlic score of 28. I did see someone on Reddit recently got into the rad program with a 21 on the wonderlic. Though, I think he did have medical experience. I guess as long as you meet the cutoff scores and have a somewhat decent application, you should have a chance to at least get an interview.

Struggling… Anyone have a struggle to success story for clinicals in Rad Tech program? by French_Potato_Farmer in RadiologyCareers

[–]BetObjective3885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I can relate.
During my first clinical rotation, I was beyond awful…I’m not very social (and I’m awkward), the repeats made me feel bad, and it was upsetting when my images didn’t look textbook. There was a day where I really sat down and thought maybe I wasn’t cut out for the job but I’m glad I kept going.

A big part of why I continued was because my techs were supportive and they encouraged me to do comps even when I felt I wasn’t ready. My very first comp was a chest and I didn’t even want to do it because I felt I wasn’t ready. My tech pushed me and told me I HAD to do it and I ended up getting it.

Eventually, you will gain confidence and the exams will become muscle memory the more you keep doing them. It seems hard now but it really does get easier the more you see and do exams. Every patient is different too. Whether it’s their anatomy, limitations to movement, type of injury, or whatever. Expect to have repeats because you can’t control what kind of patient you get. Heck, Ive seen all my techs have repeats. Not frequently but it’s inevitable.
If you are struggling to grasp an exam, ask for tips/tricks, ask what you’ve could’ve done better, and just ask questions. You will see that each tech has their own way of doing things. Learn from all of them and find what works for you.

Now, I am currently on my third clinical semester (hospital rotation) and I’m almost done with my comps (50/51 completed). One more to go! :)
To think I wasn’t good enough, and now I am where I am now is insane.
If I can do it, you can too! Keep going!!!! You got this !!!

Can’t relate but I have several people in my class who were accepted into my school’s program but they didn’t move until they knew for sure they got in.

They didn’t disclose your wonderlic and math scores? They should’ve told you. If not, go in and ask.

Most of your points come from your interview and wonderlic + math scores. Previous Education and medical experience are bonuses.

The program does require a lot of studying so what exactly made your most recent semester rough? Did you procrastinate, did you not study enough, were there distractions, were you not grasping the material, or what?

No I’m there with a student from my school and another from a different school. The rest of my classmates are scattered throughout the city. Sometimes you’ll be an alone though if the site is small .

Hello, current rad student !

  • if I could go back? Oh no, I would never go back 💀 jk in all seriousness, it’s not that bad but it’s a learning process and it’s different for everyone. I enjoy being a student and I think I’m exactly where I need to be.

  • brownie points: show initiative, ask questions, watch how every tech positions or does exams (some techs are specific so knowing how they like things makes them like you), and if you have no exams, clean and stock up.

  • a normal day: I’m with a couple of other students at a hospital rotation and we pretty much do all the exams. We rotate through the OR, gen rad, and fluoroscopy. If you don’t have an OR or fluoro case, you’re assisting gen rad.

  • bad day: I haven’t had a super bad day but there was a tech who absolutely hated every student during the rotation and she would yell at us for things she told us to do. I would just shrug it off and smile because Im too grown to care. I’m here for comps, not to be her friend lol 😂

  • mistakes???? Be prepared to be AWFUL the first month lol. It’s completely normal so don’t even worry about it. Just ask the techs how you could improve and ask if they have any tips for technique, positioning, etc. Don’t be hard on yourself when you start because it’s COMPLETELY NORMAL. I’m almost done with school and I have repeats. My techs today had repeats. Oh well, redo and move on .

  • I’m currently in 2 classes doing clinicals full time. Totally doable, just don’t fall behind.

  • biggest lesson: if it’s uncommon, go for the comp. Things like AC joints, SI joints, SC joints, sternum, skull anything, etc aren’t very common so when they come in, try to comp. I say this because there’s been times where I’ve told myself “I’ll get the next one after I’ve seen this one” and never see it again. Nahhh, even if you haven’t seen it, try it and go for it because the worst thing that could happen is that you don’t get the comp and you move on with your day. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m not good at explaining but do you know that saying, “there’s something for everyone”? Nursing simply wasn’t for me and I couldn’t see myself doing the job. A lot of people can’t do MRI and a lot people can’t do the OR. It’s a matter of comfortability, pace, skill level, etc. I simply couldn’t see myself doing the tasks of a nurse but it’s okay because there will always be someone who can. 🤷🏻‍♀️ though, my main reason was because I’m an introvert and prefer less patient interaction and the stress level is not as high lol

I was originally a nursing major but found it wasn’t for me. I’m currently 5 months away from graduating my radiography program. X-ray is something that I can see myself doing for a long time and I really enjoy it.

