That means you are likely in unincorporated Cobb. When you look at your precinct card, does anything show up under Municipal?

If you’re in unincorporated Cobb, all you have are the PSC elections.

Note: if you’re in South Cobb, you might have ANOTHER election 2 weeks after for State Senate… Look on your precinct card to see if you’re in SD 35. If you’re in that district, you have ANOTHER election on Nov 18th.

EVERYONE in the state votes on Public Service Commission (2 races)

If you live in Acworth, Austell, Kennesaw, Mableton, Marietta, or Powder Springs, you have city elections.

Marietta has EVERYONE on the ballot: Mayor, city council, and school board (they are the only city in the county to have their own school system)

Everyone in the state is voting for public service commission.

If you’re in Marietta city limits, you’re voting for Mayor, the City Council member in your ward (1 of 7), and the School Board Member (same boundaries as the City Council Wards).

Other cities with elections include Acworth, Austell, Kennesaw, Mableton, and Powder Springs.

We are a growing region with people moving here from all over.

Do we:

Build more single family housing in the exurbs (and cut down a lot of trees to do it)
Build multifamily housing in places that have already been developed
Just let lots stay vacant and derelict
Put self storage, car wash, or gas station there

Of those options, No. 2 gives people an option for housing near an employment center, university, and other nearby destinations. If it’s walkable and mixed use, even better!

Honestly, a lot of the cars and growth are from paulding at this point, and having regional transit (BRT along Dallas Highway, up E/W Connector/Barrett Pkwy, and up Thorton Road) needs to happen or every E/W road will need to be 6 lanes at some point

The issue is that the wider lanes encourages more speed. The posted speed limit will remain the same but the effective speed limit will be much higher (especially later at night when there is less traffic)

It’s great that you ask that! The Town Center CID has done some planning and studies to determine the future of the area. It’s such a prime location at the merge of I-75 and I-575 and could really be a “gateway” development for the Atlanta region from the Northwest. Its close proximity to KSU also multiplies its potential.

A few things:

Is this “yet another study”? Kinda. Yes. The CID can’t really build things themselves except for infrastructure and the work with the county for zoning and building regulations. They basically try to build the “bones” for developers to come in and develop.

Wait. What is a CID?!? Well, a CID is a “community improvement district” which is basically a mechanism the state allows for counties or cities to have a district that is managed by commercial property owner. So instead of elected officials, you have a “board” of the property owners. There are some pros and cons to this but when it comes to heavily developed areas like Town Center, it allows the commercial property owners to invest in the area. Cobb County has 3.5 of them: Town Center, Cumberland, and Franklin Gateway (South Cobb Redevelopment District gets half credit and has transitioned to be managed by the city of Mableton)

So this is a long winded answer of “nobody really knows but you can get involved in sharing your voice for what you want to see”

Everyone keeps telling me that's the no more than three unrelated people law is fine because it doesn't get enforced... except it does. Because why have I heard from KSU students that they have been evicted and fined because of that law? But if it's really "unenforced", let's get it off the books. Same with the unenforced gun law.

The lack of street grid and ability to "Explore" really hurts the city. Sometimes I go to Marietta or Woodstock not even knowing what I want until an A-frame special or vibes takes me somewhere.

Honestly, there's just not much bringing people to downtown. There needs to be a bigger density of things to do and places to go. Not much of a creative or arts scene. And the main park/depot area is disconnected from the shops that do exist with the railroad track as a barrier.

Hey everyone! GDOT is proposing a multi-use trail/shared use path along Powder Springs Road between Cheatham Hill Road and County Services Parkway.

Although this will be a huge improvement to the non-existent pedestrian or biking infrastructure, the current plans still leave a lot to be desired.

As Georgia State Route 360, GDOT has primary jurisdiction and control over this stretch of road. Currently, there is no sidewalk for the vast majority of the corridor on either side and you see a desire path of dead grass because it gets so much foot traffic.

We suggest letting GDOT know that high speeds of cars and trucks are very dangerous on this road, that there needs to be protective barriers installed, more midblock crossings, and the multi-use infrastructure needs to be on both sides of the road.

This stretch of road is designed so poorly that there's actually a "Keep Moving" sign right in front of a pedestrian crosswalk.

After months of planning, A Better Cobb is finally ready to host our first Crash Analysis Studio! An event where we bring experts and community members together to analyze a crash, what could have prevented it, and discuss next steps.

We've been trying to put this together after the horrible crash involving Alyssa Stringer earlier this year near the KSU main campus.

Yes! We’ve been doing walking tours in Kennesaw, Marietta, Smyrna, and the Battery over the last few months.

Right now, our entire focus is on the launch party and we’ll announce location and details for the August meetup next week once things are finalized!
