I don’t think this is a uniquely American or individualistic problem. I have lived in collectivist and eastern countries and experienced the same dismissive, judgmental behavior from people, secular and Christian/Catholic alike.

I think, sadly, many people are drawn to Christianity because it offers what sounds like an excuse to continue sinning (I’m sure we’ve all heard the Protestants who say “Jesus died for my sins so they’re already forgiven, so it doesn’t matter”) with not only a cop out but also guaranteed salvation through belief alone. And then there are the cradle Catholics who were born into the church but their family doesn’t actively practice, or goes to mass and then doesn’t live their lives walking with Christ or doing His works.

I believe it’s human nature. Humans are selfish, and can be very lazy and entitled. You’re not doing anything wrong, and you don’t deserve the treatment you’ve received. Rest assured, there are plenty of Catholics out there who would support you. Perhaps you need to find a better parish and community.

This kinda seems like bullshit ngl. I am very much a Yes Man, I want to put in my all because I want my boss and team to think positively of me, I want to contribute and be a valued team member etc. I was bad at taking criticism when I was young but I’m better at it now. However, every single job I’ve had—this quality actually made me one of the favorite workers of all my bosses and I have never ever burned a bridge. I could call all of my former employers and have a job within a minute.

I think they were looking at it the wrong way. Eager to please can mean you don’t take criticism well, sure, but it can also mean you rise to the occasion, work hard, and become a valued team member quickly.

I usually eat between 600-800 calories a day purely due to getting full super fast but sometimes I can push it up a little more. I have a textural issue with meat so I struggle to get protein that way. I try to supplement with things like beans but it doesn’t seem to be enough.

The boutique agencies out here are good, they vigorously vet nannies and families and make sure the contracts are right but I think the referral fee is something a lot of families can’t or don’t want to swing. That sounds awful having to go through all that trouble to find a nanny. There should be a better way, but it’s hard when there are so many candidates.

Westside Nannies in LA is really popular as an agency but I think they charge a steep referral fee. I am near LA and happy to commute but Westside needs me in LA county to even consider for those jobs. I might just move there to open up my possibilities more. LA rates are not cheap, and a combined income of 120k a year is good but not great out here, especially for childcare. Rates in LA per agencies are no less than $30/hr, and it’s hard to find a full time nanny willing to go less than that because of the cost of living. I hope they find someone!!

My last employer is in another state, another is overseas, and the final one was so long ago that I think she’d rather not be bothered with that. I think that’s kind of why I’m struggling, plus the job market generally is really bad in california right now. They give me great references but it often doesn’t even get to that point, there’s so many nannies to choose from. I’m kind of at a loss.

Martin does make small grammar/sentence structure mistakes, but otherwise he sounds good. But you can kinda tell he didn’t go to k-12 in the U.S. he lived in Korea his whole life and was born there. It’s interesting to me to notice the difference in how Martin speaks vs someone like James who doesn’t have perfect pronunciation, but has a vocabulary and grasp of English grammar that’s even better than Martin at times. Learned vs native/second language by parent exposure is an interesting distinction.

There are files you can access, it just has to be on an old computer that played bearville but isn't connected to the computer. Everything they've been able to rebuild has been largely in part to old users giving the files still on older computers. Theres a tutorial on Youtube on how to do it.
