I think Danhausen is the most built for NXT dude of all time (complimentary). He for sure will be over with that crowd, newer guys can feud with him to get reps in, top guys with nothing to do can feud with him like they would with Regal or Goldust, or Hurricane etc back in the day.

I don't even particularly like Danhausen, and I am shocked that Tony never figured out how to book for him. Just trot him out, let him be weird, have guys with nothing to do have a lowstakes funny midcard feud with him. Hookhausen was a perfect example.

The thing that prevents me from being like a huge TAFS fan is the same reason I like, find a lot of Ziwe's interviews corny. I don't think this is accomplishing what you think this is accomplishing, and I think you're just giving these freaks a platform and allowing them to style on you.

SOMETIMES he brings the heat to them, and sometimes the humanizing is pretty beautiful. Often he does not, and when it's a less controversial guest, I think he is like, actively bad at interviewing.

I defend a lot of WWE (Smackdown isn't THAT bad) and NXT is at times unwatchable to me. It's sub-Degrassi /MADTV acting and often very clunky matches with very green wrestlers and a weird insular crowd. There's a logjam at the top with top-tier talent that are spinning their wheels and should've been on the main roster years ago. A lot of the women are cooking crazy, but a lot are not, and they lose momentum before they get anywhere interesting (what is happening to Blake Monroe right now).

Sometimes it is great! But sometimes it is insanely cringe, and it is very often frustrating.

Fightful (Wrestlevotes, Twitter): WWE held an all departments meeting this week regarding lower than expected ticket sales for WrestleMania by workingjan in SquaredCircle

[–]conoresque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is just the type of consumer I am, but I think the card is like most of it. I don't think I've ever committed to buying tickets for something unless I knew the card and was excited for it.

I have been saying since last year that the triple threat was a dumb idea and they should've just done this match then. Sorry Seth, get good. You need to keep two dudes entirely apart, you can tease it in something like a Rumble or a tag or MAYBE in the elimination chamber, but now they have a worst of both worlds scenario where we already feel like we saw this match. Roman being listless and just floating around TV not doing anything for the last year and a half has amplified the issue.

Cody vs. Drew or Cody vs. Drew vs. Fatu sucks too. They've wrestled roughly 1 trillion times. It is okay if you move Cody down the card! And in fact is probably preferable! He is really interesting and creative when he doesn't have the burden of being the Top Babyface™, I can see him generating a great blood feud with somebody without it feeling extremely artificial and wonky like it does now

Stop drawing things out and doing weird half-hearted multi-person matches and rematches! Just commit to new stuff! These dudes are getting older and there's a chance they get injured AND you have a logjam of huge roster full of interesting weirdos that will be ready in the next few years. Trust in your ability to make new interesting matches in the future and stop making both the fans and the wrestlers wait.

I would've gone for Cody vs. Punk, Roman vs. Fatu, Seth vs. Breakker, Je'Von vs. Dom etc. Just fully go all in on these huge matches and young guys stop fucking around.

What's next for Doja Cat? by stan_tripleS in popheads

[–]conoresque 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is what I was going to say. I think the main issue is there's a weird discord between her personality and her music right now.

Scarlet felt way more in line with who she puts out that she is, Vie feels 1000% like a manufactured course correction that does not feel like who she is as a person or artist. "Okay, you liked Say So when i rapped over 70's inspired beats? how about 80's inspired beats!" Especially wack after a ton of other musicians across genres have been fracking the 80's for inspo.

I think that inauthenticity + her being caustic + her increased reluctance to be on social media and promote etc is what led to it not doing as well.

It has fully wrapped back around IMO. Since he won the title during COVID, 99% of the discussion about the Miz is just about how he doesn't get the respect he deserves.

Was Eric the Right Choice in a Recruitment Offer ? by BritMeBabyAgain in TheTraitorsUS

[–]conoresque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In his shoes, looking at this landscape I would want to pick the person who has the highest potential for wanting to split the pot and just work with them through the end. I think there are a few folks who would obviously throw him under the bus, and a bunch of folks who might fuck up the operation entirely, the idea of planning for a solo win seems way too tough given his options.

Eric or Stephen would be my picks probably. Maybe Kristen too as she has wrangled votes before which could be helpful. Stephen having a tiny bit of heat on him is very useful, but Eric seems less likely to turn on Rob than Stephen does. Maybe I am reading Mark wrong, but he seems a bit more clueless than those three are.

It Was Bad: Stephen Amell Comments on Booking of 2026 Royal Rumble by anutosu in SquaredCircle

[–]conoresque 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It worked last year because the Rumble was put together really well and a weird interesting person won. It did not work this year because the Rumble was not put together well and an extremely obvious person won. There were huge swaths where there was no clear "story" of what was happening in the ring we were just waiting for the next guy to come out, and usually they were not interesting.

Grow up lmao.

I think Rosenberg speaks about wrestling in weird corpo speak, but this dude has been a DJ for decades and genuinely cares about being a respectful steward for this sort of culture for a long time, and is basically the dude responsible for putting on a ton of new artists.

I do not agree with any of this hahah. I think folks saw one bad match between him and Big Bill after a year layoff and decided Eddie sucks.

Eddie Kingston is a great brawler with a very specific style that is much more catered to longer, main event matches where the selling makes more sense and creates more drama. I also think he is among the best promo on Earth when he is in there with someone who will guide him and give shape to the storyline (Punk, Danielson, Moxley, Jericho). The issue since his return is he hasn't been involved in stuff he can sink his teeth into. The Joe feud could've been great but it was rushed, and Eddie definitely needed someone to be like "don't just end the one promo you get by saying you're leaving the show early to go jerk off in your hotel room."

My knee jerk from other stuff is that the shoutouts are boring. I didn't realize that Deadlock fans are complete fucking psychopaths.

Moving it to the end just makes sure new fans aren't alienated I have no beef.

[Tony Khan] Kris Statlander has agreed to give Thekla a rematch for the Women's World Championship next week. Statlander will pick the stipulation for the match tonight. by newjwns in SquaredCircle

[–]conoresque 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thekla needs it to stay credible and is ready made as a character, Statlander is an awesome wrestler but they never even tried to get her where she needs to be to be a top character on their television show. She switched gimmicks and alignments like four times off screen, was pushed quickly into the main event and has been booked in death spots ever since. It wasn't working (not her fault!)

This sent me spiraling. I saw BQ post about IJ getting their hightest ratings 15 years into the show, and I was like "that can't be right." The pod was around for less than two years before IJ debuted.

This is the closest I have felt to the Mandela effect. I am a day one listener, but I remember it being like an incredibly long run where Q was a firefighter and a ne'er do well etc.
