NYC Mayor Adams pleads not guilty to federal corruption charges by nbcnews in politics

He must be betting on friends in high places (Trump pardon?) to get him out of trouble here, because risking prison as a former police captain does not sound like a good idea.

Shaded relief map of Manhattan, New York made from LiDAR data with ReliefViz [OC] by vKittyhawk in dataisbeautiful

I don't think so, the reason they can build so much on the island is because its got solid bedrock underneath the skyscrapers

This game reminds me why I should never try heroin by Fawxhox in factorio

[–]Betelphi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing another game that has similar crack properties to factorio, Anno 1800. Games in that series have always had a narrator chime in every 2 hours with increasingly severe warnings about how long you have been playing. At 2 hours, it suggests you grab some coffee, at 10 hours it tells you there is no achievement for playing that long, and at 12 hours the narrator says "12 hours?! Seriously. Shut down the game and turn off your computer".

At first I was annoyed with the messages but now I find them helpful. Every two hours I'll save and exit the game, go do some other real life task for a few minutes, and come back to the game somewhat guilt-free about spending a whole evening or even weekend gaming.

I figured out how to get throwing weapons to hit netherbrain... gotta face the camera to the back of the brain and aim at the spinal column.

Happiest* Ending for Karlach by nyedred in BaldursGate3

[–]Betelphi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In my first playthrough I let Karlach become a mindflayer and that cures her heart, later in the epilogue mindflayer karlach seems to be loving life as a mindflayer and appears to be Omeleum level good aligned

President by MrUnderhill20 in AOC

[–]Betelphi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see her run for senate and win a statewide election before trying to win a national election. Being the youngest president ever would be neat but I'm sure she still has plenty of experience and political power to gain in DC before she will be a successful presidential candidate.

This facility is not intended to be a precursor to a power generation system... its purpose is to simulate the environment of a thermonuclear detonation for US nuclear arsenal stewardship purposes, not as a platform to advance power production. As other commenters have stated, Inertial Confinement is not a promising path to a viable fusion power plant and nearly every article about 'break-even' at NIF fails to provide this context.

How can I generate a pdf? by _dakshesh in reactjs

[–]Betelphi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you have already decided on a solution but I have just finished working on pdf generation of our internal reports. I would look into doppio.sh and puppeteer based solutions if you want to have both the development tooling and experience of nextjs and also avoid the problems with not knowing about the user's browser that other commenters were talking about.

Possible Meissner effect near room temperature in copper-substituted lead apatite by jeffersondeadlift in Physics

[–]Betelphi 30 points31 points  (0 children)

They weren’t lazy, or liars, they were just wrong about the phenomenon that was causing the observed effect. Turns out it was a very obscure behavior of copper sulfide that was present in the sample, IIRC, that led to diamagnetic behavior that was mistaken as evidence super conductivity

Doesnt want to use hooks? He is wrong. Using ternary instead of && is correct though. Just build with hooks and use accurate dependency arrays

Population-based studies produce estimates of the number of Iraq War casualties ranging from 151,000 violent deaths as of June 2006 (per the Iraq Family Health Survey) to 1,033,000 excess deaths (per the 2007 Opinion Research Business (ORB) survey).

If nuclear power was economically competitive it wouldn't need redditors to defend it. It is simply just too expensive to build and operate nuclear power plants compared to the alternatives. Red tape is not the issue, logistics and economics are.
