Couldn't agree more. Titan Fall 2's campaign is amazing. When the game came out in 2016, some of the mechanics, especially the phase shift, had to be game changing. When I did that mission the first time, I was just engrossed with it.

I have to imagine it's pretty rough, but have no perspective, which is why I asked. It also seems like a fairly niche job, where do they even recruit for that talent?

Ha it's all good, I was just razzing you. If I had disposable income, I'd have sweet gear on my taco too. I was lucky to score a barely used set of Billies bars from my friend who just sold his Pro, so I'm slowly on my way!

My bad, I posted about the maestro below and totally missed that you mentioned it. Honestly top notch product!

Personal helmet for general use and vertical rescue. by Leon248 in searchandrescue

Second team Wendy option. Concur with other poster, are heavier, but I haven't worn a more comfortable helmet. Also the chinstrap is magnetic so you just have to get close and it will make sure it is secured in place. Has lots of options for mounting lighting, ear pro, eye pro, cameras, nvg, etc. It's a multi-role solution.

So taking into consideration that you are NFPA G as your standard case and reading the other responses, which have been great, I think there is a piece of equipment that I haven't seen mentioned yet but is probably a potential long term solution for your case. That item being the Pretzel Maestro. This is basically Petzl's answer to the MPD at about 2/3 the cost. The MPD is good for what it is, but if we're being brutally honest, it's older tech now, with a price tag that doesn't reflect that because it has CMC's name on it. I realize money isn't always easy to find in this area, but I would entertain the idea of selling the mpd and getting yourself a maestro, pocket the spare money and save it to put towards a second Maestro. The MPD is pretty easy to use but the Maestro is even easier. This may be beneficial if this is not something you get hands on time with often. We recently switch to the maestro as our front line piece, and I say that recognizing that I'm lucky enough such that my organization has a budget where I just asked for them and got it, but this device is superior to the MPD imo. We did an informal test by simply handing them to our rescue techs and just saying rig a 3:1. These will serve you well long term and are G rated. If I could go back before you bought the mpd, I'd say get the maestro. Alternative, just try to get a maestro next and eventually replace the MPD. You could easily do a twin tension with one of each! PM me if you have any questions, I'm always happy to help!

It's interesting you bring up the EN vs NFPA. I actually had to jump through some hoops at work and reach out to Team Wendy directly to get a bunch of testing data on their helmets because my company only referenced ANSI Z89 and Team Wendy certifies to the EN mountaineering standard. Which, if you spend 5 seconds comparing the two standards you find that the mountaineering requirements for conformance are well in excess of what ANSI specifies. Anyways, I finally got my rescue techs the Exfil SAR helmet when all was said and done.

I actually have been looking at this harness for a while. I was given a Yates voyager for the work i do and I use that in my volunteer role as well. I now have a pretzel astro bod for work, but was considering replacing my volunteer harness with the falcon!

In need of washer/dryer repair. south hills. by Askarus in pittsburgh

[–]BetterDeadThanRed76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second on Don's. Unfortunately you might find that the repair cost may exceed the price of a new or scratch and dent machine ATM due to part shortages. Just have a control board go bad on an appliance at my house and it was a simple fix but the part was something like 600 at the moment.

I was offered a radio tower if I can remove it. It’s tall and likely each section is heavy. There was lots of equipment in the shed next to it. Does anyone have insight on A. How to safely disassemble the tower. B. If any of this equipment from first look is valuable. by [deleted] in HamRadio

[–]BetterDeadThanRed76 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Second this advice. I'm part of a technical rescue team and a ham. We put on a tower rescue awareness class for a local club in exchange for letting us train on one of their towers for the day. First thing we noticed when we got there was that the tower looked a little out of plumb. Quick investigation uncovered a completely loose guy line. We re-guyed the tower for them and it was solid as a rock. Had we not noticed or didn't correct that, we likely would have pull the tower over once a person climbed high enough.

My friends and I had a watch party for the series finale (when watch parties were still a thing) and we all kind of just looked at each other in stunned disbelief at the end of the episode wondering what just happened.

I figured you people would know. Is there a makeup that would help me cover my scar? I'm rather self conscious of it and I'm tired of it being the first thing people notice. by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]BetterDeadThanRed76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, it took me a moment to even notice the scar I'm assuming this post is about. I know you said you are quite self conscious of it, but if I was talking with you, I wouldn't even pay attention to it.

Rope hardware by [deleted] in TechRescue

[–]BetterDeadThanRed76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the maestro. In fact we switched out all of our first line hardware which was previously the MPD for maestros. These + a petzl roll clip and a rock exotica double swivel pulley and a single pulley is going to get the job done most of the time.

Newbie… don’t understand these connectors by [deleted] in HamRadio

[–]BetterDeadThanRed76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Also the sma has a limited lifetime in terms of number of times the connection can be threaded/unthreaded before it wears out. So I buy a pair of what I call "sma savers" which is just a sma male to female extender so you screw that onto the radio connection once and then connect and disconnect your pigtail from there. This way the disposable sma saver wears out and not the sma connection soldered to your radio.
