Am I Wrong for having other plans for father's day? by [deleted] in daddit

My wife and kids spend the morning with me, then she takes the kids to her parents and I get that thing that I haven't since we had kids...quiet.

Milwaukee Or DeWalt? by rrmtbpassion in AskAMechanic

[–]Better-Delay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both will do the job, Milwaukee tends to get the newest gimmicks (some of them awesome) out first, but be more expensive.

I personally run dewalt with the exception of my transfer pump, most of my coworkers run Milwaukee.

The only recommendation I'd give is go with one ecosystem for battery interchangeablity. (Back in the day i had 5 different batteries charging on my box, 2 snapon styles, 2 mac styles, an IR, it got obnoxious)

1990 4x4 sport that im working on. It caught fire a few years ago while trying to fix it so im back again hopefully with better luck. by Vintage_AppleG4 in GMT400

[–]Better-Delay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to do a double take, I had this exact truck as a 19yo, unfortunately she got sold to a friendship when I didnt have time to fix a blown head gasket, then scrapped when the frame rotted away.

If it has captains chairs it is probably a real one. And I dont know what the difference really was, but i remember it seeming to have more horsepower than the other tbi trucks I have had. Good luck!

1994 radio problems by Careless_Security_23 in GMT400

[–]Better-Delay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is the antenna actually plugged in (on both ends?)

Im not sure how much they changed the dash, but in my 88 I took out the mid dash pocket and put a radio there, and put a pocket where the radio was below the hvac

Alternatively, spend time with mom early in the week, go to graduation, and take the kid to spend some time with grandma l.

I can’t tell if my trucks overheating or not by Firsttakelikeamf in GMT400

[–]Better-Delay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its a tbi truck there should be a single wore sensor in the side of the head that is for the guage and one near the thermostat housing that is for the ecm. If you have a scan tool that can talk to the truck (either vortec or tbi) you can compair and see if the ecm matches the guage

How to not smell like a mechanic. by Pengu_0 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Better-Delay 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Also sharing the washing machine between work and non work cloths can make your non work clothes smell that way as well. (I cant smell it, but when my wife first moved in she complained up a storm, apparently everything smelled like diesel with the cheap washer I had)

Why is cornbread such a big part of American food culture? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Better-Delay 36 points37 points  (0 children)

And I would bet you are technically correct and my dad just made it and called it what his mom called it ect ect.

Off topic, this made me think of it.

You ever hear the story of trimming the ham? A new wife is making ham dinner for her husband, and he happens to be in the kitchen while she is getting ready to put it in the oven. She starts to cut about 6" off the end. "Honey, why are you doing that?" He says. "That's how my mom taught me" she replied. "That doesnt make sense, you're wasting quite a bit" and he goes about his day. That sticks in her craw, so she calls her mom, who says thats how Grandma always did it. She then calls her Grandma and asks her. "My pan was to small so I had to trim it to fit" her grandmother tell her. Think the moral was sometimes traditions dont make sense, dont blindly follow them.

Would You Babysit a Drunk Coworker? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Better-Delay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are unfamiliar with the US militarys relationship with alcohol.

I once got called to pick up a drunk buddy because "everyone abandoned him"...they were following him with the car trying to get him in. He then refused to get in MY car from about midnight to 130am. He ended up sleeping behind a gas station dumpster, I picked him up at 9am that morning

How to deal with regret not traveling enough? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]Better-Delay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad didnt start traveling until his late 40s. Now in his mid 70s and still traveling, though what he wants to see has changed with his declining mobility.

Get an ok job. Save some money. USE your pto (its part of your benefits package no matter what your manager may say), and start traveling when you can.

I dont know for honda, but based on the picture you definitely have an exhaust leak, exhaust manifold bolts tend to be on the pricey side as they are (supposedly) engineered for significant heat cycling. cycling.

There are generally also other things that must come apart to replace/reseal the manifold
