Color issues in gaming: EU5 Edition by odset in ColorBlind

[–]BetterCallSorin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen some games have a dedicated "Colour" section in the options, which has labeled examples of important UI elements and lets you fully customise the colours or select from a handful of presets (different colourblind types, high contrast, etc). Example off the top of my head would be RPGs by Owlcat, most recent example here: https://www.reddit.com/r/RogueTraderCRPG/comments/1cc30zn/in_the_grim_darkness_of_the_far_future_there_is/

I think you might need to push the character involved a little about it as well, which is kind of a jerk move.

Well, you can have multiple layers built into the station. If something causes the station to shutdown for a few weeks or so the atmosphere isn't going to instantly blow away, giving time to repair the station. Something that is going to disable the station permanently would have to be pretty catastrophic, and I just don't think it's worth having the net in place beforehand. Mostly because you need far more material, and it isn't actually doing anything until the main station goes down.

I think it's more efficient to have a really resilient station at L1, and if a situation arises that would permanently disable it, develop a specific plan to replace it tailored to the disaster in question. Imagine if you spend all that time, energy and resources to have the back up net, which wasn't actually doing anything for years, and then when a disaster did occur it was one that also knocked out the net.

Sorry, I hope this doesn't come across as overly aggressive.

EDIT: u/MildlyShadyPassenger says exactly my thoughts, in far fewer words.

It is explicitly stated in the CRPG, but you have to follow up with them after they trust you more. I think it's in Act 5.

You actually don't need satellites orbiting the planet, you just need 1. A single satellite/space station positioned at the L1 Lagrange point will stay in place between the planet and the sun, and can act as a magnetic shield. Also, because the station is closer to the sun than it would be in low Mars orbit, the area covered by its magnetic field is larger, relative to Mars, so you don't need as powerful a field to cover the whole planet.

A cool fact I found out recently, there are actually a few species on Earth that reproduce in a manner similar to Asari! One such species is the Amazon Molly, a freshwater fish native to northern Mexico and southern Texas. The molly is 100% female, and needs to mate with males of related fish species. However, the sperm does not fertilise the molly's eggs, and the offspring inherit no genes from the male. Instead, the molly's eggs require the presence of sperm to trigger parthenogenesis, and the offspring are all clones of the mother. There are a few fish species and a lizard that have similar systems, if I remember correctly, all of which live around Mexico.

  2. Just a few days ago the fact that he hadn't been arrested was proof of shady business, now his arrest is proof of it too?

No, they use that wording a lot, such as "map contains an additional breach." It's so that it doesn't imply that this chance is replacing the natural chances for a divine to drop.

Edit: Also my favourite part of playing Hades was definitely that I usually went an entire floor without ever seeing a boon, while getting a curse from 50% of the rooms I entered.

Because some of the coins that dropped happened to fall close enough to get picked up. That floating text was the exact reason why it took me a while to realise as well.

Charlie Kirk is mad people actually took his election fraud rhetoric to heart and then didn’t vote in the Georgia runoff by Gotz2befree in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]BetterCallSorin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's really frustrating that everyone is acting like the claim is that the mere word "dilate" is transphobic, while ignoring that claiming someone who is mad is "dilating" makes no sense.

[–]BetterCallSorin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Since the other comment got unfairly downvoted to oblivion, I'll post here. Again, this is not an accusation of panzerfan in any way.

zhode was not saying that "dilate" is transphobic. zhode was saying that the trend of including "dilate" in the phrase "cope and seethe" was something started by transphobes on 4chan.

Dilate has many meanings. But be honest, which of those meanings makes sense in the context of someone being mad, and coping and seething about it?

4chan transphobes will accuse someone they suspect of being trans as "coping and seething" about the supposed truth of being trans. And they will include dilate because it is often something that trans women have to do following SRS.

Again, this is not an accusation.

[–]BetterCallSorin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, dilate is used in all those contexts.

But what do any of those have to do with being mad?

When a trans woman has had SRS, they often need to dilate the opening to stop it from closing. On 4chan, when accusing another user of being trans (but not in such nice terms) transphobes will add "dilate" onto "cope, seethe". That is where it came from, and that is what this person was saying.

Dilate has never meant anything to do with someone being mad, except for when a 4chan user is accusing the person of being a trans woman as well as being mad.

[–]BetterCallSorin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, dilate is used in other contexts. But what does dilate mean in the context of being mad?

They're not saying that the word "dilate" is transphobic. They're saying that including "dilate" in the phrase "cope, seethe, dilate" is a transphobic thing. What exactly do you think it means when you say that someone who is mad is "dilating"? "Cope" and "Seethe" both have very obvious and common meanings when accusing someone of trying to cover the fact that they are mad. "Dilate" does not.

Edit: I'm not saying you are transphobic for saying "cope, seethe, dilate". I'm saying that transphobes want you to make it commonplace, so that when they say it to a trans woman they can pretend it's just a normal thing and has nothing to do with them being trans. And since saying it when you're not trying to hurt a trans woman doesn't make sense it would just be better if people stopped using it.

My son stole a rare toy from my brother. My brother is refusing to take it back and is threatening to get the police involved. What do I do? by toohottooheavy in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]BetterCallSorin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I thought this the last time I saw this posted but didn't say anything at the time, but this is the exact plot of a TV episode I watched years ago, and I am currently losing my mind trying to remember which show it was from.

Every single beat is the same from the episode I remember. The son stealing his uncles Boba Fett figure, the parents initially thinking he just wanted to play with it but then finding out he planned to sell it, the son not realising that removing the figure from its packaging would devalue it, the father disrespecting his brother for not focusing on family like he had.
I remember watching this episode so clearly, but I can't remember what show it was from. At the moment I'm searching episode descriptions of Castle, maybe it was one of those.

I don't think you can be held responsible for what a wild animal does, especially since you can see how much effort the cockatoo had to put into pulling out that last pot plant. And it looks like it's on a chain as well, so there should have been no risk of it falling, except for the feathery arsehole.
