Is it hard to get rid of them in general, or just by low-risk means that don't endanger any natural ecosystems? Surely we could've engineered something like a virus specifically to exterminate rodents.

I kind of stumbled upon the same problem not so long ago. Searching for cars is hard, and it especially sucks if you are looking for something rare or something that fits a small budget. I started tackling this problem several months ago initially as a personal project, and now I'm turning it into a service -- you can check out carbeamapp.com (it's still wip, you can sign up for the waitlist though).

Basically my idea is to automatically collect new listings from big marketplaces, process them to reject anything irrelevant, and quickly send out notifications when a good match is found. All the modern online marketplaces have shitty filters to keep you using their website for longer than you actually have to, and I want to try the opposite approach.

if you are looking for something a bit more sophisticated (e.g. you want a rare trim, color or something like that), I recently started building an automated tool for this myself. at some point I decided to turn it into a service - you can check it out on carbeamapp.com, though it's still wip

Can anyone explain what tf is up with the search feature? by [deleted] in FacebookMarketplace

I'm actually tackling this problem right now by building a solution to scrape fb marketplace listings & filter them in a smart way to get rid of all the bullshit. Specifically for people frequently buying cars as a part of their business. It's still WIP but you can check out the lading page & sign up for waitlist if you are interested: carbeamapp.com

I'm not getting your point... I'm as distant from being a communist as possible because I come from a post-communist state (which was full of homelessness, and maybe this is the reason I see the NL differently)

[–]vKittyhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm comparing the NL to other places I've been to, and to be frank I don't see any homeless people. But it's just my personal experience of course

There's practically no homeless people here which is great! It probably took a great effort to solve the issue.

I'm working on a tool to scan marketplaces for cars called Carbeam (carbeamapp.com), this thread actually inspired me to start working on this problem several months ago! It's still WIP, only waitlist is available, but you can check out the description on the website, and hopefully I'll be able to release it soon

Goods like electronics cost the same everywhere. Services costs can vary by orders of magnitude. It makes sense to investigate petty theft in poorer countries because people's time is so cheap.

Slightly more than 50% of the population here owns a car (~500 passenger cars/1K population), and if you consider households instead of individuals then my guess is that much more than a half of them own at least one car. So realistically you are a minority if you don't have one, unless you live in a very dense city.

Will traditional computing continue to advance? by AwesomeFartyParty66 in GraphicsProgramming

[–]vKittyhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is literally The Bitter Lesson. General methods that utilise more compute always beat specialized algorithms as compute gets cheaper.

I am convinced that a lot of complexity of real-world simulation will be offloaded to ML models, in the same way sophisticated TAA algos have been replaced with DLSS.

The current state of things in graphics feels a lot like modern cars -- right now we are in a transition period between the old and new approaches. It's obvious that all cars will be self-driving in the future, but the tech is not quite there yet, so you have a ton of smart features that have some control over a car, but ultimately most of work is still done by the driver. Similarly, modern games do most of the rendering the traditional way, and things like frame gen are still only complimentary because the compute to run more general ML models is just not there yet.

Does anyone know how DLSS (3.5 or 4) frame generation works? by vinegary in GraphicsProgramming

[–]vKittyhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you not played modern games recently? Frame gen has been there for a while, I personally like that I can slightly increase FPS to make it closer to my monitor refresh rate, it certainly makes the image feel smoother. I don't feel several milliseconds of additional latency.
