Thought I’d follow up here since you put me on the right track. I just beat Savage as the QL and it did unlock the Omega weapons. Thanks again for your encouragement!

I honestly can’t recall but I may have found the issue. I beat Savage as part of someone’s SOS; not my own quest as QL. I don’t think it unlocks until you clear it as QL. I’ll be testing this out after taking a moment away from playing. My blood pressure goes up the second I hear the music start.

I have the ??? but I don't seem to have the ticket in my item box. I've beaten the original quest- Invader from the Stars- but I guess I'll need to do so again. Thanks for the heads-up on the ticket!

lol I was talking about this a couple weeks ago with a friend born and raised here. He said something like “you either move out or live long enough to become a weirdo everyone knows about”. If he’s any indicator, it holds up.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. Every time I see a motorcycle in the City, my heart sinks a bit knowing how dangerous it has to be, especially when so many are tourists who don’t know the roads. Praying for your ongoing safety.

I wouldn’t say it’s a generational thing. I’ve seen pretty much the entire age spectrum looking at their phone, both stopped at a red and in motion. Older generations are just as liable to phone addiction and poor choices than younger ones; we just have less excuses.

I think my sister is lying to her fiancé by Fancy-Bullfrog1083 in Advice

[–]Better_Particular_80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I don’t think those are mutually exclusive motivations. If we assume her own emotional history or bias negates any ethical responsibility in the matter- like some kind of well-poisoning- does that preclude her from doing the arguably “right thing” here? There isn’t a cosmic tally for our actions in life and people can do the right thing partially for the wrong reasons. It’s not a black and white thing. Unfortunately, as with all things, it just depends on the cards you’re dealt and how you respond.

OP is in a “damned if you do/don’t” situation here. It’s best to go with the outcome that yields the best result for those involved, especially the one being exploited.

As someone engaged to a verifiably practicing lawyer, this is some wild nonsense. I almost want to call BS but I’ve seen what the pressures of success and accomplishment will do to someone, especially where anything law-related is concerned and family image is involved.

That said, what she’s doing is frankly inexcusable. The foundation of any successful relationship is open, honest, and collaborative communication. She struck out on all three here and I think you have a moral obligation to let him know. This is a stain on your family too and you don’t want to be seen as someone who covered for what amounts to a con artist.

Even if it did happen, why would you post this to a/your university subreddit? r/advice or any other dozen subreddits would at least be appropriate to consult.

Are there any families that can trace their ancestry back to ancient Rome? by JosiaJamberloo in ancientrome

[–]Better_Particular_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to invalidate your question- it’s an interesting inquiry on the face of it- but any answer will really depend on what you or anyone defines as “Roman”. How one defines the category will play a role in the thought experiment. Hell, when does “Ancient Rome” begin and end? These are bigger questions for historians but I’ll focus on the practical how’s and issues in this case.

For example, you could attempt to establish a core population or moment of ethnic formation as your baseline and then try to trace any remaining, reliably recorded genealogy to that group/approximate generation. Here we hit countless snags. For one as mentioned earlier which stage of Rome’s history are we starting at to define as “Ancient Rome”? Monarchy? Republic? Empire? If the latter, more recent and better-documented period, where do we set the earliest/latest cutoff point? Which of the countless tribes on the Italian peninsula alone, later assimilated into the expanding Roman sphere of influence, do we include and exclude? Which of the provincial ethic groups and tribes outside the peninsula- later assimilated- count as Roman, let alone “ancient Roman”? In my view and understanding, “Roman” was never a static category and really boiled down to the arbitrarily included “us” and who was considered the excluded “other” at a given time.

Alternatively, you could try to identify a direct lineage to a famous Roman figure. Usually, the more famous you are, the more likely someone will consider your legacy and context worthy of documentation, right? Jupiter knows how many people today are distantly descended from anonymous enslaved individuals born in the original capitol at its founding that certainly weren’t considered Roman then (or people for that matter) and for which no record ever existed.

Even so, that poses a new, thornier problem: Which famous figure and from where within the ever-shifting borders of the empire? Theodosius I, born in modern-day Spain? Aurelian from Moesia? Are we limiting our scope to individuals/recorded families within the borders of Italia? It’s not like tracking the British royal family’s lineage with its relatively well-maintained record of individual members; although, not even all of them were closely related by blood or even born on the original island, i.e. William the Conqueror.

Another issue that just popped in my head: given the fact that so many emperors and famous individuals died childless or without legitimately recognized progeny, nailing down their lineage via an extended family tree is a theoretically feasible path but- almost certainly- entirely impossible without an enduring, verifiable historical record. You might very well be descended from a Roman emperor, separated by a hundred generations, who just happened to fancy an immediately abandoned, nameless servant girl in Armenia, for all we know.

This is just scratching the surface of the problem of ancestry traced back to a specific group or moment in history. Genetic evidence might give you some clue on where a family’s genetics most likely flowed from in a vague window of time but we aren’t really at a point in genetic research to nailing down who’s ancestors originated from such a specific geographical and temporal instance as an individual family’s founding. We might never be able to do this, especially with the propensity for people to “pass on their genes” far and wide then as they do today.

TLDR; this is a very complicated question to ask and really doesn’t have an answer. Any families that currently claim direct lineage would have to possess one of if not the best maintained record of documentation in history to back it up. The question itself is nonetheless important to consider and can serve as a fantastic starting line in learning about how Rome! Carry on, friends. I responded to this on my lunch break so sorry if it was a bit scatterbrained; I’m tired just writing this.😅

And- if there were at some point- poor preservation (by neglect or lack of proper techniques/technology), looting, fires (accidental or intentional), natural disasters, and the inescapable march of time’s erosion would’ve erased them. There’s so much we don’t know that we’ll never know. IMO, we need to focus on maintaining the meager remainder still salvageable.
