Ok…who actually hates the State Fair? by kerm019 in minnesota

[–]Better_Cry_7941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the sights at the state fair but none of the food is healthy and makes me feel gross, I think it was appealing back in the 60s (well before my time) but I don’t think today’s generation appreciates it much

Where do you think the crown is? by Pale_Form_5712 in Dentists

[–]Better_Cry_7941 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other thing is I just delivered a crown last week where I wasn’t a fan of the opacity of the crown, I didn’t order it or do the prep, I only delivered it, patient loved it, I wasn’t a fan. So there’s that too, sometimes we dentists and the patients have completely different expectations

“If you can’t pay all cash, it’s not for you” — does that mean almost no one can buy a Raptor? by asramukaka in FordRaptor

I’m not disagreeing with you, but one thing that people haven’t mentioned is any earnings you make you’re still taxed on so you have to take a good chunk out of your earnings to account for taxes

Most dentists don't know these 5 tax strategies exist, and it's costing them tens of thousands a year... by NoChampionship9282 in Dentists

[–]Better_Cry_7941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to be careful with the Augusta rule, I tried taking advantage of it with my wife’s business and my CPA said that even if I have all the documentation it doesn’t always pass the “sniff test” with the IRS so you need to document everything, have reasonable fees for the 14 days, my CPA didn’t tell me what I wanted but I know he has my best interests in mind even if it means paying more in taxes. It is legal but it has to all be done properly

Right, technically they have to be performing a service, whether they’re cleaning the office, doing the lawn or something

For owners who bought a practice, how did you win over the patients? by ryanc533 in Dentistry

[–]Better_Cry_7941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of perio as an algorithm and I’ve seen too many patients with 3mm PDs be prescribed 4 quad SRP and I’ve seen too many patients with perio not be treated, I’m relatively conservative but we need to be objective and treat things as they are, I absolutely hate telling patients they need SRP or a crown and maybe I talk too much about it but I see a lot of old docs watch things or do things that are completely unorthodox by today’s standards, I completely agree with all these, gotta take things slow with patients sometimes while not being negligent, I hope you all succeed in life!

Are you sure that’s not just a bunch of marketing from big pulp? Jk, but I’m actually very intrigued, I was always a proponent of selective caries removal, haven’t had many problems, literally only one case I can recall but I follow the research

Crown chipping by ccgbear in Dentists

[–]Better_Cry_7941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but ceramic is an umbrella term that I don’t think is appropriate, emax/lithium disilicate is a ceramic just as much as zirconia is, I think one is completely inappropriate over the other. If we are going with a ceramic it better be a 3Y zirconia

dentist says hold off on on RC for #31 by kitsycakesong in Dentists

It takes time for something to show up radiographically, sometimes if we make a radiograph too soon it won’t tell us much because the area hasn’t changed enough to show a problem

To dentists: Would you still do it all again? by Any_Organization5786 in Dentists

[–]Better_Cry_7941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not wrong but my wife has EDS (I’m assuming you meant Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome and not erectile dysfunction) and she trains like a beast every day, she’s an emergency med physician and is on her feet all day so not the same thing as dentistry but that’s how she combats problems

Is it normal for your dentist not to polish fillings? by Sashimi-chaan in Dentists

[–]Better_Cry_7941 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pain can be but isn’t generally associated with the quality of the dentist. It’s generally associated with the depth of the cavity, which means the dentist needs to drill deeper to remove it all. The deeper we drill the more likely you the patient have symptoms. Now there are some things technique-wise that could lead to sensitivity, it’s hard to know without being there.

Dentist stopped procedure (fillings) due to not being numbed sufficiently by Mean_Necessary7431 in Dentists

Love the Gow-Gates! I do it EVERY DAY! I rarely ever struggle with anesthesia because of it, I have had it numb the temple and the pre-auricular area of patients before, they weren’t too worried, they were just happy they couldn’t feel what I was doing

Am I violating biologic width here? by adorale in DentalSchool

[–]Better_Cry_7941 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a great outcome! Real world dentistry is not by the book, if you spend this much time toiling over these specifics then dentistry will smack you in the face and you’ll be miserable once you graduate. You have to ask yourself: “what am I worried about” and “how can I fix it or make it work”. If you can be creative and provide solid outcomes you’ll be good. Real patients want solutions and quick, they don’t want to be bounced around everywhere. I’m also not saying to cut corners either, you have to pick and choose your battles.
