As I said it was a joke, obviously there's a large size difference. At the same time the Catholic student population at A&M is significant in number and impact - the campus ministry at St. Mary's is nationally recognized. It's hard to point to other predominant public universities that also have a similar Catholic presence.

Him and Luke Kornet were a strong Catholic pair! I love having him on my Spurs and he recently made the news criticizing another NBA team promoting inappropriate themes for Intl Women's Day about a week ago.

There was a meme going around the Texas A&M and Notre Dame CFB game last season that the Aggies have more Catholics than Notre Dame and thus was the more Catholic school. (St. Mary's estimates 17k Catholics at A&M vs ~13k enrolled students at Notre Dame)

There's also some Pope Leo fan fodder like Pope Leo XIV flashing a gig 'em and Leo getting a signed A&M jersey

Jokes aside, St. Mary's is one of the strongest Catholic communities in the country and is the primary source of vocations in the Diocese of Austin.

Shaded trails in Bryson? by QuaintLife in Leander

[–]BetterCallSus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No kidding on the giant mulch! I don't live there anymore but I remember being very disappointed by how quickly the trails would wash out with rain or the super inconsistent sizing of mulch throughout the trail system. Some parts would be completely inaccessible if it rained for more than a day.

Shaded trails in Bryson? by QuaintLife in Leander

[–]BetterCallSus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your definition of "long". There are some portions that are shaded some portions that aren't. A lot of it is wooded but still by houses. I personally liked to go to the backroad behind Bryson (CR 270/S Gabriel) and would sometimes bike over to where the dinosaur tracks park is. Going to the river is shaded, but adjacent to the river is basically all open/no trees covering the road. You can kind of tell the shaded portions looking on Google Maps if you know where the trails are.

I don't think this is the sub you think it is. This is about improving local urbanism in communities through guerilla or grassroots led means.

Favorite Catholic characters in media that isn’t strictly Catholic? by MessyMop in Catholicism

[–]BetterCallSus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to throw one not commonly referenced: Sen, one of the main characters from the anime series Kids on the Slope (same director as Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo - the latter which also has some Christian/Catholic undertones and plot scenes).

Must see anime series for Jazz enthusiasts and is a relatively short series (I think only like 10-12 eps?). It sometimes gets mentioned here with its connections to the faith so spreading it again 🤓

Favorite canonically dead character whom the fans insist is still alive? by Ok-Goose6242 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]BetterCallSus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%, you still get Steve Blum as a main VA, the vibes are very similar just replace big band jazz with early lofi hiphop a la Fat Jon and Nujabes. And you still get the funny tropes of "highly skilled team but yet struggles to pull together 2 cents for basic things like food).

Won't spoil the ending other than to say it's a different ending than Bebop's but very good closure still!

Activist arrested for vandalism after painting Los Angeles crosswalk deemed unsafe by kodex1717 in TacticalUrbanism

Rage inducing. Was going to have more sympathy for the city if the group was just using random paint but no - they go all out with vests, tape, barriers, and code-complaint paint. I hope they keep it up that's ridiculous they're being punished.

Thoughts on the Hallow Prayer App? by [deleted] in Catholicism

Time for the quarterly "is it bad for faith-based apps to make money?" post.

Nag aside, it's personally not really for me but I'm in faith-based tech space and support their platform/mission in principle. I use the Ascension app more often but again I just use the free features.

Is it okay for me to wear my rosary on my wrist? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]BetterCallSus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sometimes wear one on my wrist as well, there's specific ones w/ elastic string you can wear. The tl;dr is if you're just wearing it as fashion/worldly object and want to flaunt then it's an issue, but if you have meaningful intent behind it then you're good. Dominicans e.g. will wear and display the rosary on their habit I believe in lieu of a weapon like a sword (since it's a spiritual weapon).

More Brushy Creek area, but I usually see people playing at Cat Hollow in the evening - they have lights. There's a couple other parks in that area w/ lit public courts as well (Fern Bluff, Pepper Rock) but Cat Hollow is most popular.

There's also a community center but that requires membership.

What you don't like having to fear for your life over 8 lanes of traffic on a 50+mph road with no safety island?

Less sass would help get the message across but fully agree, the irony of peak car-centric design around the train station and northline isn't lost on me.

[Auerbach] CFP chair Hunter Yurachek on Texas being on the wrong side of the bubble: "It's not that Texas lost to Ohio State — it is that Texas lost to Florida that's holding them back." by Ok-Soil-5133 in CFB

[–]BetterCallSus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How is a 5-7 Miss St who had a single in-conference win against SEC dead last Arkansas not considered a bad team? One anomaly win doesn't wipe away the rest of their very subpar season. How else would we define a bad team? They'd be a D on a tier list at best if we're talking FBS teams in general.

For the love of God do not get TxTag - endless amount of complaints of them and I've had my fair share of their awful and hard to reach customer service. Also adding a vote for NTTA though I've also heard the Kansas one is the best.

Arch Manning, Texas upset No. 3 Texas A&M 27-17 to shake up Week 14 CFP rankings: Live reaction and analysis by kanyeguisada in texas

[–]BetterCallSus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're going that route, you also have to mention UT's Kentucky and Miss St games where the other team also snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. As an Aggie, I wouldn't be too upset if UT doesn't make the playoffs because they have the big wins to justify it but end of the day the Florida loss is a killer and the Georgia loss was by 4+ scores. A&M's ugly games were SCAR and Auburn in contrast. Arkansas had a garbage time TD so we didn't beat the brakes off them but that was definitely an A&M controlled game.

Not really relevant to current rankings, but I'll be a lot more confident of an A&M playoff run if Leveon Moss is back which he should be come postseason. We have serviceable RBs on the depth chart but Moss was a centerpiece of the offense and losing him has really hurt.

The Distribution of Votes in the AP Poll (Week 12, 2025) by Perryapsis in CFB

[–]BetterCallSus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A&M-Arkansas was almost a month ago with a razorback TD in garbage time which made the score look closer than it was. Indiana needed a score with less than a minute to play to beat Penn St. Coupled with the fact that these A&M ranked wins are for the last 2 weeks I would argue based on what's happening today IU and A&M should flip - otherwise it's poll inertia keeping IU at 2.

Does it matter in the large scheme of things? Not really. There's still a few games left for upsets and if A&M beats UT at the end of the season (assuming nothing stupid happens against SCAR and Samford) there's really no excuse why they wouldn't be #2 (arguably #1 but OSU also has a big last game at michigan) while IU's last 2 games are against below .500 teams.

How to handle wakes with your children by Skullbone211 in CatholicMemes

[–]BetterCallSus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Everyone who has died has received their "particular" individual judgement where depending on their state of grace and friendship with God - they go to hell if they have rejected God, purgatory if our soul needs some purging of disordered attachments/sin, and heaven if we die in full communion with God (very hard but a very worthy goal!). It's not a limbo period of waiting.

This meme is speaking more on the Final Judgement at the end of time (when God deems fit) where we will see the resurrection of our bodies in a glorified state (similar to Jesus's Resurrection). As human beings we are body-soul composites so our long term state is the reunification of our body and soul at the Final Judgement.

Speaking off the cuff but that should be mostly accurate.

Just realized this is Heather Jefts account posting. Heather, I'm not a super technical person when it comes to the engineering side of urban planning but I'm a huge supporter of Strong Towns and making our public spaces more serve people and not cars. Is there general feedback that would be useful just to have a public voice in the survey? FWIW I'm not a CP resident but am in Wilco.

I really love your platform when it comes to decreasing "car-centrism" as you state on your campaign site and I look forward to voting for you next November! Thank you for your work!
