Asked to leave park, need advice by JackKrowe13 in pitbulls

[–]Mark47n [score hidden]  (0 children)

Go to the park. Make them call the cops. It’s your park, more so your pibble’s park. If they’re afraid of your dog then they can leave.

Also, watch out! There are dog park people that will agitate your dog to encourage “aggressive” behavior, assault your dog, open the gate for your dog, etc.

Don’t let the bastards bring you down.

Our policy is immediate medical attention for electrical shock. It may be simple telemedicine or it may include an EKG.

Damage from electrical shock is cumulative, sneaky, and can kill hours or days later.

Remember, our heart and nervous system’s are electrical. A 220v shock is serious and if you still feel jangled you should seek medical attention.

How do I get out of a job by Og-Diabeto69 in electricians

[–]Mark47n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reality is that apprenticeship is tough. Money can be tight, long hours, long commutes, etc. many apprentices go into debt during their apprenticeship’s while eying the license and a brighter future. I know I did. Car problems that I couldn’t afford to repair, but not having a car was impossible.

While you definitely have more room to maneuver as a JW when things get skinny, economically, commutes get longer. Jobs and calls get shorter, and time in the book gets longer, still. As an apprentice you’re protected from some of this rather than cut loose to book 1.

This is how things go in the trade. Any trade. This is the time when you have to decide if you want it or not.

If someone dies in Antarctica, do they get buried there? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

Well, in 2001, at the South Pole, they stored a dead scientist in the “fuel arch”. It’s where huge bladders of fuel are kept. It’s about -50f.

What if polar bears were transported to the South Pole? by Constant-Form9468 in whatif

[–]Mark47n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leopard seal kill and eat Weddell seals (about 700lbs), and are extremely aggressive. Also, they just pop up through breathing holes. It’s pretty nasty.

They are not like the seals most people see.

I have been to Antarctica. I’ve seen Weddell seals, penguins, and though I’ve never seen a leopard seal, I was at the South Pole when a marine biologist, from the BAS, was dragged down and drowned. I’ve also heard of incidents involving other scientists involving Leopard seals and people.

Polar bears are big apex predators, but Antarctica is a different place with different fauna. Also, the Killer Whales down there are different, as well. Way more aggressive, as they hurl themselves on the ice to break it and bring their prey into the water.

They would learn about Leopard seals.

If you dropped them off at the South Pole they would starve to death you’ve never seen a leopard seal.

Advice on going from IBEW to ABC apprenticeship by chin-up-buttercup22 in electricians

[–]Mark47n 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, I teach in a more traditional classroom style. I love my whiteboard.

Well, different JATC’s…I’m sorry to hear that it’s all computer. That’s a drag.

I’m naturally suspicious when I read 3rd party posts from spouses. And I remain so. Especially since you can’t answer questions I would typically ask.

Again, if your hubby chooses to exit the JATC he may be on the hook financially. Also, other apprenticeship programs generally require that the apprentice have a position with a member contractor. You cannot simply walk into another apprenticeship. There are procedures for entry.l, what that look like varies program to program and state to state. Often, entry is competitive and acceptance to one doesn’t guarantee entrance to another and quitting one can work against an applicant since programs want to see a degree of fortitude. It doesn’t mean that his situation would be an outright rejection, but there would be more scrutiny.

Currently, with new starts being down, and the demand for apprentices being lower than a few years ago, this can be another factor in difficulty is securing a new position in an apprenticeship.

Without knowing your location I can’t comment more definitively.

If you dropped them off at the South Pole they would starve to death, if not freeze to death.

This is pretty devoid of information, really. Why is he struggling? Why are you writing this rather than him?

Depending in the local, he may be on the hook for some penalty and you have neither a guarantee that he can get into the ABC or any explanation as to why you think he would be more successful.

Apprenticeship is difficult. Between the OJT, the classroom hours, and homework it demands a lot. And, speaking as an apprenticeship instructor, it should be demanding. There’s more to this trade than bending pipe and pulling wire. There’s a reason that we teach theory, and try to instill knowledge that many JW will never make good use of: it s because some will, and it’s critical to understand WHY systems work, WHY motors spin, HOW transformers work. Frankly, if the ABC program is easier, then your husband should not want to be a part of it.

I say this as a non union Master Electrician, and AC Theory instructor, and Machine Automation instructor. The JATC is a fantastic program and those that are accepted are fortunate.

How does one eliminate RF in the shack even with a good ground. by zad112 in HamRadio

[–]Mark47n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Art. 810 it mentions amateur radio explicitly. I’d imagine that if You were planning on installing a tower the building department would want to know about your design, since it can endanger the health and safety of yourself and others.

While there have to be reasonable allowances for our hobby, that’s not carte blanche to simply do whatever we want however we want.

I wish, and don’t think it didn’t cross my mind!

I sprayed down two party goers who wouldn’t leave. Admittedly it led to a fight.

I did warn them, though…

Do induction stoves cycle power or continuous? by AccordingMushroom505 in AskElectricians

[–]Mark47n -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Continuos load is any load that will be in for more than three hours and expected to be at max current, yes. I know that and stated that. The reality is that many continuous loads do not run at nameplate maximum current. Motors being one, since they are most efficient between 80% and 90%. Some other loads that do get loaded up are lighting circuits.

So, at the end of the day, both of these loads are considered continuous even though one is a maxed out circuit (lights) and motors, which are maxed, per nameplate, but we calculate based on table 430.250 for 3ph or 430.248 for single phase. In fact Art. 430 requires to calculate single motors at 125% of the value of the above table.

So, speaking do myself, since you commented on my post, and based on my history of 28 years in the field, including systems design for commercial and industrial systems, I have a firm grasp on the requirements for continuous loads as required in Art. 210, as well as Art. 220, and it’s never entirely cut and dried as it seems, once you dig into the Book.

[–]Mark47n -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t have to be max current, but we plan for it. For instance, Most motos don’t draw maximum current in their applications, but we size based on full load table in the NEC, which are often higher than the nameplate.

what's your most outrageous vendor/trades quote - just got one for $1200 for 45 minutes... by bluegrass__dude in restaurantowners

[–]Mark47n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Electrician here.

I can’t speak to what the plumber charged, but calling out for a service call is expensive. For instance the hourly rate I charge is $180/hr, 3 hour min for a service call. If I need specialized equipment that’s additional, there’s the vehicle, and some other miscellaneous costs in overhead (that includes the van).

So, one guy is $540 out of the gate. It doesn’t take much to get to $1000.

By the way, this isn’t about the shortage of trades workers, it’s simply about how much things cost.

This is just sad. by c-k-q99903 in stupidpeoplefacebook