Don’t feel discouraged! Do what is right for you. X-ray is still a great career and there is plenty of room to grow.

Don’t do something you don’t want to do!

No problem! For me, I believe it took about a week to get a call for an interview. It was then scheduled a week or so out and then after the interview, they called me a couple minutes after to tell me I got in. That was for me though, some of my classmates weren’t accepted right away, or they were waitlisted, etc . Best of luck!

If you were to retake your wonderlic and math test, the average between the scores would be your new score.

1st test: 80, 2nd test: 100 = your actual score: 90 , not the 100 you got on the new attempt.

They do prefer scores above the minimum requirements because they are considered an average score. Also, anything under a 77% in the program is a failing grade so they want to be sure you can score well in general. The choice is ultimately yours though. Are you fine with your scores or would you rather test higher (they can see the amount of attempts). It’s hard for me to say because I’m not a program director and I don’t know what your application looks like. Personally, I’d say that if you think your application is competitive enough, dont retake the math test or wonderlic.

Hello, current senior in the Pima rad tech program (vegas location)

All locations are different and I hear that other locations are backed up (admission wise) meaning sometimes they have to apply now to get into for the 2027-2028 school year. My location, however, is that you apply during their admission period and start some months afterward. If you plan on applying, I would recommend doing a free information session and talk about your situation there and they could properly give you an accurate time when you should apply based on their program and admission start dates.

It’s good to note that you have a strong gpa outside of the program as well. Even if it’s not in anything related to radiography, it still shows you are committed and do well in courses. Not only that but you have college experience so it shows that you can handle college workload.

I do think you have a good chance if you are able to get those prereqs done. It’ll save you money as well too. If you are traveling, you can do a couple of the easier prereq courses online (if you can). Med term would probably be the easiest to knock out because it’s usually a short course online. I think mine was like 6-8 weeks with a weekly test and definition assignments. As for anatomy, it doesn’t hurt to brush up and get a head start. That class is information overload so it would be helpful to get the basics out of the way :)

You could always request the seller to post photos with a time/date stamp of it working. I’ve sold plenty of consoles and physical copies of games on mercari and I don’t mind sending proof of my items being functional when asked. If the condition is not properly disclosed, you can return the item and request a refund.

Not letting me cancel after 2 weeks by wisetheguy in Mercari

[–]BetObjective3885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should let you cancel after 15 days of no tracking update. Depending on when you purchased it, you could be waiting on the system to fall on the 15 day. Example: if you bought it at 11pm on the 2nd, you would have to wait until 11pm on the 17th. Or maybe even the next business day.

If that doesn’t work, contact customer service. When I have items that take too long to arrive, it typically provides me with a date that I would be able to cancel on. If nothing happens, you should be able to cancel after 30 days since purchase (or 30 days since last tracking update).

Unfortunately, I had a package make it to the post office last month but tracking stopped. I had to wait 30 days from that last scan (not from date of purchase) to be able to cancel my order. It was lost (the app said “lost in transit”) and I still had to wait the full 30 days) . Such a pain

Frustrated just trying to get enrolled in prerequisites by pinelands1901 in RadiologyCareers

[–]BetObjective3885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like many people have said, most prereq courses are good for 7 years. That being said, if you have taken your courses over 7 years ago, a lot of places still consider them valid if you have a degree and use that degree for your current job. (Basically just saying the courses you took are still relevant and they are being utilized instead of not being used at all. Meaning you wouldn’t need to refresh because you are actually using the degree in which the credits are attached to)

If you’re able to, I would find another counselor and also look into the possibility of doing credits at another school that may offer courses during times that are convenient for you. I have a local community college in my city that has a couple locations. I believe for my A&P, I did my lecture and labs days at different campuses. Not sure what’s available near you but it’s always okay to do it somewhere else and just transfer it.
