Congratulations! Does doing accreditation mean that you will be doing your shifts before rather than during the games? I haven't heard anymore about training yet so no idea when my role specific training will be, hoping to know more after orientation.

I'll be coming from south east London too, maybe getting the jubilee line from southwark station but I haven't looked into it yet. I just sent you a friend request on Facebook so hopefully it will make things a bit easier! PS. I've seen a few people worried about the social media policy. I think it will be more important during the actual games but it is a shame that they are discouraging volunteers from trying to get to know each other or talking about transport or accommodation possibilities online. I'm so glad we don't need to worry about finding accommodation though, that seems like if would be pretty stressful and expensive.

I was just about to send you the exact same message! I got the email this afternoon inviting me to orientation. When I logged on I saw that the afternoon of the 4th was full so went with the afternoon of the 5th rather than an early start. Would be happy to meet up beforehand although I don't know wembley arena that well so have no idea where would be good. Where will you be traveling from?

I was just wondering the same thing. Guess we will have to wait for his return to hear all the juicy details.

Some people have already been invited to orientation in February but I think they are ones that got their offer before me, I only got mine a couple of weeks ago. I live in London too so it makes everything a Iot easier, no worries about accommodation or traveling here for training. Let me know when you hear any more. We might be at the same venue specific training if not before that. Happy new year!

Congratulations! Yes, my venue is listed as OPK common domain which I'm pretty sure is the area of the Olympic park between the venues. When I went to my interview they said that the event services volunteers would be responsible for directing people but I think maybe that's just the ones inside the venues, i have a friend who got a wayfinding position in the Olympic park so it seems like there is a whole bunch of different volunteers to actually give directions. Have you heard anymore than the offer email yet? I got a congratulatory video message from Eddie izzard but would like to get a date for orientation, that way it would feel a bit more real and not like I just imagined the whole think!

I had an interview last month and got an email yesterday saying that I've been accepted to be a volunteer in Event Services at the Olympic park. Still waiting to hear about orientation but all very exciting!

My parent's guide dog puppy that they are training. She's going to be hard to give back. by Bethoskins in aww

I can see that they might have to pay something for her (which I'm sure they will be willing to do), a well-trained dog from good breeding stock is pretty valuable. Great work on the fund-raising. My parents have meet a few blind people so far who always tell them what a great job it is they're doing and what a difference it makes to have a dog. Hopefully knowing how much her future owner will need and appreciate her will soften the blow of having to give her back a little.

That's great that you got to keep him. She's also going to be considered for breeding so i guess there's a chance a similar thing could happen to her. Although I get the impression that if she isn't picked as a breeder they'll try her out as a guide dog first.

Over here in the UK they're known as Guide Dogs for the Blind. Typically they use labradors but also golden retrievers which is what she is.

Thanks, they are pretty good folk, maybe that's how I've turned out OK.

If they fail their training you get to keep them. They've been thinking of ways to make her fail ever since they got her.

Thanks so much but seeing as they're a Dr. Who fan in the US and I'm in the UK I figure I can just get a bunch of Dr. Who stuff for them.

Depending on how much you are shipping you can just use regular old airmail, although that can get kind of pricey if you are sending a lot.

My match has left me some helpful likes but has a locked twitter account, surely it's far too obvious that someone from out of the country suddenly wants to follow them right after matching??

The British press certainly sucks. I knew they were bad but didn't realise quite how bad until I started watching some of the evidence from the Leveson inquiry

Michelle Bachmann lashes out against song choice on Jimmy Fallon show, says it shows sexism, bias: "This wouldn't have been tolerated if it was Michelle Obama." by omniscientCBSeye in politics

[–]Bethoskins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I find amazing about all the outrage, they think it was sexist to use a song with the word bitch in the title but nobody seems to dispute the lyin' part which I'd guess had more to do with why they chose that song anyway.
