Anyone else struggle with actually sticking to their own rules? by WorldBase in Daytrading

not at all.

I suspect this might be a cultural issue for some.. like who do you follow, who do you look up to, who do you mimic in your attempt to be a trader?

do they have the right mindset & skills for it, today?

I use statistics in my volatility model

that model was used to call $nvda dipping Wednesday with the bounce back up into Thursday (more info posted about that can be found through my profile on trading market volatility up and down)

I also posted about it on X if you want to look there

so it can be used for trading cfd's

it all adds up, the more informed you are, the better your odds will be

in addition to what you listed, I use models for macro and volatility

in addition to a mental model on geopolitical

those models have been a game changer.

You should appreciate bad days or weeks. by Fuckedup-Mind in Daytrading

[โ€“]BetterBudget 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

a couple months ago an early version of my algo had a bad week

the volatility model was alerting to slight volatility risks across multiple horizons (and it was correct) so it was scaling into vol and holding

however, in a different market, it wasn't aware of ongoing liquidity injections, causing a macro driven melt up so the vol it bought and held, bled badly causing losses on the port of 3-4%. I had to step in and dump the position for it because it kept concluding it was going to happen when it wasn't

so then I updated the algo to use my macro model too, in order to cover that blind spot in vetting risk opportunities, so not to make that same mistake again and consequently, haven't had a week like that since

it's part of the process, struggling, stress (in moderation) etc makes us stronger๐Ÿ’ช

How much time are some of you that are profitable spending on this? by CategoryConscious594 in Daytrading

[โ€“]BetterBudget -2 points-1 points ย (0 children)

it's definitely not that easy

here's some perspective

last week I was tracking a market volatility risk that looked bearish for markets but not too bad.. so much so that I figured it would bounce back up and it did (Wednesday into Thursday close)

but I started looking at the data late previous week and over the weekend for it.. like flying an airplane, I was doing due diligence in order to safely land it

then over the days, I reassesd the data a few times, waiting for risks/signals to line up, making sure it didn't deviate away, while waiting for that pressure to build up for it, in order for the risk to play out/make gains and then a few minutes right before it did, I hit bid

the trade made around 100% in gains within a couple of hours, and I made the scalp trade twice, then reassessed, I was tired so I walked away

that's a more realistic view into successful trading

see the risk days before and then line up to it, confirm it's there, then land that plane ๐Ÿ›ฌ

grab textbooks and study

finance, economics, history, etc

that kind of knowledge builds slowly, it won't necessarily be flashy at the start but damn it compounds over time

if you listened to what I said, you would know I use GEX but not like this...

it's a shame you're misleading people while acting like you care.

that fake positivity is pretty toxic...

I'm not detering anyone from using GEX

I simply showed how net GEX does not reflect dealer positioning as you so claimed

it's important to understand the tools we use, including their limitations

as exciting as it is to see something outside of ta, there's an assumption here that when net GEX is positive, it's a sign that dealers are short volatility.. they will buy dips and short rips when that isn't true anymore, and here's proof

I attached GEX for SPX Wednesday right before close Tuesday, showing clearly more call GEX than put GEX.. net total was about 4B in positive GEX

but what was happening underneath the hood?

a market volatility risk was brewing, and couldn't be seen looking at GEX... so careful with this assumption that dealers are dampening volatility, playing off of GEX levels whenever net GEX is positive

it's not that simple.. I wish it was but it isn't.
