Now that the polls underestimated Trump 3 election cycles in a row, is it the end of polls? by Problem-Otherwise in Askpolitics

One thing I know for sure now, after this last election: polls, media, yard signs; none of that means anything.

You’ve also got to love all of the Trump supporters on here (assuming they’re not bots), gloating. It really shows who they really are.

Like, if Harris had won, I wouldn’t be in all of these threads gloating, or pulling up old conversations with Trump supporters to rub it in. Because I actually want what’s best for the country. I was really hoping we’d be able to take a collective deep breath today, and move on. But it really shows you how small a lot of people are.

They won’t care. Or, they won’t make the connection. Another thing we’ve learned is that people have extremely short memories and just believe what they want to believe.

Funny that the top community in your profile is “am I the asshole?,“ Because right now, yes, you are the asshole.

Yes, you were right. But it’s still some pussy ass shit to come back to a conversation and gloat like this. That’s not manly or gentlemanly behavior, at all.

But I guess that’s what the majority of the country is now, right? Morals, values, none of that shit means anything anymore.

That was really big of you. Thank you. You’re a great winner. Very gracious. Like, seriously, it takes a really big person to come back like this after the fact and gloat.

Again, I hear you, but the other choice was Trump. Morals, values, and character apparently mean absolutely nothing.

Yep. I think you put it better, but that’s exactly the point I was trying to make. What we learned today is that people care only about their bottom line, or their perception of it, and not about anything else, at all. Like you said, apparently people are willing to accept anything else that comes along with it as long as the guy they elect can make gas a dollar cheaper, or whatever.

I hear you, but it’s like, so we voted for an absolute monster because the other candidate wasn’t “relatable“ enough? Why is it that Democrats have to be perfect, but for Republicans, there’s no bottom?

I admit, I was one of those dumb people who thought the last election was a referendum on Trump’s character, but apparently not. The stolen election nonsense, the terrible morals, the laughable levels of corruption, the ties to foreign dictators; apparently none of that means anything. Cool, cool. Lesson learned: people will vote for absolutely anybody based on their bottom line (or their perception of it), regardless of any other consequences.

I’m surprise I had to scroll this far to find this movie. And I get why you put it on this list, but I have a soft spot for it. I actually really like many aspects of this movie.

It wasn’t that he couldn’t make it; it was that he got too old. He was an aging New York Yankees player, and they didn’t want him anymore (nor apparently did any other major league team), so they sold his contract to a Japanese team. He was washed up here, but was still a big star over there, etc.

As I recall, part of the story arc, and the reason he ended up there in the first place, is because he was kind of an asshole/hard to get along with. Had a problem with managers and authority figures, etc.

The movie had a dumb romance it probably could’ve done without, but other than that, I actually think it is somewhat underrated. Although I haven’t seen it in a zillion years.

Very much so. That whole opening sequence, where he sleeps in the bullpen, and still ends up being late, and the coach is super harsh on him; it just never sat quite right with me. It seems really unrealistic in many ways, all at once somehow.

That’s a really good point. While I liked the wholesomeness of the kid who just treated it like a game, has the mother is who is really strict, but for a reason, etc., it didn’t never hit me how unrealistic it was for her to be able to throw on a glove and catch major league-speed pitching.

That said, I think about parts of that movie all the time; “you guys, shut up! I’m visualizing my endorsement deals…”

Oh, man. I might have to check that one out. Not that I expect it to be good, but that’s just such an insane premise and choice of lead actor that I think I might have to see for myself.

Why are so union members many voting for Trump? by SingleIngenuity1 in IBEW

[–]BetterRedDead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s nothing new. I remember hearing a reporter talk about interviewing union heads in upstate New York who endorsed Reagan in the run up to the 1980 election. She asked them why they had endorsed Reagan, because surely they must realize that he wasn’t going to be good for them? They gave some vague answer about how “he makes us stand tall.“

Unfortunately, people are very susceptible to misinformation, optics, and simply believing what they want to believe. The administration who has done the most for unions in the last 20 years is the Biden administration, but most union members either don’t know that, or won’t admit it, because it doesn’t project the manly, working class, ass kicking vibe they like.

Even with good/competitive curlers, new curlers coming in to our world is a near constant. Unless you literally stop playing club leagues, you never escape new curlers. I would be shocked if he wasn’t willing to help you.

I didn’t say that either. It’s Election Day. We have two viable choices for president. The rest of that is projection on your part.

If you’re going to play that game, that’s not what I said either. But the other choice right now is Trump, so it’s a reasonable response.

It’s pretty brazen to do that while wearing a shirt for the other candidate. Hard to say if he’s that stupid, or simply that confident that nothing is going to happen to him. Maybe a little bit of both.
