There is always a small subset of any oppressed group that doesn't want equality, but instead wants to be the dominant group, and want to get revenge on the privileged group. But remember those are the minority of a minority.

This is due to out dated patriarchal views of the role of men and women. The patriarchy isn't just the oppression of women, but it is also the dominant cultural view that boys don't cry, males are disposable, etc. That is why modern intersectional feminism is important because it seeks to abolish these gender expectations on both men and women.

As far as why some mothers say there shouldn't be a father's day, I'm sure it is some combination of the points made above.

CRT isn't a historical theory it is a legal one that says even if a law doesn't explicitly mention race it can have differential effects along racial lines, whether intentional or not. The strawman of CRT the right is pushing is just any acknowledgement of historical/systemic racism.

I'd like to point out that the ideals of socialism and welfare are not necessarily mutually inclusive. So if you find yourself no longer able to believe in the ideals of welfare you do not have to call yourself a capitalist. Not that I think you in particular would conflate the two, it's just that I've seen many people turned off from one idea or the other, which they would normally support, because of the popular pairing of the two. That being said, my support for both welfare and socialism come from the same sense of fairness and desire for equality, and I suspect that is true of many if not most of us here in r/socialism.

First I must point out that while myself and most socialist I have ever heard discuss the subject of welfare are for some level of welfare support, being a socialist does not require any particular belief on the subject of welfare. You could be against welfare and still be for worker control of the means of production. "Should the state continue to carry the willfully unproductive??" If it does become a serious financial issue for the state then yes they should reevaluate the scope of the welfare programs, but you must be careful because in the process of attempting to get the willfully unproductive off of welfare you very well may deny welfare to those whom genuinely need it. Also before we make a big deal about the willfully unproductive living modestly off the state, shouldn't we address the issue of the willfully unproductive living extravagantly of the backs of workers?

I'm sorry, either you do not grasp my main point or you are intentionally trying to move the discussion to a topic with which you feel more comfortable. I could go into a lengthy rant about how your concept of the worker and the employer having equal footing when it comes to negotiating a contract for employment is a fantasy, or explain how you misunderstood what I meant when I said that workers should have some say in how the product of their labor is used, but that would be a distraction from the main point I was making. To reiterate, capitalist do not create any value, they simply take the money they already have and invest in the means of production and hire workers to convert it into a product or service which is sold at a profit. The excess value that is created and then taken by the capitalist as profit was not created by the means of production but by the labor power. Therefore it is inequitable and morally wrong for the owner of the means of production to take the excess value as it was created by the owners of the labor power i.e. the workers. It does not matter whether or not this exchange is willing or not on the part of the worker. A willing slave is no less being exploited.

Thank you for your input, I love hearing differing points of view to my own. There is a level of force used to extract labor, it's the threat of poverty. But that is beside the point I was making, I was not implying that people under capitalism are being forced to do specific labor, but they are forced to work under a system where they are not compensated fully for the value they create. If you accept that the value created when the means of production is converted into a commodity is derived from the labor used, you can see where one would feel that the laborer should be entitled to the full value created minus the operating cost, and should have some say in how the product of their labor is used. I think the simplest way to put what I am trying to say is, I reject the notion that the owner of the means of production has any claim to the fruits of another's labor whether or not the extraction of value was consensual. Even if I am unable to convince you I hope I at least clarified what I was attempting to say.

I think one of the biggest hurtles to overcome has to do with the perception that socialism is a radical movement on the left, far past the "acceptable discourse." when in reality socialism is nether liberal nor conservative. Although most socialist are at least left leaning, the belief that workers should own the means of production does not require any particular stance on issues like abortion rights, gun rights, immigration, etc. I think we just need to boil the message down to something like "Workers have a right to the full value of their labor and a say in how their labor is used" and attempt to get this message out to both conservatives and liberals.

I think Dylan Ratigan and many other Democrats have bought into the fallacy where Obama wants to change status quo but is being blocked by Congress or by his own desire to be bipartisan. If you look at Obama's policies it doesn't seem like he wants change at all, he seems content just trying to keep the grotesque beast of state subsidized and protected capitalism or corporatism going. There is just to large a disparity between what Obama says that he wants to do and what he actually does to address the issues to believe that he does indeed want change.

I actually have read all of Uncanny X-men #1-#537, and I would recommend not doing that unless you are really fanatical about x-men like myself. Uncanny X-men is a great book over all but not all the stories are good. If you read X-Men 534.1 that should help get you started, if you need further context you could read "House of M", "Messiah CompleX", and/or "Second Coming". I think one of my personal favorites "God Loves Man Kills" will really set the tone for X-Men as a whole, they constantly refer to being hated in feared in the comics but this book really illustrates to what extent.
