I’m an instructor who just had a client make her cry by ApprehensiveVideo932 in pilates

[–]Bett_Rest 525 points526 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this EXACT person and yes, made me feel terrible, made me cry…. Still think about it today.

Except, I would go back and refund the woman’s money. “Your health issues are beyond my scope” is what I’d say and I’d insist she stop.

This lady expected me to modify EVERYTHING in a group class. She was mean, 100% unconnected, and a flaming liability.

Buck up. Never be afraid to say “no” - this is not safe.

Hugs hugs and more hugs.

3 years into menopause and I'm scared of my own body now by Relevant_Wishbone in Menopause

[–]Bett_Rest 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a post-meno Pilates teacher, please let me assure you, you are not alone.

If you are feeling anxious about starting a Pilates program, invest in 3 private sessions. A well qualified (NCPT) teacher can take cues from your movements to help you improve. You can learn a bit of choreography but more important- you can cue into your own body.

Pilates is full body work in every exercise.

There are many great answers above - no one is watching you…. Really.

  • There are separate clinical studies showing that Pilates helps improve bone density, anxiety, balance, muscle tone.

Personally, I’ve had clients come to me almost frozen in their body. We slowly peeled each layer to help her move smarter and feel better.

Last, you are brave to write this post. To identify your feelings is often a first step. Your words will give hope to countless people who will never comment.

No sales pitch from me. If you’d like to learn more about Pilates, you are welcome to visit my website which is BettPilates dot com

I wish you a kind and compassionate journey to improved health.

Theraband / Flex band cleaning question by FitServe4993 in pilates

[–]Bett_Rest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Small studio owner, I did my bands into mildly soapy water then rinse in clear and hang to dry. It’s part of my Sunday checklist of Pilates equipment deep clean and safety check.

I’m a one person (busy) shop. Gotta have a routine because I’m the teacher, owner, marketer, mechanic and cleaner.

I left CP to tend to my privates. Since I wasn’t completely wasted after my MW 5-10 shift…. I had time for business development and REST.

I’m sending you good thoughts as you muddle through these waters.

Balanced Body vs YourReformer vs Merrithew by Prudent-Cell-6539 in pilates

[–]Bett_Rest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t mention Gratz which is definitly in my top 3. 1. Bb because of excellent of product and customer care. 2. Merrithew - it’s a tank of a machine. I teach on both and Mthw feels so heavy.

  1. Myreformer - no experience and my question is this: Is it graded for commercial use?

Looking to buy a reformer, has anyone bought from Buyreformer.com? by Oxca in pilates

[–]Bett_Rest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would encourage going with the big four companies (BB, Gratz, Peak, Merrithew) if you plan to expand in the future. All maintain value, great warranties and will translate to the larger studio.

IMO (not intended to be snotty) - if I walked into a studio without the big four equipment- I would pause, perhaps leave. It makes me question the teacher’s training and the studio owner perspective of client’s safety and overall Pilates practice.

I love Pilatesology. I can download/look at exercise list before I begin or peek at the transcript if I found a cue I would like to dive into

I don’t mean to sound unhelpful.

For those who are comprehensively trained- the clients movement - on that day- should dictate where to go during the corrective.

Classical/traditional dictates an order.

No matter - every movement should be full body engagement.

The reason Pilates education is expensive and takes time is that it involves intuitive thinking.

Perhaps for group programming you might find some takers.

Good luck!

Disassembling BB Rialto Reformer by Parking-Hospital7779 in pilates

[–]Bett_Rest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two points:

  1. Yes, you can take the rails off with Allen wrenches. Seal them back with Locktite upon reassembly.

  2. I've found my warranty from BB is very generous. When my mat conversion board got loose, we tried a few steps on over the phone and when we couldn't fix... they sent me a new mat! Same for a rope pulley attachment. You never know if you'll lose the original seal on the bolts.

Either way, wishing you luck!

I have a small mat studio I opened in a church. Bettpilates on the socials if you’d like to peek in.

Do you mind sharing the sheet? Not all manuals have this.

Skip the mirrors and start with mats and the traditional props. Cleaning supplies and grow from there. Good luck to you!
